Tips & Strategies

What are tips for tapejara? Tips and strategies for tapejara in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
So annoying to tame. Once you notice it, it notices you and just dips.
Need to train my bola training because I miss everytime (and it loves to hang above the water because it wants drown once you drug it. fun.)
These guys are a tricky bunch. They’re the pterosaur equivalent of butterflies: they’re pretty to look at, come in a variety of colors, and are friendly towards nearby wild dinos but DEATHLY AFRAID of us silly hoomans. Therefore, there is some amount of preparation to be taken when taming one, especially depending on where it is.
Now, you may think you can tame them without the ghillie suit, and it is possible. However, the timing on throwing the bola at that point becomes EXTREMELY STRICT. If you’re even a half-second incorrect in the timing of your throw, or if your throw is even slightly awkward, then you can just go ahead and say “Bye-bye!” to that taming opportunity in particular unless you have another flyer you can use to knock it back out of the sky, and even then you’ll find that landing your shots during the chase is especially difficult, not to mention lacking a flyer is exactly why you’d even want to flock to these guys in the first place.
Therefore, while not an absolute requirement, the ghillie suit is still preferrable when going after these guys. It may be a pain to go to the snow region initially and have to race back out of there before you die to the cold or to a wolfpack, but considering the pursuits for the Obelisks, I’d say eventually setting foot over there is something of a rite of passage anyway.
If you see one BOLA IT IMEDIATELY then stuff meat in it’s inventory
If you spot one keep your distance and wait till it lands hop in your gilly and creep like seal team 6 bola from the back and trank with whatever you got. I surrounded mine with spike straps, then starved till you can see the bone on his food meeter while your waiting for that try and get all the best meat 🍖 you can find. Then enjoy the wind in your beard. Named mine Hawk happy hunting folks.
I play on a non-dedicated server with my family. I decided to tame a Tapejara because they have a special saddle that has 2 passenger seats. If you’re playing on a server with friends I would highly recommend getting a Tapejara. If your playing single player, I would just go for an Argentavis.
In order to tame one just use a rare flower near it and it will aggro on you while it aggros on you just bola it and then pump it full with tranqs
The thing about tapes is that when you try to find ‘‘em they aren’t there and when you don’t have the stuff there right in front of you and when you go get stuff pooph
Don’t try to chase it just waste time it’s to fast.
Interesting bird. It can hold three people: driver and two passengers. The two passengers face opposite directions (front and back) and can shoot ranged weapons. It can land on the side but of a cliff or even on ceilings. While perched on the side of a cliff, the Tapejara will recover stamina, but much slower than normal. It can also strafe, which can be useful for centering a shot for your passengers.
Speed: This is bird is real slow. Argys are faster.
Pickup: Similar pickup ability to the Pteranodon.
Weight: Very good weight. We use it in our metal runs until we get an Argy.
Combat: Nothing special. Maybe similar to a Pteranodon.
Stamina: Good. You can be up in the air a long time, but travel similar distances to a Pteranodon before landing due to speed.
This bird makes taming creatures easier since you can easily fire on the target with a passenger. You can avoid taming boxes for many tames.
If you try to bola the Tapejara but miss, it’ll fly into the skies... and will stay in the skies! Bring Rare Flowers before trying to tame one just in case.
The way I tame Tapejaras is I bola it, and then I build a row of 5 Dino Gateways with gaps in between over the Tapejara, and then I close off the entrances with Dino Gates. Then, I’ll tranq it out.
If I miss the bola and the Tapejara takes off, then I’ll build the trap anyways, and leave the doors open. Then, I’ll fly up to the Tapejara, eat a rare flower, and lure the now aggressive Tapejara into the trap. I’ll dismount my flier (and leave my flier in the trap), quickly exit the trap and close the doors, and then wait for the Tapejara to stop attacking my mount. Then I’ll knock out the Tapejara.
These are the easiest methods I know of to tame a Tapejara. I hope this helps!
You would think they would wake up extremely fast due to their skittish nature and excellent speed but NO, a level 30 takes 45 minutes to wake up, like wtf Wildcard Studios?
Get a scorpion
Ride the scorpion up to the tape when it’s landed
The tape won’t fly away and you can get bolas out on a scorpion
Hit the tape with bolas then arrows/darts
Put prime meat in
Enjoy your new Tapejara
