The Final Feast

Chapter 17

One scribbled in her explorer notes on the back of the Máng Nù entry. She had encountered the onycs twice, and both times her theory had proven true. The first time they went after Sandman, the giant snake. Although a few of them had followed Corvi they turned their attention to the sarco when they encountered it. Now that she thought of it, the onycs that had followed Corvi didn't seem to know Sandman was there. The second time they ignored her and her wolves all together and went after Jet the allo. They'd all noticed him, but when the noticed the bronto corpse, they went after it instead. There was only one reasonable explanation: Máng Nù go after the biggest meal they can find. It was still just a theory until she could prove it. She left the hut and climbed up to the aviary. Corvi was gone.

Venus crashed through the redwoods, One on her back. The rex crushed everything in her path, keeping an eye out for the bird. One looked down. Parasaurs dashed out of the way, avoiding Venus' crushing feet. Trikes looked up and snorted before reluctantly putting distance between themselves and the rex. One's attention was drawn upward by the unmistakable screech of her argentavis. A silhouette against the moon, Corvi dashed left and right, diving and swooping up again. She was fighting another silhouette. One squinted. She was fighting many silhouettes in the shape of bats. One stopped Venus and watched in terror as Corvi fought for her life. Flashbacks of Redwing being ripped apart by a direwolf filled her head. She refused to watch another argent die.
