Tips & Strategies

What are tips for direwolf? Tips and strategies for direwolf in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
The first time I saw dire wolfs I feel in love started breeding know up to 13 thousand health and 680 melee she's a absolute beast not even a wild 150 Rex stands a chance and there great for leach blood and getting prime this animal is my favorite tame in the game
I found a 135 that was better than my 150 breed and tamed wolves so level doesnt mean much
Build a 2x2 wood foundation, put two door frames (and doors) on opposite sides, surround with 2 high wood walls, and make ramps to the top. Grab an Argy with saddle, pick up, and drop in your 'Tameing Box'. Then walk to top and tranq as it can't run, attack you, or destroy the box. Use the doors to get in and out, two just in case it blocks one. How i tamed all of mine.
Never ever tame a145 unprepared you'll know what it's like staring in the gates of hell we tried taking it back died to allos never again will I tame a wolf sabertooth in my opinion is much better and much easier
One of the best tames to have
If you find yourself taming a direwolf, you just made your life on ARK just that much easier, they are great at harvesting almost anything from bodies, make sure to get a pack of these to defend your base or to farm resources, a mate boosted pack is a very strong way to clear almost any Dino.
Always use the bola when taming it turns a very dangerous tame into a fairly easy one.if there is a pack you can attempt to lead one off by itself but only after the pack has killed everything and they start to spread out I have a pack of 11 wolves. There very deadly even to rexs a enemy tribe attempted to attack while I was away from base and I came at them from the woods when team mates stared firing flares the pack killed 2 rexs at level 103 and 98. I only last one wolf. They really are a great ride.
Pick up with RG,drop in safe place, bola knock out and voila
Fireworks do not need a saddle to ride
I don’t really like the winter biome because of its bs but we I went there I wanted a Mammoth and while taming it a pack of wolf ate it and I Tamed them all. Don’t know if this a win or a lose but all I say is they are great for caves, hunting, and traveling so I highly recommend to get one male and one female to Breed.
One time on SE I was playing and I found 2 Direwolves so I went up to one with my boomerang it was level 20 and I accidentally killed it while trying to knock it out,yet the other one was level 1 and I onocked it out and killed it by accident as well
Moral of the Story:Boomerangs can kill direwolves at melee distance
I would have a few bolas and tranq arrows or build a small taming pen and drop one with an argent if you want a pack of them
For pve, kill all direwolfs around the one you want to tame or tame them in packs for a pack boost. Get someone to pick you up with argy do you can shoot them with tranq arrows. Use argy do you can take it back to your base when done taking.
Kind of useless now. The saber gathers more Meat, Hide, and Pelt so the direwolf is now obsolete.
I might be a bit crazy, but I feel that they're so useless, compared to other carnivores (mainly because, on mobile, I don't have the snif hability) ;
Way more difficult to tame one, because they're spawning in groups, so everything would agro on you, plus the fact they'd spawn around Rex's and on coldest area ever makes them pretty late tames, so the saddle point is just useless, even more, it just weaker he wolf (almost as good as raptor, with the jumped attack in less)
Due to it's size slightly bigger than smilodon's, it better to get the big cat on cave (and stats are really comparable, so with few breeding skills, you would easily get a sabertooth as strong as the wolf, even considering the hat)
Last point, I have to agree that the hat increase it resistance, on fights
But after few fights, you would need to repair the helmet, witch would consume a huge parts, in your ressources, the exact same ressources that you'd get the wolf to farm, while other tames would not get this inconvenient
So, considering all of this, sabertooth is by far better than wolf (great farmer for everything like hide, chitin, and keratin, but doesn't imply to repair the only protection it got
So doesn't wast the ressources farmed from fights
To survive in the tundra you need to either have lots of campfires or have the certain armour (I can’t remember it’s name) made out of pelt. However pelt is hard to get so I recommend making a boat and stacking it with campfires and plenty of wood. Also stock it up with food and other spare resources and arrows (or bullets). Approach the island from the water and went you start freezing turn on the campfires. Find a safe place to get close to shore and start killing mammoths and other creatures there. As soon as you can I would recommend making the pelt armour and then you can turn off the fires. You can also bring some tames along with you to help. Once you find a pack of wolves I would try to kill the lower level ones and keep the higher level ones. If only one of them is a high level then knock it out and tame it. Then find another pack with a high level of the opposite gender. After taming that one I would bring both wolves back to your boat and go back to your base. Now you can breed the wolves as much as you like to get more wolves.
Direwolves don’t require a saddle to ride so taming one is an extremely good investment. Not to mention that they don’t lay eggs and they immediately give birth to baby making it easy to breed them which I would definitely recommend since getting your own pack of them is extremely powerful.
