Chapter twenty two: An evil switch in plans.

“I’m surprised that you didn’t want to be teamed up with your girlfriend.” Brutus said, sitting watching Daniel train Hailey. Daniel shrugged while lifting a huge weight. “Actually we broke up.” He remarked casually. Brutus blinked. “Wait, wait, wait, y’all broke up?!?” Brutus exclaimed. Daniel set the weight down and raised his eyebrows at Brutus. “Yeah we did….why do you care?” Daniel asked. “Oh I don’t. I was just about to verbally insult you two but now….I’m gonna go eat that pegomastax to drown my sorrow.” Brutus said then walked off to find Peggie. Hailey was trying in vain to lift a giant weight. Daniel watched her. “Lift with your legs not you back. Trust me. I was saw a guy lift with his back and he ended up in a wheelchair the rest of his life.” Daniel said. Hailey tried harder. “I…can’t pick it up!” Hailey said while tugging at the weight. It didn’t move an inch. Daniel scooted her aside and picked the weight up like it was nothing. “What? How did you do that?” Hailey asked. Daniel flashed his pearly whites and tossed the weight in the air and caught it. “I’ve been practicing and…one of my abilities is super strength.” Daniel said. “Oh. So technically you’re cheating?” Hailey asked. Daniel shrugged. “I guess you could look at it that way. So what’s your ability? I mean you do have one right? This mission would be dangerous if you didn’t. Not that it isn’t already dangerous.” Daniel asked. “I don’t know. Sometimes it seems like animals listen to me. But that could be my imagination right?” Daniel shrugged. “Honestly….I have zero idea and…I generally don’t care.” Just then Marvelo walked into the room. “Okay guys there has been a change in plans. Brutus will go with Peggie, I will go with Camille, Jaron will go with Daniel, and Hailey will go Willow.” Marvelo said. “Why are we switching?” Hailey asked. “One of the team members asked if we could.” Hailey didn’t have to think twice to know who it was. Willow. Willow shot Hailey an evil grin. “Okay everyone needs to come with me. We’re heading to cliffside city by jet.” Marvelo said. Daniel gave Hailey a pitying look like he was sorry that she had to be partnered with Willow.

Moments later all of them were squeezed into a jet except Camille who flew beside the jet.
