The Obelisk

-Chapter 30-

The carnivores stared down at the object. Rust held it carefully in his talons, keeping his head reared back at a length from the thing.

Needles paced back and forth behind them, shooting occasional glances at the object, muttering to himself.

“What is it?” Crimson asked.

The object looked ordinary. It looked like a placid piece of rock or metal, slightly sphere-shaped and scraped on the sides. It sat nonthreatningly in Rusts talons like any stone.

Except it wasn’t a dull grey or black like a normal stone. It glowed, bright green light emitting from its core, shining brightly against Rusts metallic orange-blue.

“I have no idea.” Forest said. “Maybe some kind of space rock?”

“Space?” Rust echoed nervously. “Like, outer space? This could be an a l i e n rock?”

He stood up.

“Or it’s just an new type of ore,” Spark said.

“Or not,” Rust said.

“What do you think it gonna do, explode?” Crimson asked Rust.

He shot her a look that said, “you know perfectly well i believe that’s a possibility.”

“No, it’s no ore,” Needles interjected. He was holding a smaller, more new looking scroll on his claws, reading it intently. “Forest is right about one thing, it’s not from down here.”

“Where did it come from?” Spark asked.

Needles gestured for them to follow and turned toward a tall hill covered in trees. “Come see.”

Forest was the first one up. He hurried after the large Velanasaur, and the others came soon after.

As they reached the top of the hill, Forest saw it.

“What is THAT?” Crimson yelped.

Rust and Spark gasped.

“That is an Obelisk,” Needles answered. “And that stone is a piece of it.”
