Chapter 28
The journey back into the Gigantipichus base wasn’t easy. If their map was right, they still had a long way to go. Fuzzball had never actually seen a map that covers the whole land, only the snow biome. On the upper left was a large blank space of land, which was labeled ‘Flatlands ‘.
He could see right under it a large swamp, covering a small portion of the map but hard to miss. The Redwoods was all the way in the bottom of the map, with the vast ocean surrounding it, with only a small amount of land to get from the mainland to the Redwoods. It was big enough to have at least, to Fuzzball’s calculation, able to fit fifty Spinosaurus in rows.
Fuzzball has already located where they were, which was on the upper right side of the map, where the snow biome once glittered from a far distance, now is in the deep seas. The thought made Fuzzball’s stomach twist and turn, remembering how he had lost all of those he knew.
But not all of them. Scar might be able to help them out, after all they’ve met each other in the beginning of his mission and had helped each other out (mostly it was Scar).
Fuzzball looked up at the dark cool sky, the star shimmered and danced around Fuzzball. The silence gave Fuzzball a chance to be calm and think properly, not until Sand interrupted the silence.
“How long till we get there?”
Fuzzball quickly took out his map and pointed at where they were. “At least a few more hours.” Fuzzball cringed, he was afraid Sand was gonna argue and desert from this journey.
“Can’t we at least camp somewhere? I don’t like traveling at night, plus I’m getting tired.” It was true, Fuzzball could sense that their travel had slowed by a significant amount, even a passing deer went faster than them.
“I suppose, let’s find someone with a good lair.”
It took a while for the two to find a good place to settle down, finally they decided to stay at a small rocky area near the ocean. Sand was snoring loudly, already dozed off hours ago. Fuzzball got up from his leaf bed and trotted to the beach, he sat down and threw some river rocks into the ocean.
Ever since that dream-or reality thing, things have never been the same. If they were in a simulation that means, they can never die. He looked up at the sky, the dark sky-wait no-according to the dream it was a fake sky, meant for the simulation.
Fuzzball looked back at where the snow biome once appeared. He could see tiny shimmers of snow reflecting back to him, the island had not sunk fully yet. Suddenly a low rumble growled through the floor, the low rumble became bigger and bigger until a palm tree fell over Sand.
“What in the bloody oasis-” Sand started to get up angrily. Fuzzball however, saw a large explosion in the far distance on the top of the snow biome. A large avalanche surrounded the island making it unseeable.
“Sand look!” Sand looked at where Fuzzball was pointing at, and he indeed became silent with shock.
“Oh that ruddy island, probably the whole thing has lost its balance and probably-”
“Shut up! Shut your big mouth!” Fuzzball yelled as he turned to face him, annoyed by how Sand was talking. That caused him to stop talking again, but not with shock this time, Sand stuttered for a moment and pointed at the ocean.
“W-why is the water decreasing? Isn’t it supposed to be rising?” Fuzzball looked at the ocean, to his astonishment the sea level had lowered greatly, a few marine mammals had been stranded on the sea.
A large bang exploded far behind them, causing a shockwave in the floor.
“What’s going on?!” Fuzzball panicked, he had never experienced this before. Was it because an island has sunk? Or was it just a coincidence?
“Fuzzball look out!” Sand yelled as he pushed Fuzzball away from him. A large palm tree landed on the beach with a loud thud, causing dusts of sand flying everywhere. But it wasn’t over yet.
The horrible disaster didn’t stop coming, more and more trees started to fall, even worse Fuzzball could see a huge wave approaching the beach.
“Sand! Run, run!” They both started running into the woods then into the jungle, trying to dodge falling objects. Sand unfortunately was caught under a large oak tree, unable to get up.
“Fuzzball! Help me! Over here!” Sand cried as he tried to push the oak tree up. To Fuzzball’s horror, the wave was a tsunami, he could hear the water splashing against objects, so loud until they had to yell at each other to hear them.
“What do we do Fuzzball! Help me! I don’t want to drown.” Sand begged and tried to push the oak tree again. Soon fear filled up inside Fuzzball’s bodies, he could sense their doom.
