What are tips for deinonychus? Tips and strategies for deinonychus in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Located in the south west portion of the map on a higher plateau. You will find their nests and many adults running around. Just use a flyer since they cant fly. Once grown up they can be bred
Get a flyer like a Pteranodon or an Argentavis and fly close to the Deinonychus guarding the eggs so that they start running towards you (try not to get hit). Lure them off a cliff or just a few meters away. Fly back to the nests (make sure they don't follow you back), get all the eggs.
Usually if they're a few meters away they will either not notice you stealing eggs or they won't be fast enough to get to you. You don't need to get a bait or anything like that.
If you’re hatching these bad boys on Fjordur, be prepared to spend a lot more standing torches than you think you’ll need. The cold on Frojdur is crazy, and these guys want a LOT of heat. - KD
My tip is short. They spawn in chalk hills biome.
For getting their eggs, just use a spy glass to locate some high level deinonychus roaming around. Then find nearby nests and check the eggs to see if they are good levels. Use a fast fly like a pteranodon or another flyer, argy etc. if it’s a good level just yoink it while the parents are away or just swoop in a grab it if your feeling risky. For hatching just use lots of campfires or torches to incubate and have lots of food when it wakes up(it will be starving) stay by egg when incubating so it doesn’t die while you are away. After that just imprint it and do the tasks as it says. Then boom, jumpy raptor👍
Use argy carrying tribemate with whip. With a little practice you will have no problems.
I have 3 deinonychus. Dakota, Harpi, and Gray. They are soooooooo amazing. With the three of them we can take out almost anything in my area! But… not everything. Up to tame a army
Once an alpha has been appointed by having 2 or more Deinonychus together, the Roar ability will be usable.
Using the Roar ability will cause the alpha to do a screeching roar which is imitated by the other Deinonychus, giving them 50% increased damage as well as reducing the damage they take to around 60% instead of the full amount of damage delivered.
Definitely a dino worth your time and effort, you can snatch the eggs super early game with a lymantria by luring and cropdusting the parents, and they can be bred for boss battles and PvP.
A few tips:
-No fall damage
-Pounce range and direction is determined by what you're aiming at with your mouse, imagine an invisible crosshair in the middle of your screen. -The pounce goes a lot further than you think, they can latch onto hovering Manticore, as their vertical wall leap (once latched) is 5-6 walls.
-They can still pounce/wall climb when overencumbered, with the same range/mobility, so you can just hop home with all that metal ore you're carrying.
-A fang symbol will appear on pouncable targets, you just have to press Jump once and watch your Deino turn into a raptor sized homing leech missile. For some reason argies are no problem, but YutyS are unpouncable.
-You will need to target Hp, StaM and dmg
If you are alone, ride a pteranodon. This is because they cannot latch onto a pteranodon, but they can latch onto an argentavis. Lead the deinonychuses away from the nest and into a group of brontosauruses. Agro the brontos and make them hit the deinonychuses, and then watch carnage ensue. Rinse and repeat until the deinonychuses have all died, make sure brontos aren't agroed and then safely snatch the eggs from the nests. Using a whip is an optional choice to make things run smoother and faster. After this process, go somewhere else for a few minutes and come back to do it again. With very little practice, this can be a very effective method.
If there are no brontos in the area, use the pteranodon as a weapon. Swoop in and twirl into the deinonychuses until they die. WATCH OUT for raptors. They WILL dismount you in a heartbeat, whether they were targetting you beforehand or not. After the deinonychuses are dead, swoop in and snatch the eggs before leaving and repeating the process.
This is the easiest way to tame:
1. Grab you a flyer (you may want one with good speed so a deinonychus can’t latch onto you while your flying away)
2. Find a deinonychus nest
3. Check and make sure there are no deinonychus around if so try to lead them away with bait (or just be a man and run really fast)
4. Land and grab the egg QUICKLY and fly away. You will have to move fast because deinonychus are territorial.
5. Get around 10-15 standing torches or 5 campfires and place them into a circular position. Then place the egg in the middle.
6. Wait 30 minutes and voila you have a baby deinonychus. They shouldn’t take to long to grow.
Yours truly— a beach bob
For all I know they are only found in the white cliffs in packs. There is a set of ruins with bridges. The nests that I know of are near the bridges guarded by rock elementals as well as the new fluffy raptor
Just take a pteradon. Come to the nest. Grab the egg and fast fly away. Easy
Eggs are super easy to snag on multiplayer. Picked up my buddy with a Pteranodon and we flew around some ravines. Spotted a nest, made sure the coast was clear, dropped him into it and he picked up the egg, and I picked him up and flew off. Did this 5 times with no trouble. This is definitely doable on single player as well; just be extra careful and quicker.
Was able to fully imprint a lvl 120 🕺
The eggs need about 13-15 standing torches for it to be warm enough for them to incubate. Don’t stand near them for too long and watch the egg incubate unless you’re wearing ghille or have decent fortitude because you will overheat and die.

Best to look for the eggs at night because then you can see the red glow of the fertilized egg.
