Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a velonasaur? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a velonasaur.
You don’t need to trap this to tame, it’s a solo tame. If you run up to it, it will go into turret mode then you need to walk circles around it and keep hitting with tranq until it eventually tries to walk away *in turret mode so really slow walking*
They can be found in the Fjordur Map on the shores in the Volcano biome, along with some X-Trikes and a few more stuff- — Bob the Builder

A good way to tame these guys is to pick them up with a wyvern (for level selection) and put them in a metal bill board cage outside of the desert. If you don't have a wyvern available, sneak into it's face so it doesn't spike you (or have a buddy do that) and use a riot shield and tranqs.
We can use the net projectile with this dino, easy tame!
About a couple weeks ago, I was so lucky I was fooled into thinking a Velonasaur disregarded a shooter when mounting an Allosaur. Just now, I thought about how a Stegosaurus protects it's rider from arrows, and then shot at the Velonasaur between the plates in Hardened mode. I got very little damage comparatively, and knocked it out in relative peace. Stegos are the key, my packmates.
Make a 2x2 cage with ramps and a door. Lure the velonasaur in with a flyer. If you stay close to him he won’t enter turret mode. Leveling melee raises his projectile hit points. Also level stamina to attack longer. A high level can shred everything I’ve come across. Can’t wait for an imprinted one for the speed bonus.
I found a bug a few days ago with a pteradacle if that is how you pronuce it. If you use the pteradacle and walk up to a velonasaur on it for some reason the velonasaur goes into turret mode and does not shoot or anything. It just stands there so just walk up to one with a pteradacle and when it stares into your pteradacle for forever just load it with trans off of the pteradacle and you got a velonasaur.
Up for people to see this is the easiest way to tame this guy.
Shut up, Andrewsarchus is not better and i refuse to believe it.
How to tame a Velonasaur:
1. Prepare.
You Need:
A Harpoon Gun with Net Projectiles
Longneck and Tranq Darts
(optional)A Riot Shield, color it red, white and blue so you feel like Captain America
Superior Kibble
2. Find a good Velonasaur, watch out! They usually spawn in pairs.
3. Avengers!….Assemble…
Use the shield to block the incoming needles, when you see an opportunity, shoot at it with the Net Gun…you can also just sneak up on it and fire at it.
4. Knock it out with Tranq Darts
5. Feed it Superior Kibble, give it Narcotics if it’s close to waking up
6. Name your Velonasaur! They have a good melee attack, however they can also shoot needles out of their neck frills. Make sure to level up Health, Stam and Melee.

If you tame one, I suggest using this method. First, build a 1x1 of any material except thatch ( since they can break it). on each of the walls, place a window. Whenever you need to shoot, you open a window and shoot. Close the window to reload and to be protected from the needles. I had my tribe mate do this because we made a bet that if he survived while trying to knock out the Dino, he would give me his armor. Hope this helps you tame a velonosuar!
I tamed one the other day by placing a wood fence foundation and a wall when he tried to shoot I hid behind the wall and every now and then I would shoot him with a tranq dart he was a 145
I don't know what everyone is saying about strafing around these things, on xbox they literally shoot spines in any direction around them, even straight behind
If you use a snow owl to freeze it then while still mounted to keep it frozen surround it with wooden billboards so it can’t shoot you or get out
Tip normal raw meat works better with tamping
Velonasaurs live in the desert bio-some on extinction, and are OP they can take down a Rex 150 breaded before it even attacks you!(I tried), and are breedable! This thing is over powered! They shoot spikes out of their heads!
If you have a tanky large Dino with good health you can hide behind it so it gets shot and not you and easily shoot the velonasaur with tranqs
It is better to tame the R variants because they are naturally stronger
Pair these with a plat quetzal and you have an amazing aerial fighter. Why not use auto turrets well because if you hit one once or twice with an RPG it will get destroyed and the velonasaur if pumped in health can’t by the way if you do use this only pump health pumping damage won’t effect the damage the needles from the velonasaur will do and since you will be taking out outher aerial threats or some ground threats you won’t need to pump health another good thing about this is that you don’t need to use up any more bullets on you quetzal. Also you can pick up a velonasaur if you can’t fit anymore on the platform which will be effective against ground targets and more aerial targets trying to get to the more week spot of the quetzal so highly recommend I’ll be doing a lot more of these tactics on other creatures as well so see you on the next tip ;) - A.L.N.A
