Easiest thing to do is approach it from beside or behind, get close and shoot it and immediately run under its head, it goes into turret mode and won't hit you or melee you. Additionally you can move left or right and aim towards a certain spot that it will run to just before it knocks out, very helpful if you're near water or a cliff or something

Wow so many silly over the top useless tips. STOP BEING LAZY AND MAKE A TRAP! 2x2 wood trap with door frames is all you need. Drop it in with a wyvern.

Easy knockout get a managarmr and the managarmr can use its searing spit wich can oy freeze dinosaurs in first person view and freeze the velonosaur before he or she agros you then simply knock it out with shocking tranqs or normal tranqs.

A set of flak, crossbow and a pair of balls you can walk right up to one of these and it'll either run away from you or try to hit you with its needles, run underneath the tail to confuse it and you'll prolly knock it out without much trouble.

Stone 2x2 with 2x high stone door ways, if you have something to carry it drop it in the top, if not than build stairs and lead it up. Or run/hover circles around it.

You can just either walk up to it and tank the hits with your body and armor ONLY if you have decent to good armor. Or you can use something that has good hp and tank it like that, preferably something that’s tacky, and you can use weapons on. They don’t take a lot to tranq out, can indeed use a prim 100% crossbow.

I found a level 11 of these. I walked in circles and hit it with a club, it only took 10 tries. Tip, use something better. I did end up taming it with a club.

Traps are overkill for taking these. A friend and I have a strategy where one tanks hits on a gasbag (anything with high health will do) and the other just tranqs it from the side. A person with a metal shield can work as a distraction too, but not for long. This is an effective strategy as velonasours have low torpor and will be knocked before it does too much damage.

A group of these will turn ANY AND ALL your tames into porcupines

Easy to knockout with darts. avoid when it goes into turret mode, even a lvl 20 will melt your health. runs when close to knockout though so you may need to trap it using a quick wall if your worried about bigger predators. Starve taming this is so easy you don’t even need to waste the time making kibble. Use raw prime if your able to. These are organic turrets, meaning no bullets, they eat fish or meat when tamed. You only need to pump stats into Stamina and melee, they are a small creature so pumping health is only good if you mutate for health maybe. Good luck

All yu really need is a high health stego on passive get higher than the velonosaur then stand behind it and tranq it out

A really good method I used to tame a lvl 130 was to get my snow owl (anything will work as long as it has 3K health minimum), land it right next to the velonasaur, wait till it aggroed and jumped off, from there what happened was it was too close to my snow owl to use turret mode so it used the swipe which does pretty much no damage. When I started tranqing it it was focused on my snow owl and kept attack it until it started torpor running even though I was right next to it. Up if you find that this works because I’m not certain how reliable this is

They have a very bad melee attack if you have good enough armor or enough health you can beat them with clubs

If you play by yourself you can tame a velonasaur by using a tranq creature and tranqing it while constantly moving in circles to dodge its needles or by being on a rock/small cliff then tranqing it In my first time taming one I was on a cliff and the velonasour couldn't attack me I was using a slingshot so it was hard.one last way to tame it is to use a tanky creature and tranq it while your dino is risking his life

Unfortunately, it doesn't work anymore to just run up to it and walk circles around it (it will stay in turret and shoot you till you're dead). Instead find a cliff and try shooting it from above so that it will shoot against the cliff instead of you.

Try a decently high level snow owl with stats invested in health and stam set to passive stay no wander, land right in front of the vela you wish to tame getting aggro on the owl then tranq, tame, and cryo the vela keeping an eye on your owl the entire time, if they get too bloodyvyou can always hop onto the owl and freeze up for a heal on both you and the wild Dino making it less likely for both creatures to die without affecting the torp too much
