The Red Pike, season two
The Red Pike, season two
Kenya’s story (by HaziHeeler)
Part one
‘Careful. Stay quiet. Don’t make a sound. They’ll find you. They’ll kill you.’
Kenya didn’t really think all of that was true. But that’s what Cyber said, and according to her, she was literally absolutely ALWAYS right. But still, Kenya stayed out of sight of the two humans who were running around below the ledge he was crouched on. He peered over the edge of the ledge, down into the pretty-much-dry riverbed. Only a small trickle of water still ran through.
Kenya couldn’t exactly be bitter towards Cyber for warning him about the humans. She’d been around much longer then him, and he’d seen the way that humans shoot creatures with their weapons, for whatever reason they did that.
The humans stood in the middle of the used-to-be river, talking. Kenya had gotten pretty good at interpreting human chatter, so he could understand most of their conversation.
Kenya shuffled along the ledge, ducking behind a large boulder so the humans wouldn’t see him and try to attack.
He took a deep breath. “It’s not that hard,” he said to himself. “Right? Humans do it easy.”
Tensing all of his muscles, Kenya forced himself up onto his back legs and lifted his front legs off of the ground.
And he was balancing!
…For about 0.7 seconds, at least.
Kenya wobbled, flailing his arms wildly, before falling over and nearly landing on a cactus. He muffled a yelp as his long snout bonked against a rock.
He stood back on all four feet and padded back towards the ledge to watch the humans some more. But before he could reach them, a flash of light lit up the sky nearby.
‘What was that?’ Kenya thought, watching the flash of light as it hovered in the sky for a moment.
And then Kenya being Kenya, he ran in the direction of the flash of light.
