The Obelisk

Last Chapter was supposed to be in Fjordhawk, but was accidentally posted in Featherlight. Sorry for the inconvenience 🙃

-Chapter 45-

A day had passed. The carnivores were still imprisoned. A few Terror birds threw in some chunks of meat, a dead squirrel, and a few headless pigeons for them to eat. Forest sighed and began to munch on the squirrel hungrily.

“No fish?” Crimson asked as they marched away. “HEY! No FISH?!”

The only response was a bark of laughter down the hall as the Terror birds left the prisons.

“Are you kidding me? ARRGH, I hate you!” She clutched the metal bars with her talons, watching them go.

“We’re never getting out of here!”

Nyx swallowed a pigeon whole, looking nervous. “Hey, look on the bright side,” she began.

Crimson scowled, slowly turning her head to glare at Nyx. “w h a t b r i g h t s i d e?” She growled through gritted teeth.

“Umm,” Nyx stammered, “they haven’t killed us. At least they feed us, uhh, at least there’s light and water?”

Crimson stared at her, her eyes flaming. “How can you be so cheerful all the time?”

“I have to stay cheerful so I don’t lose hope,” Nyx said. “What would I be if I weren’t?”

“Miserable?” Rust suggested. “Angry at the world? Grumpy.. Hm. What’s another word—oh wait, a K a p r o.”

Crimsons wing her head around to him. “We are not all mindless grumpy killers. I’m different, all right?”

“We’ll, I didn’t say k i l l e r s…” he was saying…

“stop labeling me!” Crimson snarled. “You don’t know what I’ve been through!”

“We would if you told us,” Forest said through a mouth full of squirrel fur. “We don’t know much about your backstory at all.”

“NO!” Crimson suddenly snarled. “You wouldn’t understand! You wouldn’t at all!” She tightened her grip on the metal bars, pressing the top of her head against them.

What happened to her? Forest thought. What could have happened to make her this way?
