These guys are a tricky bunch. They’re the pterosaur equivalent of butterflies: they’re pretty to look at, come in a variety of colors, and are friendly towards nearby wild dinos but DEATHLY AFRAID of us silly hoomans. Therefore, there is some amount of preparation to be taken when taming one, especially depending on where it is.

Now, you may think you can tame them without the ghillie suit, and it is possible. However, the timing on throwing the bola at that point becomes EXTREMELY STRICT. If you’re even a half-second incorrect in the timing of your throw, or if your throw is even slightly awkward, then you can just go ahead and say “Bye-bye!” to that taming opportunity in particular unless you have another flyer you can use to knock it back out of the sky, and even then you’ll find that landing your shots during the chase is especially difficult, not to mention lacking a flyer is exactly why you’d even want to flock to these guys in the first place.

Therefore, while not an absolute requirement, the ghillie suit is still preferrable when going after these guys. It may be a pain to go to the snow region initially and have to race back out of there before you die to the cold or to a wolfpack, but considering the pursuits for the Obelisks, I’d say eventually setting foot over there is something of a rite of passage anyway.
