The Isle Of The Griffins Chapter 24

By Poecilotheria metallica

Lolite, Goldenbeak, Grappleclaw and Blink sat on one of the enormous limbs of the giant trees that filled the Griffin crater, from up among the canopy, the light was tinted and cool, dots and speckles dancing on the bark ground as the winds above blew upon the upper canopy.

Lolite caught and examined a large, fluffy creamy-coloured spider, the arachnid was about as big as Lolite's head including its eight stout legs, and had a soft, downy texture to its thick fur. The spider looked back on Lolite with its two large, reflective eyes and four small ones, and, despite having a rigid face and rather inexpressive mouth, it managed to give him a look of such concentrated offence that he set the soft creature free, allowing it to sit nearby.

"I still don't understand how you got free, Blink" said Grappleclaw, stroking the back of the spider as it nonchalantly preened one of its legs with its array of dexterous pedipalps.

"You'll see later on" Blink replied, eliciting a somewhat suspicious expression from Goldenbeak.

Lolite watched as the pale spider walked over to him and stared intently into his face, he suddenly felt a small tingling sensation in the back of his head and neck, originating from the purple Primal Crystals that grew from his skull, for just a quick moment, he thought he could feel another presence in his mind, and the aura of his crystals densened, the neon pink specs of light spinning toward the spider as, just maybe, a few darker purple materialised around the arachnid creature.

Lolite shook his brightly feathered head, dislodging a dark turquoise feather edged with navy blue and with a bright orange cometstreak down the middle, surrounding the quill,

and dismissed this as addled thought brought upon by the exertion of the escape and climbing the tree's massive height.

"Anyway," he said, "we know roughly the layout and location of the Snakes and Garnet's stronghold, this leaves the question of what to do about it"

The spider chirped, a noise not unlike that a cricket makes.

"We need to retaliate" replied Grappleclaw "or else the snakes will kill even more Griffins"

Lolite, silently, wondered what motive these snakes had, though he could imagine that of Garnet, he wondered why such creatures would follow her, as surely they would end up the same way as the Griffins once there was no need for them.

"Do they need any reasons" said the pessimistic and thoroughly apathetic voice, who now, Lolite realised with shock, had a body, a Rock Drake of a rather dull shade of grey, Lolite, having had enough of the menace, sent it flying through the unorganized mess of his memories, where it hit an old musing on the concept of rythm and music, dissipating into a cloud of unusually coloured blobs that floated away.

Temporarily rid of the pest, Lolite found what he was looking for, the Griffins who followed the Crystal Queen, he realised that the eye that was still alive was the exact same eye as that of the snakes he had seen, as we're the scales on their necks. Lolite suddenly remembered the electrified tendrils around the snake's face. . . And wasn't it theorised and near proven that the brains and bodies of creatures worked by the same force?.

"I think, at least, I know why the snakes follow Garnet," Lolite said, after explaining his suspicions and what he had succeeded to deduce, they continued their plotting, while the fluffy spider sat near Lolite.
