Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a shadowmane? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a shadowmane.
Use ghillie and cactus broth if on fjordur approach from the back somewhere between the tail and back absolute necessary
I suggest that you search for the fishes first (preferably 1.5x and above) before looking for shadowmane and then cryopod them, that way you can release them later and recapture it with fish basket after you found the shadowmane without needing to worry about fish basket spoils time
Also, as long as they don't aggro to anything their taming rate won't get down
( °^°)7
Since I haven't seen anything regarding this I'm gonna share another useful tip:
I know the filled fishbasket is a nuisance with both weight and the need to refresh it once in a while. What you can do is after you've caught a fish, throw it out again, cryo it and you can preserve it this way as long as you like. Just craft some more baskets when you are going to tame a shadowmane just bring out the fish from your cryopod, use baskets to fill it up again and then use them on the shadowmane. Up soother ppl can see it too
2 mates on spoons.....clear the area that your shadowmane is in..we clear all trees, and ALL wild or tamed Dino’s other than our spinos....we choose take fish no less than 1.3x in size (level doesn’t matter on official). We wear ghillie full suit. We attempt taming from 9 am game time and stop attempting at 7 pm game time (1900 hours) it WILL hold it’s taming throughout the night for the next day to start where you left off....BE PATIENT, only approach from its back side when It’s laying down with your basket of fish. When I step off the spino at no closer than 27 meters from it, I crouch walk all the way to it, feed it, and turn around and crouch ALL the way back to my spino.....start tracking your tame, keep area clear of Dino’s or trees that glow lets lurk in.... dead Dino’s, or most live Dino’s really mess with this beast!! Keep all live and dead Dino’s harvested within 200 meters of your tame....rinse and repeat the process.... if it looks glitchy, let it walk around for a second.... if it starts jerking or looking like it’s coughing a hair ball, that means there is a Dino somewhere near by!!! Kill said Dino and let the shadowmane relax... hope this was helpful. Just tamed our first one on official pve. Thanks
Taming a shadow mane is not as easy as it looks. The first thing your going to need to do is get the taming food for the shadowmane, which is fish in fish baskets. Try to catch big fish because the bigger the fish the more the taming effectiveness. Now your going to need to find one. Finding shadowmanes are relatively easy considering they live along rivers and bodies of water, be careful though as they can be in packs of 3 - 6 or less. Once you have found a shadow mane try to isolate it from its pack so that you don’t get attacked by the other pack members, then build a 4 foundation, 16 wall, 4 ramp trap and lure the shadow mane inside. Once the shadowmane is unaggro’d on the trap you can feed it, shadowmanes are nocturnal so because of this they will take short naps in the daytime which is how you feed them fish in fish baskets. If you follow these tips I guarantee you will tame yourself a decent high level shadowmane to conquer the ark with. I wish you the best of luck survivor!
Stone dino gates and gateway
make a medium size circle
use a dino or yourself and run through a gate then close it
It can't teleport through so only enter when it's sleeping
Have some beds
For everyone who says you can’t craft fish baskets, go to Asgard then the blue swamp. Not only will you find shadowmanes, some of the plants harvest fungal wood
Your welcome
Shadowmanes dont aggro on rock drakes so you can wait on one till it sleeps but if it aggros on you before you get on the rockdrake it will attack you and both dinos ate found on fjordur aswell
They do not sleep at night, and if they see you or your creature, they will attack and go into a sort of hunting state to where they’ll start killing everything in the area. What I did was just leave render distance and come back, the Shadowmanes are usually sleeping when re-rendered into the game. From there you feed it once (you actually don’t need Gillie as long as you’re careful) and just continue the taming like a normal passive tame.
Important!!!!
Fish you catced dont have to spoil!!!
Put them on your hotbar and dive under water.
I’m not sure if anyone knows this but this is the easiest way i’ve found to tame them when it comes to using fish.
1. Go to any map of your choosing
2. Trap the fishes in Fish Baskets
3. Release, then Soul Ball or Cryo them
4. Transfer to Gen 2 or Fj (where ever the Shadowmanes live)
5. Unpod the fish into water and retrap them in baskets
Just be careful when unpodding them in hostile areas as other dinos will attack them.
Don't use any fish you find , try to only get big sabertooth salmons
These are incredibly bugged on Fjordur. Randomly wake up and wont go back to sleep, and taming randomly resrts while they are still asleep.
For catching fish… place a human cage on the fish, place basket and caught, saves waiting for fish to come to your basket.
Thatch foundation also trap fish
In Fjordur you can also get fungal wood from the blue bulby mushroom tree things where the shadowmanes spawn.
Trap it in a 2x2, then use net harpoon if it does the no sleep glitch. After hours of struggling I tried the harpoon and it works! Did not lower taming efficiency in my case.
build a 2x2x2 box then fly above the box with your tek armour and shoot it so it agros on you. it will then teleport to you and fall into the box. next, you fly away from the box so it is out of render. fly back to the box and feed the shadowmane through the wall. there is no way for it to ago unless you fly above the walls.
Easiest way to tame a shadowmane without a ghillie suit:
[This won't make finding large fish any easier, but will greatly help the taming process be basically 100% impossible to mess up]
- make a 2x2 box, 2 walls high, 3 walls high on opposite side of ramps
- make sure the walls are actual walls, not doorframes, windows, etc.
- build a ramp on whatever side you so please
- bait shadowmane into trap and leave render distance to deaggro the shadowmane
- if the shadowmane is continuing to attack the walls of your trap, build new walls and place over the wall(s) it's attacking
- done, let it sleep, walk up (with or without ghillie suit, won't matter) feed it, and boom...
In fjordur inside the abberation cave in Vannaland close to the beach, if you got the megapithicus terminal where a karkinos spawns, in the little pond with the lampreys, you can find a lot of decent sized x-sabertooth salmons, for shadowmane taming. (I was able to catch about six 1.1 - 1.2s)It's super easy o cath them because they don't move because of how shallow the water is(the water is purple)
DO NOT GIVE THEM TRILOBITE 😅 They dont like that
