I took my level 500 direbear to the hunters cave and easily tamed my dung beetle he is now my best farmer (of making fertilizer) PS:dont tell compost bin i said that.
You can grab Wild Dung Bettles using a Grappling Hook and bring them to a safer place to tame, even on PVE. Works Great on Skull Cave on The Center and probably on caves too.
It is possible for your dung beetle to crawl on a lit forge, which will kill it! So keep it away from any forges if possible.
Introducing the New Dung beetle!
Compost bins hate them!
How to raise a good dung beetle remake
1. Locate the dung beetle. They are found in the chitin cave or the south cave on the island, at the edges of the map for where the death worms are for scorched earth, in the city for extinction, (sorry idk where they are on valgero or crystal isle), they are everywhere except for the green area in aberration
2. (Optional) locate is dossier for a good explanation on what it’s good for
3. Once you reach your new Friend. They might be surrounded by danger so kill of the other creatures or where bug repellent to slip buy
4. They can be tamed using feces, spoiled meat, and raw meat. Feces should be up to medium.
5 tip for low levels: tame low level dung beetle they take a long time to eat so the lower are the less food they need
6. Dont hit them or they will get mad and gore you with there horn, but they are slow
7. They eat spoiled meat not poop
8. They are a passive tame so just go up to them and feed them some food.
9. Tame more than 1 so your beetle doesn’t get lonely
10. Pick him up and hug him give him some love he is very important for food
11. They turn poop into fertilizer and/or oil if ur an American just by saying that you may already have 10.
12. Dispite that horn they aren’t very strong protect them or level them up to be stronger
13. If your interest is there utility role then just level up weight so they can carry more poop
Have fun with your new friend. Phew that was long
You can find them in the desmodus cave on fjourdor
I am unsure why people say “Use spoiled meat”. My friend told me to but I brought Large animal Feces (keep in mind, I’m in mobile so it says what it wants from your inventory. Usually the BEST food for that one) and it wanted the dung. It tamed in 2 pieces. Don’t need to up.
Couldn’t find them anywhere except in the lava island cave on the centre. (Single player on ps5) took two poops to tame!
Just feed it poop you don’t have to knock it out.
If you have a tribe mate have one of you pick up the wild beetle with a large bird, such as an argent, the you can tame the beetle in its talons without it roaming around
While spoiled meat seems the easy way to go for taming, if you want to be more effective, poop is the way… easy way to get a load of fresh excrement for your beetle ? Just take a tame with you… and feed them lots of stimberries ! At the cost of your pets intestines, they shall have a new friend soon :)
They can't eat massive animal feces for some reason
How to Tame a dung Beetle:
-go to the lower south cave and take a good Tame for protecting yourself and Try to find One.
- After you find it, take enough poop to Tame it and Feed it passively.
And you got yourself a Beetle :0
Utility: the Beetle is a better version of the composting Bin, just put any type of Poop (i prefer large Poop) and send it wandering then it will create fertilizer and oil anytime soon
Thanks for Reading.

Center: in caves
Island: in caves / carno island
Scorched: in the dunes
When taming you can use a grappling hook to bring them to a safe place.
Crawl up and feed it poop, but don't stand up, because they see you and attack. So crawl up, feed, crawl back. Keep doing this and soon it will be tamed.
On mobile you can kill one take its implant and revive it to tame safely
(Do not harvest body until after grabbing implant)
I just used bug repellent and I tamed the dung beetle easy using spoiled meat and just walked out of the cave with holding the dung beetle then flew away on my Argie back home. I called him horn and he lives in a nice home.
Best way to tame these guys is get as much rotten meat as possible and go find em, once found, try to take out all nearby bad animals and start feedin’. Up if u thought this was useful. ;)
This may not work for everyone, but it works for me. I took a saber down in the Central Cave (maxed at lvl 190 so not a good one at all), I ran past all the creatures that were hostile until I came across a dung beetle, once I found one, I killed any creatures that followed me/ are with the beetle, you don't need an amazing tame to kill these creatures, once isolated from all dangers, feed large animal feces until fully tamed, what I did was collect feces from my T-Rex'S (I only have 4 and it took about 5 minutes to get 10 large feces) hope this helps!
You can’t feed beetles titanosaur poop. So best is diplo or bronto poop. Go in a cave with bug repellent and a raptor (a strong one). You can go to the hunter’s cave because it is the easiest cave and megalosaurus won’t spawn there nor will centipedes spawn a lot in the there. If you are far away, bring Argentavis to carry the raptor and pick up the beetle yourself. If your lvl is too low well I guess you’re gonna need to travel all the way back on raptor-back. Again.
