The Plague of Specters.

Prologue

The light burned. It burned to much. Rex was going to die alone, his pack wondering where he was. He tried to stand up, but one of his legs was burned down to the bone. Useless. He looked up. He wanted it to end. He went blind in mere moments. Rex howled, howled for his pack, for his mate Shadow, for his troupe that had abandoned him. No one would hear him. Suddenly he felt a shadow on his back. Rex heard a voice. “I can save you. I can make this pain end. I can make you more powerful than ever.” Rex froze. Power proved everything in his pack. “What does it take,” he rasped. “Only your trust.” Rex lifted his paw. A cold, sharp pain filled him. It intoxicated him. Strengthening him. Rex could feel himself become powerful, so powerful. And he could see again. But something felt wrong. He looked down at his paw. Bone. He looked at himself fully. He was a skeleton. He felt fear. He looked up at a skeleton man covered in a mossy mushroom cloak. “Welcome to the Specters, Rex. Your new name is Wraith.” The man cackled as Rex, now Wraith, felt his memory slipping away. “Shadow,” he whispered, “I’m so sorry….” And Rex was gone. His pack was now the Specters.
