Tips & Strategies

What are tips for tapejara? Tips and strategies for tapejara in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
These dudes are amazing tames cause while slow at first they can get pretty fast with only a few levels pumped into speed. They can cling to surfaces and allow you to snipe things from a tree. They can carry three people and if solo you can whistle it to follow you and switch seats and it will hover in the air while you shoot the creatures below.(if you have them whistled to be stopped they will land though) if they run low on stamina unlike other flyers you don't have to land just switch seats for a bit and keep going. They are one of the safest ways to take out powerful creatures too. Their saddle is also gotten pretty early so you can ride them in about mid game. And finally they are a good way to tame a quetzal. Overall an amazing tame absolutely would recommend. Their only problem is their hard to find and if it sees you it will fly off to high heaven and you'll never see it again.
A good idea for knocking one out is to use the calming mist from a Pachyrhinosaurus. It won't freak out and fly away when you calm it, which gives you the opportunity to bola it and then tranq it.
Used rare flower while flying the pteradon, landed the pteradon in a safe place and dismounted..it was aggro at the other bird..then bola and tranq..easy tame.
If you're wondering "dang, why does the tapejara fly not as fast as expected, i can't even catch up to a wild tapejara. do i need less weight? lemme get rid of some items." then you're right. The tapejara loses about 55% of its movement speed when its tamed, but the game "compensates" the loss by buffing its movement speed to like 250% so that it is almost as fast as a wild tapejara, but it is exacerbated by the fact that you will usually be riding the tapejara while its weight is about 40% occupied.
I recommend you set a trap, Tapejara won't let anyone get close. (I'm Brazilian so I apologize if there's an error in English)
I don’t know if anybody else had this hard of a time while taming this thing. First and second attempts, (every attempt is a different tapejara) my bola went through it and it got spooked and flew away. Third attempt, I managed to bola it and knock it, then seconds later it got demolished by my thylacoleo as I accidentally targeted it instead of the titanoboa about to take a bite. Fourth attempt, see first and second attempt. Fifth attempt, it was bola’d and knocked, then it got eaten by a posse of dilophosaurs who got one two many hits in before I killed them all. I gave up for a while. I had convinced myself it just wasn’t meant to be. Taking one last chance I went back out to the 2 mile radius around the green obelisk. before FINALLY bola-ing one and knocking it in a peaceful area. It was a level 4 and took 3 superior kibble (all I had brought) on 2x taming speed. Ouch.
You can cheese them by going out of render after shooting them with your tranq of choice. They become calm again after going out of render so this trick makes them pretty easy. Rinse and repeat and you have yourself a tape. (Have not tested on anything besides mobile. Good luck!)
Ragebait it with a flower then tranq it before it flies away (it loses interest after a while). Useful for getting a quetz, and I think it also has potential at getting a titanosaur (with help from a friend with a rocket launcher). Also has a tech saddle. They’re a nice in between in stats and speed between an Argentavis and pteranodon
In The island map you will always find it near red obilisk
Extremely shy. Handle with care.
Bola that mf outta the sky they don’t take fall damage
They like to stay high in the sky like a quetz
if you can wait, on ark mobile you get a Journeyman tapejara saddle after completing the Thin Air pursuit, so you won’t have to wait to get the engram
When sprinting (fleeing) they’re the fastest dinosaur in ark
Easy tame my ahh rear. look at it funny and it flies away at moch 10.
