The Riddles of The Phoenixes
The Riddles of The Phoenixes
The Lost world
Chapter nine: Teaming up.
Cedric’s wet boots squeaked as he walked. *SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!* Oliver chuckled. “That sounds so weird.” He laughed. Cedric smirked at him evilly. “Imagine how it feels.” Oliver blinked. “Is there water in there?” He asked. Cedric stroked his chin in mock thoughtfulness. “Hmm….let me see.” Cedric said. He pulled his boot up, raised it over Oliver’s head and tipped it over. Ocean water splatted on Oliver’s face and hair. Oliver gaped at him. Cedric grinned. “Yep! There was water in there!” Oliver pushed his glasses up and glared at Cedric. Cedric innocently put his boot back on. “Why. Did. You. Do. That?” Oliver exclaimed angrily. Cedric’s grin was his only answer. “I don’t know how anyone puts up with you.”Oliver muttered. “They don’t. Why do you think I was sent to the Phoenix school in the first place? And besides you were already wet, why not get wetter?” Kannon was staring straight ahead, ignoring them. They continued walking. Strange prehistoric animals roamed about. Pterodactyls and dimophons flew above them and triceratops, parsaurs, and dodos and more creatures roamed about.
“This is so weird. It’s like we’ve been transported back to the Arks. But they were years ago. Why do you think this is happening?” Oliver asked. Cedric shrugged. “We can’t be the only one’s here.” Cedric said. “We’re not.” Oliver said grimly. Kannon pointed ahead. Two girls were walking in their direction. One was Rowan and the other was Elayne. “I’m gonna get sunburnt!!! My beautiful complexion….all gone!!” Elayne wailed. Rowan was tugging her along by her wrist. “Will you please shut it!!!! I’m trying to help US survive and you aren’t helping by being a big baby.” Rowan snapped. “You’re squeezing my arm to hard!!! You’re gonna leave a mark!” Elayne moaned. Rowan glanced up and spotted them. Immediately she froze.
Oliver, Cedric, and Kannon walked up. A piece of black cloth was tied around Rowan’s right wrist. “You’re digging your fingernails into my arm!!!” Elayne wailed. Rowan grunted and thrust her forward. “Will you stop complaining?! I’m trying to help us survive and all you’re doing is complaining?!” Rowan growled. Elayne cowered. Cedric stepped forward, smiling softly. “Hey. Give her a break, will you?” Cedric asked. “She’s never been helpless.” Rowan spun toward him, her eyes flashing with anger. “What do you know?! I’ve been dragging this “poor, helpless” princess along!!! She’s done nothing. Nothing!” Rowan spat. Elayne whimpered. Cedric grinned and squared his shoulders. “Worst things have been done.” He said.
Rowan rolled her eyes. “Yeah right. Take your useless cousin.” Rowan said, pushing Elayne toward him. Elayne whimpered and hid behind him. “Calm down, bro.” Cedric said. Rowan glared at him. “What do you think you are, the leader here?” Rowan glared at him. “I’m not your “bro”!! If I was going to stay with you bozos then yes, because I’m the only one here who actually knows how to survive. He is useless, he is a scaredy-cat, she is a drama queen, and you-you might have potential but all you can do is play around! Good luck! I’m finding my own way off this island!”
Kannon looked on blankly, Oliver ducked his head, Elayne clutched Cedric’s arm, and Cedric…Cedric smiled softly. “You’re right. We can’t “survive” without a leader. And sense you have so happily volunteered and shown us what kind of leader you are….you can be our leader!” Cedric exclaimed. Rowan sputtered with indignation. Cedric continued grinning. “No! I can’t- I mean- I won’t- ugh stop making that face- ugh fine!! But y’all have to do EXACTLY as I say!!” Rowan snapped. Cedric shrugged. “The rest of them agree.” He said. Rowan’s eyes glittered with anger. She scowled.
