Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a shadowmane? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a shadowmane.
This was one of the more difficult things I have ever tammed in Ark. The importance of stealth is huge here so here’s some items you will need!
-Fish baskets filled with higher level fish for a better tame effect. (2.5x is the best, but you can do it fairly alright with 1.1x)
-Ghillie suit
-It’s nice to have a extra hand to clear out the area around the Shadowmane this makes for an easier tame
Now how to do it (without cage).
-Crouch near 30 meters of the animal
-Place the fish in the basket in your zero slot
-Feed animal only when they are laying down (the prompt to feed will show up when you are near)
-They only lay down during short durations during the day, they are awake at night and this will cause you not to be able to feed.
-IMPORTANT: feed the animal only on its back side or butt area, never approach the front of the animal they will agro you and you tame will be brought to zero if so.
-This is where the extra hand comes in handy, having the area near the animal cleared of ANY Dino’s will cause your tame to not attack anything making it much easier to get them to lay down for the feeding.
-Continue to feed whilst they lay down, being very stealthy, and BOOM! You’ve got yourself a Shadowmane :D
most stress inducing tame across the arks, but the rewards are many
Kill whatever is nearby so it doesnt aggro and harvest their corpse. Also they are nocturnal so pnly can be tamed during day
Use net gun after they are trapped run away till music stop go back and wait for them to lay down and repeat easiest way
Bro it took me 2 years to tame one
Fish start spoiling?
I got you.
Step one: put fish into water
Step two: make more baskets
Step three: put them back in baskets
Step four: profit

Here is how I, a fairly BAD player, tamed a Shadowmane. First of all, if you want an easier time despite how much this map is said to be harder, I would pick Genesis 2 for the map due to the tek suit. If you don’t have Genesis 2 then you could use a decent flyer on Fijour, sorry if it is spelled wrong. First of all craft 4 foundations made out of adobe, stone, metal, or tek. You could use wood but it might break. Once you have crafted those foundations craft 16 walls out of the same materials listed above. Then craft around 10-20 fish baskets, just in case, I have boosted taming so idk how much you might need, levels also need to be put into account. Once you’ve done that, get as many piranhas as possible, they are easy to get since you can use your body as a barrier and easily trap them while they are distracted. Once you have them, find a shadowmane of your desire and nearby place the four foundations in a 2 by 2 placement and make two layers with the walls. Once you do this you want to agro the shadowmane and make it chase you until you’re near the trap. This is where you’ll use your tek suit or flyer. Then hover over the trap and the shadowmane will warp to you and fall into the trap. Then leave render distance and it should stop attacking your structure. All you need to do now is crouch and feed the fish very fast. No ghille needed. Note: you will need to kill any other shadowmane part of the pack. They will continually follow each other to reunite no matter how far they go unless they join a different pack. Thanks, sorry for the long message! I hope you enjoyed and I will make a message for taming reapers. -TGIB
These guys are massively overexadurated in how hard they are to tame, all you need is a set of ghillie and a couple fish above 1.4 size and you just sit next to it and follow it from a bit of a distance. If you do this you’ll have one of my personal favourite ark creatures, I was able to do this for a 120 at lvl 30 easily
Be well prepared to lose your sanity when taming these things.
Beware when using pillar trap because shadowmane can glitch inside after “night rushing” and be unable to go to sleep at next day and your tame is lost!
I tamed mine in about 30 minutes with a trap made with a 4 by 4 stone foundation floor and 2 high walls you can feed it through the wall making it an ez first tame on gen 2
When taming make sure to have a harpoon launcher and the net projectile. This will make trapping the shadowmans incredibly easy as once it's netted you just have to build the trap (usually a 4x4 of dinosaur gateways with doors) around it, this will allow you to have the shadowmane in one place while you go out and get fish, or make it very easy to sneak forward and feed it by hand.
If you're trying to tame a shadowmane, you can make a 2x2 stone foundation with 2 high walls. If you get the shadowmane into the trap, you can then feed it through the walls. If it is attacking the walls, simply leave render distance and come back and it will stoo
Make a stone 2x2 with 2 tall walls, hover over it, shadowmane tps in, go get your fish come back and you can feed it through the walls. Thank me later
Please, for the love of gos just give up taming one if it gets into an annoying area. A couple of mine just straight up trapped themselves on a mountain and in a cave, making the feeding impossible without getting detected. If you’re on fjordur, try luring them out to the yellow grass plains and use a desmo, easiest way to tame.
Salmon 1.5x Gives at least 15% Taming effect
Easiest way to tame.
Here's some tips from me - Coach Bear
Make a bunch of fish baskets and grab a ton of fish with them in a river or lake. You can put them on your hotbar.
Use a ghillie suit or cactus soup to stealth behind a sleeping shadowmane to feed it, they fall asleep at exactly 5am in game time.
They will go invisible, stay stealthed and track it on your dino taming tracker through inventory (footprint with + symbol).
Lastly, keep feeding it until it's tamed, no saddle required.
Males have a roar that buffs other dinos and females have an aura that will stealth other nearby dinos. Both can turn themselves invisible.
To tame you must have full ghillie and approach from behind by CROUCH walking and passively take them by feeding them the fish baskets. In order to find them after feeding just track them but the trick here is to make sure it doesn’t Agro or eat anything that might die or has died in the surrounding area since it will lose its taming effectiveness. Must be crouched when backing away from them as well since they can still see you after feeding and will agro if you stand or run.
Go over to eden zone a use the fish trap on the largest fish you can find (quality/ size matters, level doesnt, you may need a couple depending on how boosted your server is) then, put it in your last hot bar slot and find a shadow mane you want to tame, wait for it to curl up, it’ll look like a dog tucking it’s head into its tail, (they only do it around mid day) and when you see them curled up, crouch, run up, feed them the fish, and run away
Passive tame when they are sleeping. They require a filled fish basket to tame. Wearing ghillie stops them from noticing you.
