The Great War of the Biomes (the Prologue to Overseer)

Chapter 1

“Eclipse! Haven’t you heard that all Royal guards are supposed to be reported in the announcement hall?!” Eclipse just nodded. He joined the Royal Guards when he was 8 because he was an orphan, and technically there was nowhere else for him to go. He got up from his seat and followed his friend, Galaxy. Most of the Royal Guards were either rude or mean, but Galaxy was different. “Now, you may be wondering why are you guys even here in the first place.” His Commander-in-Chief said. Eclipse did wonder why, ‘is it because of our armor or something?’ Eclipsed wondered.

“Queen Comet is having a special guest coming today. I want every single one of you in the position I have assigned you.” He continued. “You guys are now dismissed, go to your position lads.” Eclipse Commander-in-Chief said. His name was actually Esickle. “Great, gotta spend a whole day standing.” Galaxy said as he walked alongside Eclipse. “Who do you think is coming today?” Eclipse asked as he went to the royal mess. “Hopefully not those idiot stumbags.” Galaxy replied grumpily. “You mean the Rockdrakes?” Eclipse corrected. “You guessed it.” He replied.

“Prince Sky, we are most honored for you joining us for dinner today.” Queen Comet said. Eclipse stood right next to her seat, his spear at the ready for anything dangerous. “Yes yes… Now the deal we had?” Prince sky said as he ate a turkey leg. “Oh yes. Eclipse?” Queen Comet replied. Eclipse walked over to the Rockdrake and gave him the box that Esickle told him to. “Alright, glad doing business with you.” Prince Sky said with pleasure. “Excuse me for a second.” One of his friends said. “Yes, no problem.” Queen Comet replied. Eclipse felt something was wrong, the Rockdrake was nowhere to be seen. “Queen Comet!” Eclipse exclaimed, but it was too late. The Rockdrake was secretly behind her the whole time. The murderer quickly stabbed her in the neck, her body came tumbling out of the chair. “NO!” Eclipse shouted as he lunged for the Rockdrake, but it was too late. He and Prince Sky were gone.

“Eclipse, by the order of the new Queen, Stargazer, you are being sent to the frontlines as a radio operator.” Esickle said with the Queen next to him. “B-but what about-” “The Queen has decided! You had failed your job, get your stuff.” Esickle said firmly. Eclipse bowed to the Queen and left the room. “What happened in there?!” His friend Galaxy asked. “I’m being sent to the frontlines.” Eclipse replied sadly as he headed for his room.

“Wait, so does that mean…” Galaxy hesitated. Eclipse nodded. His life as a Royal Guard was done, and now he’s a soldier, a regular plain soldier being sent to his death. But Eclipse felt guilty for what happened to the Queen, it was his fault she had been murdered. “Galaxy.” Eclipse said, turning around. Galaxy looked at him. “Yes?” “Thank you for being my friend.” Eclipse said. “You too, bud.” Galaxy replied.

Eclipse then left his room, with nothing to say.
