The Final Feast

Chapter 10

Corvi sped after the snake, determined to reach the human before the boa could when, in a flurry of screeches, a flood of large winged creatures darkened the sky. "There here ... sssoner than I thought," hissed the boa fearfully. The creatures dove and swarmed the three of them. Corvi screeched and kicked the creatures off of her. Through the horde of wings she could see the titanoboa and her human doing the same. She pushed through a line of them and dashed towards the human, clutching the survivor in her talons and pushing herself into the air as quickly as she could. Most of the creatures remained on the ground, attacking the giant boa, but a few took to the sky with Corvi, hunting her down. Out of the crowd, she could make thsm out more clearly. They were pale, eyeless onycs, hissing and frothing at the mouth ... but what they were doing outside, she couldn't tell.

Corvi dove down to gain momentum, the bats doing the same behind her. She darted through the swamp trees, avoiding the jaws of a sarco as she went. As it snapped up behind her, it caught a mouthfull of the onycs. The small horde scattered, panicked by the sudden uproar. She turned her head back, expecting them to scatter and fly off, but watched in horror as they regrouped and devoured the sarco in a matter off seconds. It was just long enough for Corvi to put enough distance between them escape.
