When I was exploring the artifact of the clever. I met this little guy halfway through I decided to tame the beetle with spoiled meat. After a while, he was tamed and I called him companion but that was short lived as I was attacked by a swarm of spiders, scorpions, and iballisks and companion was trying to kill them, you can already guess what happened...
Make a separate building for the beetle. It wanders around, and can be quite annoying, as it's usually in the doorway. Put it near your greenhouse, or somewhere easily accessible to encourage your tribe to keep it loaded with poo.
If taming without access to an argent or larger flying creature, you can use a raft and keep carnivores from aggro-ing the beetle by carrying it while driving the raft, both you and the beetle will be safe no matter how near to shore you wind up (useful for traversing black sand river on the island map)
Personally I have found the easiest way to tame a dung beetle is to lie down and crawl up to it. Make sure you stay on the ground once you are near, otherwise they get angry and attack if you stand up!
You must have beetle on wandering to produce fertilizer and oil . Beetles have N/A by gender and are not breedable . Only increase weight so you can hold more poop. I placed beetle in my room inside my fort and set in on wander since it's not a huge open space it produces resources without moving which I have no complaints . Beetles also eat Spoiled meat and I let beetle eat from feeding trough in order to use all its inventory for poop.
I saw around 3-4in the cave containing the artefact of the clever. Just clear out the cave with wolf/saber, tame the beetles. Have a friend with a quetz outside with a base with enough cages for each beetle. This can also be done with Arventagis with riders. Pick up beetles. Only problem is that u need around 6 people this way and I don’t think that arventagis can pick up dung beetles am checking this after.- also either have fridges or wood fridges for the dung on quetz so it doesn’t spoil
A rather simple non-violent tame. All you need is a phioma and feed it stimberries, clear out the cave, or even run in, bring some of the stuff out, kill them, and repeat until you won't be bothered. Just sit next to it and feed it medium feces. In my experience they don't move at all, so that probably won't be a problem. Don't get to close expecially with tames, as they will aggro on you. Just level weight and you should be good. Make sure to keep this little guy safe, expecially if you are far from a cave.
