Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a snow owl? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a snow owl.
make sure you kill ALL the damn mammonths befor trying to tame them cause when its on a mammoth it wont go off it easily...so funny how they attaking but never hit 😂😂
So make sure you have it trapped before you try to tame it because it will take off and fly rampant across the whole map and lead you on a wild goose chase, this happens when it is close to being knocked out. This happened to me twice, once it lead me to a giga then flew into its mouth then the second time across the map for 30 mins. Also make sure you use tranq darts because arrows will kill them.
Make a harpoon gun and net projectiles
While trying to knock it out, make sure it isn’t too damaged as it doesn’t have too much health, trying to tame it with a crossbow could kill it. If you have a snow owl it makes it easier to tame as it can be healed by the owl (of course to tame it easier you need the creature)
Breeding with 100% imprinting, boosts the owl's speed from 100% to 220%...!
Recommended to use pteranodon or any other fast bird. Once you have spotted one, build a trap consisting of 4 gates in a line with small gaps so the snow owl can’t fly out. Place one door on the side that is farther away from the bird and leave to other one open. Then take your bird and agro the bird by flying close to it or shooting it. Once it is near the trap dismount and punch it so it attacks you and not the bird. You also wanna make sure your bird is passive for this. Then lure it into the trap and once it’s in put the door on and tranq it. You could then feed it the recommended food and once it done taming you have a snow owl.
Argy, but with a twist. They deal “true” damage, albeit low, thus not hitting anything that is wild. Only carnivores agro to it. To tame, build a 3x2 cage, make it three frames high, put a gate frame with a gate(make sure to put it on auto close and open) on the 2-wide end of it and cover the whole thing with ceilings. Then pick up one of the frames. Kite it into the cage with a ptera and fly out of the opening you’ve made. Congrats, you’ve trapped yourself an owl. Use tranq darts - they are pretty fragile.
Griffins are tamed the same way.
If you're not running a net gun don't worry. They are fast in the open but if you get them in a standard argy trap, doors closed or noy....they're a super easy tame with tranqs and they don't do too much damage while chasing you into the trap! Heat vision, healing abilty for yourself and tames, owl pellets make great fert as well as gacha food for crystals... GREAT tame to have and their saddles are also on Fjordur as well! R-Snow Owls cannot mate with ordinary snow owls by the way..
It’s a good old knockout tame, but make sure you use trap to trap it first
How much food can I leave them for 2 hours
Please 🙏 someone tell me
Ridiculously OP. Whatever it takes, get 2. A great mount, hella strong, can heal, and breeding them can be a decent source of poly or ing on most servers.
MUST make a trap for these, once they're almost knocked out they will fly away fast
Shoot it with a net projectile then trap it in a wooden cage
Turns out I was wrong. Fact checked myself and what I was able to do was heal the doed BEFORE knocking it out, which allowed me to achieve peak taming effectiveness after the rex very nearly killed it. That said, I verified I was wrong, you can't improve taming effectiveness by healing the dino with the owl AFTER it's knocked out.
However, what you CAN do, is heal something before it goes down if it's properly trapped which is still very useful. A good application of this would be rock elementals, which are notoriously difficult to knock out without taking too much damage to keep max effectiveness. If properly distracted, you can heal them with the owl before you make those last two or three cannon ball shots.
Probably one of the best flyer dinos in the game.
I'm pretty sure they have a smaller hitbox than argentavis so if you use an argy trap you might have to make it smaller.
Best kept secret in ARK:
Bring the Snow Owl for KO tames. Normally, if the dino got low on health before it went down, you'll lose a lot of taming effectiveness. However, if you use the owl's healing ability to bring the sleeping dinos HP back up *before* you start feeding it, you will not lose any taming effectiveness because of damage. Furthermore, if crap happens and something hurts the dino and drops the TE after you've already started, you can heal them, let them wake up, and start over if you're determined to tame it with max bonus levels.
Note: I tested this with a Doedicurus that was down to a silver of HP because a rex decided to attack just as I was knocking it out. I retained 100% taming effectiveness by fully healing it with the owl before feeding it any kibble to tame it. Takes a lot of the stress out of any KO tame since the heal works on all dinos, tame or wild, and even the riding survivor.
Use a net gun so many people say trap it but you can net it saving you reasorces up this so the people who have been trading them can see a better way😁
Griffins but so much better honestly
breedable
better stam
has a saddle
imprintable
it can heal other creatures
but why can't it pick small creatures up thats how owls hunt irl
Make argy trap with a roof. Aggro it and pull it away from wilds. They lose aggro FAST. Dismount n walk it into trap. KO and feed. Easiest tame ever
