Guns n’ Rexes

Chapter 9: On The Backs Of Wolves

We hadn’t ever been up north before. Had to find some woolly clothes too, ‘cause it’s cold as Everest up that way. It was a tundra- snow, ice… Mammoths, wolves, pigs, sabers. Just like the ice age. And that’s where we saw these massive, steel-walled forts guarded by turrets and advanced tribes. Judgin’ by all their guns, we didn’t go that way. Instead we braved the ice.

Little bit before we set off, while me and Jesse were gettin’ drunk at the bar, Chris was in the gun shop again buyin’ some rifles. He forged ‘em together to make some kinda 6-burst gun that he strapped to the back of his feathery raptor (which he called Streamline, since it was blue with some black) and added what looked like a second seat to his saddle to man this gun. After that we decided to see if anyone had anything of value up north.

It started with a distant howl, then some more howls and before we knew it a pack of wolves, with 2 riders leading them, were chasin’ us like cats and mice. They started firin’ on us, so we tried to outrun ‘em. They got a good shot on Winchester, so Chris pulled Jesse onto his back as Winchester fell to the ground.

“The gun!” Chris shouted. “Pull the trigger, the side to reload!” Jesse moved the gun from side to side, then took aim at the wolves and started gunnin’ ‘em down. •Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch• As Jesse fired, then •Click• As he reloaded. We Darted through Caves, under arches and through snow-coated forests with the constant sound of gunfire. Then we approached a steep cliff, and instead of turning away like I was tryin’ to steer him to, Reaper sped up, chargin’ the wall.

“Reaper… You better have a good plan.” I warned him. He sped up, then leaped through the air and swiftly climbed up the cliff lile it was nothin’. The wolves chased Chris and Jesse ‘round the corner, and Reaper jumped off the side to flank ‘em. I pulled out my pistol and began to shoot the wolves at the back,

causin’ the pack leaders to split up. I chased the one that broke away from the main pursuit, loopin’ round trees and rocks until I finally had them cornered. They dashed round the corner to see Chris and Jesse with their half of the pack headed straight for ‘em, so they stopped and I put a gun to their head. Chris spun round, puttin’ his gun to the other leader’s head. With his hands raised, the man at the end of Chris’ gun said

“No need for bloodshed.”

“Bloodshed?” Replied Jesse, anger in his heart. “Ya shot ma darn horse and now ya tell ma that there ain’t no need for bloodshed!?” The girl who I had cornered pulled down her mask and said:

“Look- we didn’t know it was you.”

“Whaddo ya mean? We don’t know ya missy.”

“We didn’t know it was the Crimson Demon.” Now it made sense. I pushed my gun deeper into her neck. She winced. “Look! We’ll make it up to you!” She shouted, frightened. “Why don’t we give you a wolf?” She pleaded. Chris decided to break the tension.

“How about you join us?” I liked the idea.

“That could work.” I said.

“Join us!? Have ya lost ya darn minds!? They shot Winchester!” Jesse wasn’t havin’ it. I gave Chris a look and he nodded- we needed to convince Jesse this was gonna work out.

“Jesse- how else are they going to make it up to you? Besides, then we have a wolf army.” He was about to begin shoutin’ but I cut in.

“Look at all their guns! We need that kinda weaponry.” Turns out all it took were guns. We welcomed them in, and that’s how we met Will and Faith.
