The Riddles of The Phoenixes

The Lost world

Chapter ten: Following the leader..

“You know that look that people, Rowan for example, give you when you do something “wrong” and it makes you so…uncomfortable? Not that it makes ME uncomfortable but I guessed since you know “everything”, you would know about it.” Cedric asked Oliver, as they walked. Rowan had decided that they should head to the obelisk dome because it might hood some answers. So currently they were trampling through the forest, Cedric was very thirsty so naturally his mind started buzzing with strange questions.

Oliver pushed his glasses up, smirking. “Ahh, this is not naturally mentioned but I have studied several people with…this particular talent. Plus my father told me about it…

He calls it “the death glare”. Women are exceptionally great at performing it. It makes you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. A good way to avoid getting it is too not annoy people.” Oliver said. Cedric scoffed.

“I’m thirsty. Could we look for water?” Cedric called. Rowan glanced over her shoulder and responded with a hard glare.

Cedric shifted his weight and Oliver smirked. Elayne was tripping over vines and her own feet, moaning about “air conditioning”, “servants”, and other “princessy stuff. Kannon was walking aimlessly behind them, staring off into the distance. Cedric was pretty sure that Kannon would die without them. He was as Rowan put it….useless. He was always staring off into this distance, his face void of emotions or thought. A lake was nearby but they weren’t stopping.

“Agh, I’m SOOO thirsty….” Elayne groaned. Rowan glared at her, and Elayne clutched Cedric’s arm pathetically. Cedric shook her free. “Bro, stop touching me!” He didn’t want to admit it but he was thirsty too. Rowan had been pushing them for several hours. His mouth felt like a desert. Oliver was constantly licking his lips, much too Rowan’s annoyance.

“Could we stop for a breaaaak?” Elayne dared to murmur. Rowan stopped, wiped sweat from her forehead, and whirled to glare even harder at them. “WILL. Y’ALL. STOP. COMPLAINING!!!!!! Y’all agreed to follow me no matter what!!!” Rowan snapped. “Technically Cedric promised us that.” Oliver said. He cowered beneath her furious look. “Stop yelling. You’re going to attract predators.” Cedric slurred. He stopped and licked his lips. “Sorry. I’m thirsty.”

“SHUT IT!!! Y’ALL ARE FOLLOWING ME!! SO-” Suddenly a loud squawking sound rang through the air. “Uhh what was that?” Elayne said nervously. They didn’t have to wait long. “Pteradon!!!!” Oliver cried. From the sky, pteranodons dived down, squawking, grabbing, pecking, and yanking at them. “Duck and cover!!!” Cedric roared, grabbing a fallen tree branch and hefting it at the pteranodons. Oliver rolled up into a tight ball on the ground, while Rowan swung a bat she had fashioned earlier at the pteranodons. Elayne was shrieking and running in circles, pteranodons nipping at her heels.

Kannon was…standing there. Cedric smacked a pteranodon out of midair. It hit a tree and fell to the ground dead. Three more pteranodons swooped at Cedric and Rowan, pushing them back. Oliver was not noticed hardly. “AGHHHHHHH!!!!! HELP MEEE!!!!” Elayne wailed. Rowan and Cedric were trapped, unable to get to Elayne. They were surrounded by a swarm of pteranodons. A huge pteranodon landed on top of her, knocking her to the ground. It opened it’s beak wide, about to bring it down on her neck….
