Taming & KO Tips
How do I tame a shadowmane? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a shadowmane.
I’m pretty sure that shadow manes are nocternol because while I was trying to tame a shadow mane it wouldn’t sleep and it was night and all it was doing was running after animals and fish hope this helped you :/
Elixir can also be used on passive tames such as this one. However, I've read on Reddit that somone used it on Shadowmane and that it restarted their taming to 30%. I was sort of scared because I was also going to tame Shadowmane at the time, and I was sure that I don't have enough fishes to tame high level (most of them were higher than 1.5, I think I had two of them like 1.3) I already included the fact that most of them are gonna probably spoil, as I don't remember that often to refresh them in water. I had some problems, as the game was really glitchy and I ran out of good fishes. So as you can tell I was forsed to use elixir. I took situation as if it finishes tame (Shadowmane at the time was st 70%) I'm gonna just put it in cryopod but if it restarts I'm gonna just give up since I didn't have any good fish left. I put elixir in my last slot and I slowly aproached Shadowmane as it was sleeping. I just looked at him and I pressed 0 (button for PC -last slot) and it was tamed! Pretty happy expirience, because it was my first time using elixir on Shadowmane. My first try taming Shadowmane was without elixir and it was also good! It was pretty low level so I didn't need that good fish. He died to another player killing us in half of the game R.I.P Safet (Safet is old Bosnian name XD)
Easiest way to tame a shadowmane without a ghillie suit:
[This won't make finding large fish any easier, but will greatly help the taming process be basically 100% impossible to mess up]
- make a 2x2 box, 2 walls high, 3 walls high on opposite side of ramps
- make sure the walls are actual walls, not doorframes, windows, etc.
- build a ramp on whatever side you so please
- bait shadowmane into trap and leave render distance to deaggro the shadowmane
- if the shadowmane is continuing to attack the walls of your trap, build new walls and place over the wall(s) it's attacking
- done, let it sleep, walk up (with or without ghillie suit, won't matter) feed it, and boom...
2 mates on spoons.....clear the area that your shadowmane is in..we clear all trees, and ALL wild or tamed Dino’s other than our spinos....we choose take fish no less than 1.3x in size (level doesn’t matter on official). We wear ghillie full suit. We attempt taming from 9 am game time and stop attempting at 7 pm game time (1900 hours) it WILL hold it’s taming throughout the night for the next day to start where you left off....BE PATIENT, only approach from its back side when It’s laying down with your basket of fish. When I step off the spino at no closer than 27 meters from it, I crouch walk all the way to it, feed it, and turn around and crouch ALL the way back to my spino.....start tracking your tame, keep area clear of Dino’s or trees that glow lets lurk in.... dead Dino’s, or most live Dino’s really mess with this beast!! Keep all live and dead Dino’s harvested within 200 meters of your tame....rinse and repeat the process.... if it looks glitchy, let it walk around for a second.... if it starts jerking or looking like it’s coughing a hair ball, that means there is a Dino somewhere near by!!! Kill said Dino and let the shadowmane relax... hope this was helpful. Just tamed our first one on official pve. Thanks
Stone dino gates and gateway
make a medium size circle
use a dino or yourself and run through a gate then close it
It can't teleport through so only enter when it's sleeping
Have some beds
These are incredibly bugged on Fjordur. Randomly wake up and wont go back to sleep, and taming randomly resrts while they are still asleep.
Shadowmanes are horrible in simpler traps that don't fully abuse ai and whatnot, so if you don't want to waste 40k stone for half a trap, try netting the shadowmanes when they go on the prowl (invis) and killing the bad ones while leaving your preferred one alive, then leaving the locale and coming back and doing the tame the right way. Trust me, it is way more consistent when you don't use a trap, just leagues more dangerous.
Taming a shadow mane is not as easy as it looks. The first thing your going to need to do is get the taming food for the shadowmane, which is fish in fish baskets. Try to catch big fish because the bigger the fish the more the taming effectiveness. Now your going to need to find one. Finding shadowmanes are relatively easy considering they live along rivers and bodies of water, be careful though as they can be in packs of 3 - 6 or less. Once you have found a shadow mane try to isolate it from its pack so that you don’t get attacked by the other pack members, then build a 4 foundation, 16 wall, 4 ramp trap and lure the shadow mane inside. Once the shadowmane is unaggro’d on the trap you can feed it, shadowmanes are nocturnal so because of this they will take short naps in the daytime which is how you feed them fish in fish baskets. If you follow these tips I guarantee you will tame yourself a decent high level shadowmane to conquer the ark with. I wish you the best of luck survivor!
I would only take fisch with min 1.2x and some with higher stat like 1.5x. I had one 2.0x, 4 1.3x and 3 1.2x and i got a 150 lvl with 4x taming speed
Make sure u have a fish bigger than 0.5
If trying to tame u need to squat by its butt/back then feed it the fish
Important!!!!
Fish you catced dont have to spoil!!!
Put them on your hotbar and dive under water.
In fjordur inside the abberation cave in Vannaland close to the beach, if you got the megapithicus terminal where a karkinos spawns, in the little pond with the lampreys, you can find a lot of decent sized x-sabertooth salmons, for shadowmane taming. (I was able to catch about six 1.1 - 1.2s)It's super easy o cath them because they don't move because of how shallow the water is(the water is purple)
For catching fish… place a human cage on the fish, place basket and caught, saves waiting for fish to come to your basket.
Thatch foundation also trap fish
CONSERVE YOUR FISH BASKETS!
Trap fish in a fish basket, then cryo the fish. Keep them cryoed until you want to tame a shadow, then make another fish basket, release them from the cryo and trap them again. Put the fish basket in your hot bar and submerge yourself to reset their timer. No wasting fish baskets. Get lots of fungal wood to make more baskets as they will destroy after you "tame".

Tame megalosaurus, pickup doggo, put in trap, tame all doggos

Get a lot of fish baskets keep them on you at all times then trap a bunch of fish before you want to tame a shadow mane then cryo the fish only catch fish that are 1.4 or bigger then when it’s time to tame uncryo them then catch them again and find a high lvl shadow mane and you should get 100% taming I hope this helped
Tip for genesis 2- use a net gun to get a quetz. Get it to at least 5k stamina. Cryo him up. Make 5 foundations, 12 ceilings, 12 walls and 12 fence foundations. Then you want to go to rockwells garden following the city trench all the way to the other side. You'll find a building with with a pool of water behind it. You'll want to set the trap up on the roof of the building. The trap is 2 by 4, foundations in the corners connected by the ceilings. Put the fence foundations on the inside and the fence on top of the fence foundations. You'll be able to crouch under the ceilings but not the foundations and the fence foundations blocks the shadowmanes line of sight. Go and scope out a high level kitty, kill it's pack then cycle visor to check for not like. Pop out the quetz and go and pick kitty up and put them in the trap. Don't thank me, thank phlinger!
Shadowmanes, have a time period within which they sleep, this is during the day and starts at 8:00 you can see the world time by holding H and looking in the top left corner. Also Ghillie suits are completely unnecessary as long as you stay behind and retreat quickly once fed.
