To knock out this creature you can use a flying creature to reach a tall stone or hill that it won't be able to climb then shot it with your tranqs, if and when it suits spikes at you move back slightly to dodge them. Good luck.

These guys can easily be killed when you are trying to tame it with a normal crossbow. Of course space the shots out by 5 seconds. Whether they are in a taming pen or I am tranqing them while riding another tame it doesn't hurt to kill a wild creature and make it attack you will standing over the creature it should eat it and heal up making the tame process less worrisome.

Awe look at the cute lizard! Next thing you know is it's ripping you to shreds the last thing I saw was the cute face...

How to tame:

Find one ( in cliff area of desert )

Shoot it with tranqs and dodge quills ( use a boomerang on low levels, so u don’t kill it)

Repeat this until it’s knocked out

Clear area of dangers and feed ( raw meat works but raw mutton is 100x better)

Voila! Now name it Spikey

To get one find one with a baby then kill the mother with a bow or spears. That’s how I got my level 50 fully imprinted one

Plant species Y, hide behind big rocks, shocking tranq, feed regular kibble. Done.

Thorny Dragon eggs no longer works for kibble ingredients, for some odd reason.

Super cute, they eat raw meat(I thought they just ate berries and were a passive tame) don’t approach them they will throw their quills on their tails at you(learned that the hard way) they make noises that will make you think your going crazy, but tranq them an then you have a thorny baby

If your play scorched earth and you see one follow these 3 steps to survive first they are like the troodon in day it takes around 8 to 12 seconds to aggro and has a small Aggro range which means you can run right pass them. Next if you want to tame them at a starter level around 12-21 climb on a rock that you have to jump on like do parcore

Tame one they are so cute like a big bearded dragon

They have about theri aggro range and their first attack is pretty much always spikes so use this to your advantage. Pump up stamina, health and damage for the best thorny dragon. Also drink a stimulant or take stimberrys just to be safe. Their also quite slow but still proceed with caution cus once your knocked out your dead.

When I was playing I got scared of taming this guy because they always killed me constantly but then I got on a rock and tranqed him and finally got him don’t be afraid to take this guy

The thorny dragon can be rather a pain to tame as it throws quills at you and the quills end up poisoning you. So I found it easiest to build a 6 by 6 trap 4 walls high all the way around and place a ceiling to stand on so you can look down on it.. you can then use an argy to go pick one up and drop it down into your trap.. once their trapped they can’t whip their tail around anymore so you now have the full advantage… it will poison your argy on the way to the trap so make sure that your trap ain’t to far it doesn’t do much damage to your Argy as long as your quick

Use a chain bola and then shoot it from a distance with traq darts

Surround It With Pillars So When It Shoots The Thorns It Is Less Likely To Hit you

It's a simple KO tame, the Thorny Dragon will shoot its needles at you in all directions, the needles deal damage and will make your torpidity go up.

They're commonly are in a group of 2 so you have to kill one or knock both.

Traps are not needed if your fast enough or on a cliff next to the dragon(s).

Boomerang + Regular Kibble

If you’re in a terrain where you can have the high ground you’ll only need an argy.

1: Lore them closer to the rock/cliff you’re standing on and set your argy to passive.

2: Start firing tranqs until they’re knocked out.(their spikes don’t do much damage or torpor so it’s okay if you get hit a few times).

3: use the Argy to kill large creatures and gather prime meat/or use kibble if you have it.

4: Pick up your new Thorny Dragon with the Argy and fly it back to your base.

I just got it to follow me, netted it and used tranq darts to knock it out. It went out pretty fast but took quite a few minutes to tame.
