Chapter six: Metamorphosis

Cedric sat in one of the classes with the other students. Mr. Steward, this classes teacher was droning on about the Arks. Rowan was sitting beside the window. Cedric saw a flash of strangely colored lightning flash outside but no rain came. He shook his head. Rowan and a Oliver were listening to the teacher intently. Elayne had a large book set up on her desk to block her from the teacher’s view and was applying makeup on in front of her tiny mirror. Kannon was staring blankly at the wall behind the teacher. “The Arks were very dangerous but the victims had one advantage, does anyone know what that was?” Mr Steward asked. Rowan raised her hand. Mr Steward tapped his chin with his pencil and then pointed it at her. “They had implants that had special powers. Later theses implants were transformed into medallions, to give to the royals,by fusing elements and shaping them into-”

Cedric stopped listening. She seemed to know a lot about the Arks but he didn’t care. This was boring. All the classes so far had been boring in his opinion. History of the phoenixes. Boring. How to control your medallion power, a special class for royals. Boring, he already knew how to do that. Mystical creatures and fungi. Boring. Math. Boring. English. Boring. The Arks. BORING!!! Cedric pressed his hand against his forehead.

Cedric’s eyes began to droop lower and lower and then suddenly his head hit the desk. Cedric sat up quickly. The rest of the teenagers and Mr Steward were staring at him. Rowan was glaring at him for interrupting her. “Do you have anything you want to say?” Mr Steward asked slowly. “No sir but the desk might. It’s the thing that made that noise.” Cedric replied. Mr Steward opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted. Cedric’s medallion suddenly began to glow a deep navy blue. Cedric gasped. His medallion only did that when he used his power. Which he wasn’t right now.

Elayne, who was sitting by Rowan, watched with wide eyes as her medallion lit up, a bright silver color. The three other royal Phoenix kids, medallions lit up as well. Cedric covered his eyes as a bright light filled the room. Rowan was shielding her eyes while yanking at her black cloth jacket for some reason. “What is going on?!?!” Mr Steward cried his grey whiskers trembling in panic. “Everyone calm down!!” And then everything went black.

And so it begins…
