The rafts were moving in position to form a barrier on the ocean. The strategy was to trap Grant and to move in on his fortress from all sides. Bret had read the list of soldiers to be the reinforcements for the soldiers in the west that morning. Alex had been one of the soldiers requested.

“See Alex, I told you you would see Mom and Dad again.”

“But what about you?”

“I’ll be fine. I need to stay here until you guys get past Viking Bay. Then, when all this is finally over, I’ll see you all again.”

She was more trying to convince herself. She had a strange feeling that she would never see her parents again. She just hoped Alex would see them. As the raft began its long journey, Jennifer watched until it disappeared. Now everyone in the highlands just had to sit and wait until the west was taken.
