Monarchy's Plight

Chapter 7

Goon rested on the floor of the cave, full from the direwolf Alisa had brought back. His leg wasn't fully healed yet, so he still couldn't hunt. He felt bad about Alisa having to do everything for him. She was very generous for a stranger, and he hated feeling helpless, like he wasn't useful. He cracked open his eyes as a chill ran down his spine. His shadow was looking at him.

"I notice you didn't help me when Alisa attacked."

His shadow gave no response.

"I guess you knew she wouldn't be a danger then?"

His shadow still didn't respond. After a moment of silence, it moved across the cave floor, pointing its face towards the entrance before looking back at Goon.

"Yeah, she has been gone a while, hasn't she?" Goon struggled to his feet, keeping the weight off of his good leg. He limped towards the front of the cave and poked his head outside. The sky was clear of the dangerous dimorphodons. He ventured further outside and looked around. There was no sign of Alisa anywhere.

His shadow waved its tail for his attention, pointing a claw at some markings in the ground. Footprints; Alisa's judging by the shape and size. The prints went on for a while before they stopped suddenly. "Where could she-"

He was cut off by a roar from the sky. He looked up, squinting his eyes against the sun. Something was flying overhead in his direction. It looked like a bird of some sort. There was a screech from the bird and another roar from something it held in its claws. As it passed overhead and flew over the cave, Goon realized it was Alisa in the bird's claws. Immediately, his shadow took off after the bird and Goon followed.
