The Hungry Dark- Chapter 1 By Swamp Guy

Sean watched the placid surface of the lake. A Megalodon fin breached the surface. Behind him, the jungle was quiet. The entrance to the Aberration Cave was nearby. A lone ichthyornis circled overhead, swooping down to catch Coelacanths.

Nightshade, Sean’s Deinonychus, stood, tail waving in the slight breeze. Since the Alpha Tribe, known as the Darklords, had sieged and destroyed Sean’s tribe, Sean and Nightshade had been on their own.

Sean patted Nightshade’s Purple-feathered head. She was the first mount Sean had ever tamed. Stealing the egg had been, well, very hard, but when Nightshade’s purple head peeked out from the egg, Sean knew it was worth it.

“Target located” A man whispered in the bushes. His mantis was right behind him.

“Affirmative.” Another man said from about ten feet off. The second man loaded a machined sniper and lined up to shoot.

“Don’t even think about it.” Sean snarled. “No Darklords soldier will ever tangle with me and survive.”

“It’s you and your pet versus me, my friend here, our guns, and a mantis! What can you do?”

“You obviously have never seen a Deinonychus.” Sean laughed.

Everyone tensed, wating.

The second man took his shot.
