Live Or Die
Chapter 13: The King Of The Earth
It was pitch-black, a swallowing night but I still stalked my prey through the dark abyss that engulfed the place. For a predator as large and heavy as he was, Retribution was surprisingly quiet unless he wanted to be loud. I followed him right to his lair, where he checked his nest before laying down. He was out stone-cold, sleeping like a rock. I put away my tranq arrows and took out the narcotic itself, slowly edging up to Retribution’s open mouth where I poured it in. He began to stir, so I poured more in, and more and more and more before he woke up with a start. I grabbed the rest of the narcotic and ran. He roared, and set out after me and Dagger but he was disorientated from all I had fed him. He stumbled about, knocking down trees accidentally and with heavy footsteps slowly chased us. He looked drunk, so I turned round and fired more and more arrows into his front before he realised he needed a different tactic- run. He turned tail, and the hunted became the hunters. We pressed the offensive until finally, with an Earth-shattering thud, he fell unconcious. I slowly fed him all throughout the night, and by morning he was sat like there like a well-trained labrador. My eyes were as heavy as boulders but we made the joirney home safely.
“Oh my god.” Were the first words to come out of Ruby’s mouth. Harvey was stunned silent. I walked past them all, climbed up the ladder into our community dorm and fell asleep in my bed. The next day, Dasha (who was covered in bandages) stood over me with a surprised look on her face.
“Is this what you woke me up for?” She said, gesturing at Retribution’s nose sniffing the window. I barely got up but saw his black nose and red chin breathing all over the glass. I laughed, but fell back into bed. I was exhausted.
It felt like a Monday morning when I woke up, but Ruby was dragging my arm into her… What do you call it? Sewing place? Leathercraft? I’ll call it that. She dragged me into her leathercraft to show me an enormous saddle. I smiled, knowing darn well that I was about to learn how to ride Retribution. We took the saddle and walked it over to my Rex- when I hopped on the saddle, it was like having the power of God in my reins. I steered him one way, then the other, told him to bite an unsuspecting parasaur that he swallowed whole in one swift bite. It was magnificent, how he loomed over the rest of the world with such power and dominion. The king of the Earth.
Harvey had completed his armour designs, so now we had proper metal armour. It was durable, and Ruby added some insulation to protect us from the elements but it could get a bit warm or chilly depending on the weather. Then we realised that we didn’t have the numbers to defend our home, so we had to recruit. That’s when Dasha had the brilliant plan of making a bar and some shops to lure in travellers, tribesmen and others who could become allies or spill the beans on wherever Raphiel had his main fortress. Then we realised that if Jude snitched on our base and everything about us, Miranda could do the same about them. We just had to get her back.

Shadow Wranglers
Chapter 7(6 in morellatops, if you go to new to scorched earth, just go in order.)
"Heads up!" Shadow shouted as a Phoenix dived at frost. Shadow net gunned it and it fell to the ground. The flames burned through the net, scorching it. The net stayed intact though. "Fire proof nets, this isnt my first rodeo." Shadow said. "5 left." Frost replied. "I can see that." Shadow said while pointing north. The remaining 5 were scorching a town. "Well, see you there!" Shadow said as she melted into a shadow. At first it was just a circular shadow, then it morphed into a thyla shape. The shadow seemingly ran towards the town. Frost morphed into a bird and chased after Shadow. The suns rays shown through the clouds, causing the heat to rise. Shadow leapt from her shadow form onto a phoenix. "Ouch ouch ouch! Bad idea! Hot hot!" Shadow complained and she net gunned the phoenix. The other 4 saw what happened and charged towards frost and shadow. "Oh they're gettin smarter!" Frost exclaimed. Both pulled out their net guns and shot all 4 down. Shadow walked over and sent them to the shadow realm. "Next is rock elemental. Thatll be extra fun."

The Twisted Sands- Chapter 3
“This is a Wyvern.” 89 pointed to the dragons. “There are three types. Lightning, fire, and poison. Today you’re going to learn how to ride them.”
Slav hopped on a Poison Wyvern and flew it around. He landed and the Wyvern bit a wandering Paracer.
“That’s not even the best thing.” Kalo yelled.
“This is!” Jenny whispered to her lightning Wyvern, and it shot a massive bolt of lightning. Nox winced, painful memories of lightning coming back to him.
—————————
“The giga roared with fury. He let out a blast of lightning.
Wait... a blast of lightning??
“What are you doing? Kai found the man and held him at gunpoint.
“We are advancing science! Weaponizing our tames for more power!”
Titan roared and tried to claw out his lightning cannon implant.
“You’re hurting him!” Yelled Kai. He ran back into the battle, fumbling his armor on.
Nox distracted the Giga, who shot a furious lightning blast at the cage. It shattered, and Cutter leaped out, attacking the furious giga. The giga stomped on the ground, and bit down hard on something.
It was Roughtooth.
“No!!” Nox yelled, running towards his brother.
It was too late.
(P.S., this flashback is chapter 12 of The Swamp)
—————————
“Nox! Are you okay?” Cutter shook him awake. In the distance, Nox could make out Kai on his Fire Wyvern, Jenny on a Lightning Wyvern, and Slav on a Poison Wyvern.
“Yeah...I’m fine.” He threw up on the ground.
—————————
“This place isn’t very much of a ‘heaven.’” One of the soldiers said.
“Quiet!” Haphis replied.
“I’m just saying-“ the soldier had sealed his fate. Haphis picked up a cluster grenade.
The scream of a loyal soldier being killed by his commander didn’t faze anyone else. They slowly trekked across the badlands, looking for those stupid people who had tried to stop him.
The girl’s griffin! Haphis saw its corpse sprawled out over a flat rock, being slowly gnawed away by troodons.
“We must be getting close.” He snarled. “It’s finally time for my revenge.”
Twisted Sands- Chapter 9- The Final Chapter!
“Should we trust him?” Nox whispered to Cutter.
“No.” Cutter said. “We shouldn’t. I will kill him if anything goes wrong.”
Haphis entered the room.
“I need an army.” He growled.
“Do it yourself.”
Haphis held up a sword. He pointed it at Slav. He raised the sword.
—————————
“I can’t believe we’re taming Rexes for a madman.” Slav muttered. He rubbed the stump that was once his left arm.
“Shut it.” Haphis said. “Or your right arm will be gone as well.”
“There’s the obelisk.” Kai said. “Are we ready?”
“It’s time.”
—————————
The same old flash of light as they entered the boss arena. A giant Manticore flying down to meet them. The guardian of the desert was going to be a challenge. The next ark was going to be a challenge. What would the future hold-
Nox opened his eyes. He saw lots of weird mushroom trees. A glowing raptor. A hairless direwolf like animal. He closed his eyes.
Opening them again, he saw that they were in the heat of battle with the Manticore. Had Nox seen the future? He didn’t know. But he saw. He saw a blue Rex take one last bite. The manticore fell to the ground, dead. In an instant, Nox was lying on the ground again. Lying in the mushroom forest. Lying in the next ark.

The Twisted Sands- Chapter 7
The desert was hot and forbidding. Kai could no longer move. His Thyla moved for him.
Any water they found was too dangerous or dirty to drink. Many more cannibals like the man from before wandered out and tried to kill them. What the desert could do to a person was unforgettable.
“I see haphis’s base!” Cutter shrieked. He crawled through the sand until he came to a rock. It was a mirage.
“Cutter, get up.” Nox begged.
“Just let me die here, Nox...” he sighed. He fell asleep, and Nox began dragging him along.
—————————
“Forget about those stupid meddling people.” Haphis said to himself. “You’ll defeat the guardian and you’ll ascend.” He was walking alone in the dunes, off to the sunken city. The coliseum. The statue of the guardian. No, the statue of the Manticore.
Ten human skeletons were spread out across the coliseum. Haphis had seen more and more human bones the longer he stayed in the desert. Something big was going on. Something big was coming.
“I don’t care what’s happening.” Said Haphis.
“Fool!” He said back to himself. “We must prepare- AAAAUGH!!!” The warlord let out a corrupted cry of pain. The corruption on his body spread slightly. Huge black spikes grew on the parts of his back where the corruption was.
Haphis finally understood.
The beast that was coming was him.
The Twisted Sands- Not Quite Chapter 1 but this’ll help build the story- By Swamp Guy
“Nice work, 89.” “We’ve got the eggs, let’s head out.”
The guy named 89 just shrugged and hopped on his Megalania. They had gotten three fire wyvern eggs, two posion ones, and four lightning ones.
“My jerboa died this time. I’m not going back.”
“Relax, 89. Just stop bringing shoulder pets to the most dangerous place in the desert!”
“That was my best Jerboa. I almost lost him a million times. I’m not going back.”
Kalo slapped 89 in the face. “I’m a higher rank than you, you son of a-“
“Shut. Up.” 89 held up his hand. Let me say a few things.
“No! NO!” Kalo screamed.
“For starters, there’s an Alpha Wyvern behind us.”
Kalo screamed and ran off, leaving his Thyla for dead. 89 calmly assessed the situation. He took out a compound bow for the initial counterattack. Then, he went all in with his Megalania.
“See, Robber?” 89 said to his Megalania. “That’s where you get when you’re just patient.” He snickered. “I also took all the eggs out of Kalo’s bag.”
—————————
The next week, 89 had finished his base. No tribes, no friends, just turrets, tames, crops, and cool architecture. He hopped on his Fire Wyvern, Flamethrower. It was time to pay an old friend a visit.
Kalo was hunting Deathworms in the dunes, as he always did. 89 geared up in full desert cloth and rode Flamethrower out to the oasis dunes.
“Who are you?” Kalo asked when 89 landed next to him. Kalo was atop a raptor, and he had a Titanoboa clutched in its claws.
“It’s me.” 89 removed his hat.
“You...” Kalo growled. “You stole my Wyvern eggs.”
89 shrugged. “I’d like to recruit you to my new tribe.”
“Why should-“ Kalo started, but he wasn’t able to finish. A massive hole opened up in the sky from far away, and the two people in the dunes thought they could see something fall out of it.

Read the prologue and the sneak peek in Megapithecus before reading this ;)
The Thorny Dragons clustered around Nox. The other humans and kapros were unconscious. The griffin was dead.
“Wake up, strangers!” Quill slapped the girl’s face.
“Aaagh!” She woke up with a start. She saw the Thorny Dragons. “Aaaugh!”
“That’s...Jenny.” Nox moaned. “Hasn’t seen...whatever you are...before...”
“Flare! He...he’s dead!”
“What?” Kai lifted his head off the ground. Slav, Chiron, Pouncer, and Cutter were up in seconds.
“What’s going on?” Kai asked. “Where are we?”
“The Scorched Earth. The Desert.”
“You mean were on earth?” Slav asked excitedly.
“No, just another ARK.” Chiron mused. “We have to find a way out.”
“There is no was out.” Sandspike said. “This is just where we live.”
“There has to be some way out.” Jenny said. “We just fell from an island into a desert. There has to be an exit.”
“Well, we’re gonna have to find it.” Kai said with determination.
The Twisted Sands- Chapter 8
Haphis rappelled down into the trench. His Thyla had been scorched by one of the ugly bastard dragons, so he had to do it on foot.
He grabbed a lighting egg and signaled to Commander Reiken. He pulled Haphis up, just as Wyverns completely destroyed the spot Haphis had been two seconds ago.
“We have to get out. NOW!” Haphis commanded. They hopped out of the trench to see three Wyverns in front of them. They turned to run, but then they saw what was behind them.
Four Thylas and two Kapros.
—————————
“Haven’t seen you in a while...” Haphis grumbled.
“Well, we’re seeing you now.” Kai snarled at him. “And you’ve changed since the last time you attempted to kill us.”
Haphis looked back at the black spikes and the corruption that was taking over his whole body. He stood up.
“What do you want from me?”
“We want you to not be a problem for us. Whether that means that you’re dead, or just imprisoned, that’s what we want.”
“We also want to get off this ark.” Jenny noted.
“I can help you with that.” Haphis said. “I have the artifacts. It is time to ascend again.”
The Twisted Sands- Chapter 6
“We suspect that Haphis’s base is here, in the northern mountains near the trench.” Kalo pointed to a marked dot on his map. “We need to find and capture him.”
“We need faster mounts than Wyverns, thought.” Jenny said.
Two hours later, Kai and the others on Thylas were making their way across the desert. Two guards were with them. They came across a massive skeleton. Inside was another skeleton. A human skeleton.
They stopped short as a whistling sound spun through the air.
“Fresh meat...meat...” rasped a horrible voice. A thin, sunburned man stepped out from behind a rock. He held a shotgun. He wore cloth pants, but that was it. He smiled at them. An evil smile. He shot the guards and dragged their bodies away.
“Let’s. Get. Out.” Slav whispered. They ran away until they had put enough distance between them and the man. The northern mountains came into view ahead.
The Twisted Sands- Chapter 4
Haphis looked around. Where was he? He didn’t see his army anywhere. What he did see was a Deathworm coming out of the ground.
“Commander Haphis, wake up!” A soldier shook him. “There’s a group of people coming for our camp.”
Haphis looked out the window of the small Adobe base. Three Wyverns, two Thorny Dragons, three kapros-
Haphis didn’t have to count. He knew who these people were.
“We know you’re in here!” Chiron yelled.“Get out and face us!”
Haphis thought silently for a minute. He pressed a button.
Ten Rock Golems came running at them from out of nowhere. Hurling boulders, smashing everything. Kai yelled something before a Boulder knocked him off his Wyvern, but no one heard him.
—————————
Arciro jumped as the Defense Units appeared out of the darkness. He and his Parasaur were no match for the robots. He had nowhere to run.
Suddenly, spikes flew into the defense units. Hundreds of small spikes.
The shooters were frilled raptor things. Arciro had seen one before, on the edge of the Desert Dome.
“Where’s our thanks?!” One of the riders laughed. They all wore Tek armor, completely obscuring their faces.
“Uh...thanks.” Arciro said.
“I don’t trust these guys.” Whispered Sanko. Sanko was the HomoDeus, the ascended being in Arciro’s mind who had resurrected him on earth.
“Quiet, you. They saved me, so I trust them.” Arciro thought.
“Fine.” Said Sanko. “That’s just fine.”
Arciro had a bit more protection, at least. But his saviors did seem a bit...strange.

Sean rubbed his head. “You mean the Aberration Cave?” He asked the man.
“No.” He replied. “I’ve heard stories of a place like that in another ARK. I think it was called Valguero.”
“That’s where I’m from.” Sean chuckled.
“This is true aberration.”
“I see.”
“Shut up.” The man whispered.
“What?”
The man pointed to a three pronged plant sticking out of the ground. They were in some sort of device, like the one in the Valguero cave.
“That’s just a plant.” Sean was confused.
“You obviously have a lot to learn.” The man threw a dodo at the plant. Except it wasn’t a plant.
A massive snake burst out of the ground, attacking with balls of posion-and a three pronged tail.
“This is a Basilisk.”
“I see.”
“Well, let me teach you a few more things about the caverns.”
Footnote by Swamp Guy: I will be starting a new story in Basilisk. It’ll be called “Dark Extinction.” It’ll cover Arciro and Sean’s separate adventures.
The Twisted Sands- Chapter 2 By Swamp Guy
They sat by a fire, lazily cooking meat. The kapros and Thorny Dragons dozed in the hot sun.
“Get up, you.” A voice startled Nox, waking him up. The others were bound and gagged.
“Who are you?” One of them asked in a strong Australian accent.
“Kai.”
“Jenny.”
“Slav.”
“Chiron.”
“Nox.”
“Cutter.”
“Sandspike.”
“Quill.”
“Snork....snore....what’s going on?” Pouncer woke up, rubbing her eyes.
“We’ve heard of you.” They said. “We saw you fall from the sky.”
“Who are you?” Chiron asked.
“Kalo.” The first one said.
“Xencrixeir.” The other one said. “But just call me 89.”
“We need your help.” Kalo said.
—————————
Kalo and 89 had built a massive fortress in the dunes that lined the ARK. Turrets were set up. Massive...dragons? Kai was puzzled. The dragon they fought back on the island was obviously never meant to be tamed. Large bugs with sword hands, giant moths, camel-like dinos, more Thorny Dragons, cute little mouse things... this place was very different from the home Kai had known.
“Do you recognize this person?” 89 held up a piece of paper. On it was a familiar face.
A familiar, corrupted, malformed, face.
“Haphis!” Jenny gasped.
“So you do know him.” Kalo said.
“Unfortunately, yes.” Kai sighed. “You want us to help take him down?”
89 replied with a laugh. “There’s a few things you need to learn about the desert.”
