Taming & KO Tips
How do I tame a dung beetle? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a dung beetle.
GEN 2 location
Area around 82 lat and 25 long
These are passive tames meaning you tame them while awake. They are very easy to tame. You can just feed it poop or you can pick it up with a argentavis and put in a box.
Just feed it poop. It’s not that hard
If you hit them they won’t start running away. They will run at you and take out there anger by smacking you with its horn. And ima just say it they hit you.... it’s gonna hurt.
Carryable by Kaprosuchus as of May 2020. (Not sure if they were before; Dododex says they are not)
Make a separate building for the beetle. It wanders around, and can be quite annoying, as it's usually in the doorway. Put it near your greenhouse, or somewhere easily accessible to encourage your tribe to keep it loaded with poo.
If you enter cave riding an Araneo or Arthropluera that was cave-tamed, you can ride up and tame without any creature going agro. Load soothing balm and spoiled meat in your hot bar for an easy passive tame, and no rush to finish like like using ghuillie armor and insect repellant.
They are passive tames. I always pick them up with my Argy and take them to my base and drop into a taming pen or at least somewhere safe on the map (whichever is closer). I’ve always used spoiled meat to tame and it doesn’t take much time at all.
So to tame one go to a lower south cave get spoiled meat and passive feed them and kill everything except dung beetles in the area
How to use them they are used to make fertilizer and oil put poop in inventory and build a box for it get it in the box put it on wonder and boom fertilizer and oil they sometimes prouduce oil
DO NOT USE MEAT! If you use meat, it will take a very long time! Try using feces instead, as weird as it may sound, use medium. This can be acquired from brontos, paras, trikes, etc. Medium is fastest to tame. In the higher levels it might take a lot more than large, but in the lower levels it will take really close to large, if not the same amount!
For mobile and PC both ARK
Just tame a dire wolf or saber tooth
Head to lower south cave (hunter cave ) or swamp cave (immune cave )
Kill all the creatures (except dung beetle[s])
Feed it spoiled meat ( but animal faces is more preferred) (don’t use massive animal feces)
Once tamed carry it and ride your dino
Safely reach your base

Picked up the dung beetle with my Arg and flew to a safe bldg and dropped the beetle into the bldg. Walked behind it to feed it as it requested. Took 3 med fees or 2 LG feeses for lol 260 beetle
I always look for these in upper south cave. I always find them long before I run in to any aggressive creatures in the cave. Cannot say the same about the lower south cave.
Get yourself a full ghille suit, load up with large feces and go hunting with your Argy. Tame two at a time, pickup one and mount up then grab the second in Argy talons. Safe flight home
Do they Attack or not? Someone plz answer
An easy tame if you have poop/rotten meat! I got two well leveling up in the bog today and they have very pretty colors so if you carry meat or pick up random poop and have something to KO them with then I suggest taming one!
They take forever to be hungry again so use bigger poops
If you have a farm set up and have a phiomia, just use stimberries to feed phiomia and get poop. If you aren't ready for south cave than you can use phiomia poop rather than fertilizer and bypass the beetle for a bit. As soon as you get a good barry, you should tame a dung beetle. You should tame lots of low levels because high levels take forever to tame. Up if this was helpful.
This sort of falls under two categories. Taming and utility. Dung beetles are a great early game tame to have, and great for mid and even late game as well. If you have a diplo, bronto, or even a spino, feed them a couple stacks of stim berries, and put their poop in their inventory so it don’t spoil. (My base is a decent treck from all the caves, but I tend to store all the turd in my argi.) The quickest way to tame a dung beetle is using large animal dung. You should only need 2…. Best to bring a third one just in case.
The best thing about the dung beetle is, when set to wander in a 8x8 foundation area (it must be 8x8 or larger. I’ve tried smaller enclosures for them, they glitch through the wall and despawn. Lost a few dung beetles to them glitching through walls and despawning) and with inventory filled with small dung, it will produce oil and fertilizer passively for you. So you can leave the dung beetle to do it’s thing, while your out building, gathering, taming, etc. but the best thing is when you leave a dung beetle to do it’s thing while your out gathering oil in the snowy area. It’s basically adding on to your oil supply.
Please note that the dung beetle inventory weight isn’t much thus you want to increase it as much as possible. And it is best to use small animal dung and human dung to fill it’s inventory to make most of its limited capacity and to get the biggest return for the amount of dung you put in.
To the person who lets us all know about the spino trick, thank you and if you drain an argys stam, it will double, but not naturally, unlike the spino
