Journey Chapter 41
Forest, Crimson, and Nightfall told Coral about themselves while they were given a tour of her home. Coral seemed so excited to learn about them and to show them around her home. She was less distrusting of them, and more so in awe of them. She wanted to show her house was the very best place for them to be in. She seemed to be embarrassed by any messes left in her siblings’ rooms. Cleaning them up and organizing them as she went on. She treated them almost as though they were royalty. Crimson seemed to be irritated by her treatment of them. She especially didn’t like being called heroes.
Forest hadn’t gotten anything out of Nightfall since he told him that Coral was suspicious and saying something about “Element”. Forest had no idea what this Element was, what it did, or how they should react. When Forest tried to get more out of him. He seemed to tense up at the notion. “I probably should not tell you… it’d be safer for you to know less about it. Along with anyone else you might tell.” He said. Forest was quite confused about what he meant. But if it involved something that he didn’t even want people to know. Then it’d be best not to say anything about it to anyone.
Forest noticed while she did these things that she had burn marks on her wings and back. Forest wasn’t sure why that would be. Was it something to do with those weird Shadowmanes at the bottom of the ravine? It was strange.
As they left he brother’s room to continue the tour elsewhere, she looked over at Forest and asked. “Do you know why the rune split all of you apart? Do you know if this has ever happened before?”
“To answer both, no. We have no idea why it split us and we’ve never heard of this happening before.” Forest explained. “To find out any more answers, we need to find Nyx. Her kind was known to have the most knowledge about the runes and maybe she has some answers about this.” He continued. Coral nodded slightly, though she probably didn’t know who Nyx was.
“Okay, I have a few questions for you Coral if it’s okay to ask?” Crimson asked,
“You may.” Coral said nodding her head.
“Why are you named Coral?” Crimson asked. Coral scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“It comes from a stupid tradition my family has where they name their children after venomous reptiles. It seems to be a deep lineage tradition through my dad’s side. My name was chosen after the Coral Snake. My parents told me I have some of the colors of a Coral Snake.” Coral explained.
“Aren’t your colors extremely rare for a poison wyvern? Usually, your colors are green and black if I’m not mistaken.” Nightfall asked.
“Yes, how did you…” “I’ve talked to a few tamed wyvern from where I’m from.” Nightfall answered, interrupting Coral. Forest saw how easily he could give an answer that may or may not have been true to make sure details of the Order weren’t leaked to anyone else and be in potential danger.
“Oh, well the reason I have unique colors is because I was born during a special season of the year. My parents said it means something special and that I will do great things.” Coral said.
“So what’s your dad like?” Forest asked, Coral smiled.
“My dad is the best!! He’s a very caring wyvern with a love for exploring/ that’s why he became an expedition/military scout, this usually means he flies into enemy territory like the Argentavis airways or the Mantis’s hunting grounds. But right now he’s out in the desert patrolling, watching survivors and their tames. This is probably the safer option right now since the raised aggression with the Argents and Mantises.” Coral answered. Forest was confused though at this.
“Why are Mantises and Argents considered enemies to you?” Forest asked aloud, though he meant to only think it.
“The Argents are a threat to us as they feel the scar was their ancestral nesting ground, they are smaller and weaker than wyverns. But they are more nimble in the air and can easily evade us and our attacks. The Mantises are a threat that rivals the human threat, except they have no boundary or moral for them to know when to stop. They want the wyverns kind extinct along with the gods. And they’ll do anything to have it that way.” Coral said. Forest smiled nervously unsure what to say at this.
“That’s… cool!! My parents are mostly homebodies, never really leaving the safety of the nest. Most of my family is like that. But they are very loving!”
“Your parents were hermits until you became a big shot.” Crimson interjected.
“Well, not really. They were pretty sociable when it came to the colony. I rarely see my uncle because he doesn’t like leaving his nest.” Forest said. Crimson scowled.
“Fine, they were the most sociable hermits in your Hermit society.” Crimson responded.
“So, what are your parents like Crimson?” Coral asked nonchalantly. Forest winced as she asked. Nightfall seemed to get antsy about it. Crimson looked over at her with a slight glare.
“They're dead.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. Is alright if I ask how they died?” Coral asked “No, I really don’t.” Crimson said. “I’m gonna go back to the main nest. Forest, can I have some of that meat in your pack?” Crimson asked. Forest obliged, handing some meat to Crimson. She grabbed it with her mouth as she walked away toward the way the main nest quarters were.
“Did I say something wrong?” Crimson asked. Forest shrugged.
“Not, really? She’s honestly just someone who doesn’t like talking about that part of her past. Or her parents. I don’t know what happened to them. It isn’t your fault. You just didn’t know.” Forest explained, Coral nodded.
“Should I go apologize? I didn’t mean to be rude.” Coral asked. Forest shrugged again.
“Ah, I wouldn’t. She’s not one for profuse apologies. She’d probably get more annoyed by them than the actions that she considered rude.” Forest said. He then noticed how quiet Nightfall was, he seemed to be deep in thought as he looked at the ground. It was strange. Coral smiled still, trying to be a good hostess to her company.
“Well, would you like to continue the tour of our home? There are a few places I haven’t shown.” Coral asked with a smile. But Forest shook his head.
“Actually is it okay if I can ask you some more questions. Like what are the names of your other family members? We only know your mom’s name? Like my sister’s name is Ri and I can certainly go down the list. But I would like to know about you and your family?” Forest asked. Coral was surprised by this, she smiled.
“Well, let’s see. My father’s name is Adder. He’s not particularly social with new creatures and is a bit brash at the first few meetings with others. But that’s only because he doesn’t know how to act around them. I’ve already told you about his job as a scout. He loves the desert sun and the warm air of the dunes pushing him up into the air as he flies. He loves to tell us the legends and stories of the past, always telling us them before nestling us into sleep. He’s very much a wyvern of tradition and is quite the perfectionist, something I picked up from him along with his other habits. He’s the one who came up with my name. He loved the unique colors that I was born with, which you might’ve noticed aren’t so normal for a Poison Wyvern. But he knew I couldn’t have a normal name or an ordinary name when I was born. In fact, he and my mother left me unnamed for three days trying to figure out what my name should be.” Coral said. She had a big smile on her face as she spoke about her father.
“My brother’s name is Terciopelo, but he likes to go by Fer-De-Lance as it was used to describe the same type of snake. He’s about two years older than me and he loves it when it rains. He loves the smell of the Scar as the Sulfur rises in billows. He’s not all too fond of the heat so he spends most of his time during the day swimming and wallowing up in the mountain’s ponds: and when he’s allowed with his friends, sometimes the Obelisk lakes. He and I were really close when we were younger, but he’s a bit of a jerk to me now. He had his moment with me when we were younger, but he was like this before he reached his adolescence. He mainly does it to show he’s like the other wyverns around here and not— well peculiar like some other wyverns we know.” Coral said with a small tinge of sadness in her voice. There was something about how she said that that made Forest wonder who it was they considered strange. Then Coral composed herself and continued.
“You’ve met my mother, Viper. She’s a loving mother, but someone who doesn’t like nonsense or excuses to be made. She isn’t a perfectionist, but she likes everyone to keep their rooms clean. She loves to paint and loves the beautiful sunsets here in the scar. She and my father explored almost every inch of Scorched Earth as young wyverns. My father says she and he have some incredible stories and tales to tell me. Once I’m old enough, though I think I am ready to hear them now. But they think I’ll get scared.”
“Then there’s my younger sister, Twig. She’s about two years younger than me. She loves the Pryomanes down who live in the Scar’s bottom. She’s constantly playing with their cubs and is covered in small burns. My mother tells her she needs to stop roughhousing with the cubs down there and play with hatchlings of her own kind, but she finds the hatchlings… unsuitable for her company. She loves to collect teeth of all the different creatures she comes across, and she loves to hang out with me and play with her rocks and paint on her walls. And, that’s my family that lives here. I have a few uncles and aunts but they don’t live with us.” Coral continued. Forest nodded.
“Pryomanes are the strange Shadowmanes that are on fire?” Forest asked. Coral then looked at Forest with a confused look.
“What’s a Shadowmane?” Coral asked. Forest then realized he was going to get nowhere with this. He felt a nudge from his right side. He looked over to see Nightfall nod and mouth yes.
“Ah, never mind. But why does Twig have issues making friends with wyverns? Does she deal with bullying?”
“No, not really her. Most would probably get along with her. She just finds the other wyverns rude and despicable toward m- to peculiar-looking wyverns.” She said. Forest looked at her for a moment. She looked down as though ashamed. Nightfall seemed to notice this too. And he did what Forest couldn’t.
“You’re the reason that your sister has trouble making wyvern friends and why your brother feels he has to prove himself? All cause of the color of your scales?” Nightfall asked. She looked over at him. And shook her head.
“Not really for that, although that does play a part. I am just strange. A freak among the wyverns. My acid burns nearly everything it touches.” She said. Nightfall raised an eyebrow while Forest stood there in confusion and realization that wyverns had different types of breaths.
“But, that’s what a Poison Wyvern's acid does already?”
“To your own kind's skin? I can’t play with other wyverns of my kind for fear that my acid will burn them. And I have… moments that feel strange to me. Things that make me behave strangely when I am around others. I’m looked down upon by my Poison Wyvern peers and I’m teased and harassed by Fire Wyverns for my colored scales. The. Lightning wyverns don’t even come near me with how I behave. They’re too scared to know what to do with me. I can’t even act normal around my own family anymore… I have everything way too neat in my nesting room, I can’t act normal around others without having these moments, My acid burns almost anything, my scales are too bizarre for my own kind's colors— I’m a freak and I hate it.” Coral said, her voice beginning to crack.
“So? That’s why you think you're a freak? Just a few little things? You're not really a freak. Maybe a little odd, but you're definitely not a freak.” Crimson said as she came back from the main den. Coral looked back at her.
“What do you mean by a few things? Do you know what it feels like when you are heckled by all of the hatchlings and those the same age as you? Do you know how it feels when your own kind bites at you or worse? All because you're a freak?!” Coral went on, upset at the notion that she might be overreacting.
“No, but I have my own problems of being a freak.” Crimson said, slightly less. Coral snorted, shaking her head.
“How could you… You are legends. You’re heroes. How could you deal with being con-” Coral went on praising them, until Crimson finally snapped. “Stop it, stop with these stupid fantasies!! You think we are all these really cool creatures who have never dealt with these problems at all? We are just as much freaks as anyone. I have lived with a Baryonyx since my parents died. Forest just as he was given his mission and became the first ever Rock Drake to take a step out of his home and into a world he had never seen so that makes him the least agoraphobic and germaphobic. Spark is too much of a motor mouth for her kind. Nyx and Rust are just straight freaks. We all went one by one then followed this feather-brained on an adventure because he talked to a freak snake whose species can see into the future. Then, a year later. We are all sent across these different places. Where Forest then meets this freak of a compy hybrid. He was hated because of his deinonychus-type arrogance; and his size. And then we meet you. Someone who feels like they can’t be related to because they think their issues are only something she deals with being different. Well, guess what, YOU’RE NOT. We all deal with issues, the question is, how are you going to deal with them?!” Crimson snapped angrily. Coral looked shocked and still upset. She nodded as though taking in what Crimson just told her. Forest was kinda shaken up himself. He understood what she was trying to do, but she seemed to get carried away by her frustrations of being treated as a heroine.
“I’m sorry… I just thought that a hero wo-” “WE AREN’T HEROES!!! We never were. We were just hatchlings following a stupid snake’s wishes. The real heroes, the ones you imagine us to be… were the ones who risked their lives. Those who risked everything for us. Coal, Orbit… Moonbeam. They risked their safety and their own skins saving us. And some of them died for that heroism.” Crimson interjected again. Coral looked down and seemed ashamed.
“I-I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I’ve just heard the legends for so long, and how these tales were told for generations. It made me imagine you three to be heroes. I didn’t know it was disrespectful to treat you as such.” She said genuinely. Crimson honestly looked shocked, though to Coral. It might look like she was disgusted. Maybe she was. Forest thought that she probably didn’t expect someone to roll over and apologize so easily. Probably because of how Rust or Spark were. She looked at Coral and snorted, trying to look less shocked than she did.
“You’re no freak, but you are over apologetic. Just stop calling us heroes, and stop calling yourself a freak.” She said as she walked away. “And keep it down, the whole reason I came out was to say you're being overly loud.” She continued as she walked away. Forest watched her for a second before he looked back over at Coral. She looked quite upset and unconvinced at what Crimson had told her, even though it was true from what Forest could tell. She wasn’t a freak at all. A bit odd at most and shy, but not a freak.
“It’s true what she said Coral. You aren’t a freak, or maybe we are all freaks by nature. And there are just those who see themselves less like freaks than others. Because I have been teased for being weird or having a silly name. And like Crimson said-” “Do you find it irritating that I treat you three so special? Like you're a hero?” Coral asked. Forest stood there puzzled for a moment. He wasn’t really expecting that to be asked.
“I think that you should treat us as you think you should. Crimson is just someone who doesn’t appreciate being appreciated. Especially being treated like a hero or mighty legend. I really don’t mind how you wish to treat us, although I must agree I don’t feel like a hero myself, and I must admit that I do feel that there are those who do deserve it more than us.” Forest said. Coral nodded her head.
“I mean, that’s kinda hard for your type of thing Forest. The Five aren’t just known as heroes on Fjordur. They’re engraved across all of the Arks as something or another.” Nightfall muttered. Forest looked at him confused for a moment, and so did Coral.
“How would you know something like that?” Coral asked. Nightfall's eyes widened and his body shook at the realization that he blabbed too much.
“Uh, well if it was already spoken of on my Ark for years and spoken of here for hundreds of years. Then it has to be now over more Arks, right?” He bluffed as he shook. She stared at him for a moment with a curious eye.
“I- guess that makes sense.” Coral said. She looked back at Forest with a smile. “Did you two want to go around and continue the tour?” She asked. Forest thought about it for a moment. He was hesitant as he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. Going on with the tour sounded interesting. But he honestly wanted to sit down and talk to Coral more.
“Actually, if it’s alright. Could we go sit out in the main nesting chamber and talk some more? I’d like to know more about this place and more of your stories.” Forest asked. Coral seemed surprised, but she smiled excitedly.
“Yeah!! We can do that!! As long as I can ask some more questions too.” Coral asked. Forest smiled and nodded.
“I’m okay with that.” Forest said.
“So am I. Even though I’m a third wheel in this conversation.” Nightfall chimed in. Coral and Forest looked at him confused for a moment as the three stood there.
“What’s a wheel?” Forest asked. Nightfall looked at him with a dumbfounded look. “Let’s just go to the nest chamber and talk there, preferably not about this.” They all agreed, and with that, the three went off towards the nesting chambers.

Forest, Nightfall, and Coral continued to ask questions about each other for a couple of hours, Coral had seemed irritated by the three intruding on her while she ate. But as time went on, she too seemed to get interested in some of the questions and butted in from time to time in her own way. Coral also seemed happy that she got Crimson to talk to her even after getting Crimson flustered up before. Coral seemed a little nervous to ask anything of Crimson and tried to ask more about the rest of the Five what they were like. Forest was easily able to describe Spark to her as she had already seen and even talked to Carnos before. But he did have trouble as he tried his best to explain what Rust and Nyx were. Crimson helped by giving a good description of what Rust was, which Coral seemed to understand well. While Forest tried to, again, explain what Nyx was.
“So a Shadowmane is like a Pryomane,—”
“Okay.” Coral nodded.
“But instead of fire, they are half fish, half sabertooth.” Forest continued. Coral sighed.
“I, don’t know what a fish looks like.” Crimson then looked at her with a side eye.
“You don’t know what a fish looks like? What, do not have those here too?” She remarked. Coral shook her head.
“No, we do. I’ve just never seen one. The only places that have enough water are the murky river waters or the ponds surrounding the Obelisks. But the only times I’ve been to those ponds. I haven’t seen any fish.” She said.
“Man, this is a weird place.” Crimson said. Coral chuckled.
“Well, I’m sorry that this place isn’t abundant in fish or water.” Coral answered,
“It’s okay. But as I said, Nyx looks like a Pryomane mixed with a fish. Other than that I really don’t know how to describe how she looks.”
“Okk… I still don’t know what that would look like except that it kind-of looks like a pyromane.” She said.
“Yeah, that’ll help some if you ever see one though.” Forest said. He listened for a moment as the others continued to talk. Forest smiled as it seemed that she was doing better than she was earlier.
As he thought about this, he started hearing a thunderous flapping coming from the outside trench. Then, wings appeared and the body of a Poison Wyvern emerged from the outside world. Crimson and Coral braced their bodies against the large gusts of wind. Forest’s large claws kept his grip firm and strong, letting him hold on to the rocks below with little effort against the powerful gusts of air. Forest turned his head as he heard a squawk. Just as he turned his head, he saw Nightfall roll across the floor and hit one of the walls of the main chamber. He turned his head back to see who it was and realized it was the head wyvern that brought them to the nest, Coral’s mother, Viper.
Viper slowly flew over to the nest and landed inside it. Coral flapped her wings excitedly and ran over, then nuzzled her. “Hi sweetie! Have you been taking care of our guests?” Viper asked Coral. Coral nodded with a smile
“Yes, Mom.” Coral answered.
“Good, good. Now we have to leave soon for the meeting with President Kaminari. He has questions for our guests that they might be able to answer. I’ll need your help Coral to take them up to the mountain we’re convening at.” Viper said. Coral smiled. Crimson gave Viper a strange look.
“Yes, ma’am, I’ll help with whatever you need me to!”
“What type of questions?” Crimson asked. Viper looked over at Crimson and gave her a keen look over.
“Questions about why you are here as wild creatures and not tamed. And to figure out who you are exactly” Viper answered. Forest seemed worried at this statement
“Now get ready soon, we have to leave in an hour. Methuselah will be there too to answer questions as well so don’t feel too nervous. Coral, after you help me, I need you to come back here immediately and wait for your brother. You cannot watch or stay for this meeting. No questions.” Viper said. Coral sighed with disappointment.
“Alright. Come on you three, I want to show you some of the things I found in the desert on my few journeys with my dad.” Coral said, Crimson sighed while Nightfall said he was up to it. Forest looked at her and smiled. He was glad to as he wanted to know more about her, but he needed to ask Viper a question.
“I’ll be there in a minute. I have a question for your mom I need answered.” He said. Coral smiled and showed the other two the way to her collection. As they left. Forest looked over at Viper. Who was looking him over like she did with Crimson.
“What was it that you wanted to ask me that Coral couldn’t answer?” Viper asked. Forest was nervous as he looked at her. He didn’t realize how much larger she was than he was. And it made her very intimidating.
“Well… never mind.” Forest said nervously. He wasn’t able to continue. However, Viper looked at him with a slight smile
“It’s alright. You don’t need to be afraid to ask me something. Now if you want, you can ask me. If you don’t want to though, then you can go on your way with your friends and Coral.” She said. There was a moment of silence before Forest finally pulled his nerves together to ask.
“Commander Viper, I wanted to ask a question about that thing in Coral’s bedroom.” Viper looked at him with a strange look.
“What thing?” She asked.
“The strange blueish square in her room that she has set along with her rock collection. My friend called it Element.—” Forest said. Viper looked at him with a curious, yet suspicious look. “I wanted to know more about it, like where it came from and what it is?” Forest continued to ask. Viper looked at him and sighed.
“I think that would be better asked of President Kaminari.” She said. Forest looked at her unsure of what that meant.
“Huh?”
“If you are, who we think you are, it would simply be better if the answer would come from President Kaminari rather than me. And we still don’t know if you are the three. So I’d ask that you refrain from asking such questions until we know who you exactly are.” She said. Forest stood there and nodded.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Now I think it would be best if you go and hang out with the Coral and the others until it is time to go.” Viper insisted. Forest nodded again and thanked her for her hospitality as he left to go meet with the others.
~
A Troodon watched from a mountain next to the Red Obelisk as he saw commotion of wyverns and a Fasolasuchus conversed on one of the arches before heading up one of the mountains. These wyverns were of the cabinet of President Kaminari, Mira of The Island Council had wanted every order on high alert for fugitives of The Island. A former member of a high degree, and Forest of The Five from Fjordur. They were not sure exactly, but Mira said it was his being there that was because of the rune. And she worried he may have escaped to a new Ark.
When they first heard of this news, the first place that the Order of Scorched Earth had under watch was The World’s Scar. Not only did the Order of the Arks know of the Lightning Wyverns’ generational knowledge of the Arks which rivaled even the Order of Scorched Earth’s knowledge of the Ark. So if a fugitive was among them, he would also know where they needed to go. But that a legend and prophecy had been foretold over three hundred years prior, a prophecy so strange and outlandish, that the Order of Scorched Earth didn’t record it to the other Arks in fear that it might cause chaos. Though they recorded it in their own council of Scorched Earth. The prophecy foretold of a Rockdrake coming to Scorched Earth with two other creatures, and that they would take the blessing of The Scar to its rightful home. At the time, this prophecy seemed crazy to anyone not a wyvern, not anymore though.
Two days passed, then suddenly three creatures were taken into the Scar from the back of this Faso that was with the President now. This Troodon didn’t get a good enough look to determine its kind, but normally guest creatures of the Scar don’t make such a commotion for the cabinet and the president unless they were of the utmost importance. And with their pro. Now it seemed they were going to a usual reconvening site of the wyverns, on top of the tallest peaks of the range.
The Troodon had gained enough intel to make a determined judgment. Too many coincidences were occurring for this to be anything but the fugitives. He sprinted as fast as he could, and within an hour. Made it to the Obelisk platform where three of the highest-ranking order members of Scorched stood. One of white and brown feathers, another of pale yellow, and the last of red and black.
“You have news for us, and by your being here without being called. It is news we feared, no?” The white-feathered said. The troodon bowed and lowered his head.
“It is, Lord of Power. I believe I have enough evidence to prove that the fugitives are here.” The Troodon said as he looked back up to The Lord of Power.
“What evidence do you carry?” The Pale Yellow Troodon asked.
“Lord of Fate, in the past four hours. I have seen three creatures come in on a Fasola’s back. These creatures, were taken into the Scar’s fiery pit. I then watched as the Fasola, the cabinet of the president, and Kaminari himself formed an informal meeting on an arch above the Scar. Within this, the majority of the president’s council seemed worried and on edge about what they were speaking of. Considering what their prophecy foretells and who we are dealing with. This would seem to line up with their prophecy, and how they would behave if they were holding to such prophetic creatures.” the troodon said.
“So, your only evidence to this is a strange meeting between the wyvern cabinet and a Fasola, and three creatures being taken into the Scar? This doesn’t seem to be more than glorified assumptions you’ve made. How would a third creature be associated with the fugitives? They know no one here, and I doubt they could make any solid alliances with any stranger.” The Lord of Power spoke.
“But the Order of Fjordur has gone to say all of The Five are missing from Fjordur. If that’s the case we could assume that, maybe similar to Forest being discovered on The Island, the other four members of The Five are across different Arks. Maybe one being here.” The Lord of Fate said.
“And, if these assumptions were true. Then we would take care of two threats within the Scar. The fugitives, and the wyverns. Two birds for the price of one.” The Red Troodon finally spoke.
“Lord of Action, your needs are something we don’t need yet.” Power said the Red Troodon. Whose Lordship was indeed of Action.
“However, this is a good point from him. The Lightning Wyvern’s innate knowledge of our existence is something that has been a problem for several millennia, and the combination of both callousness and incompetence of elimination has been withheld for too long. If there is reasonable cause to believe that the fugitives are hiding themselves in the Scar. Then committing an assault upon the Scar would be more valuable than any risk; if the fugitives are there. We both end their risk and the risk of the wyverns that live there. If they aren’t, then the action upon the Scar still proves successful at eliminating threats to the Order.” Fate said. Power sneered, baring his teeth.
“This doesn’t mean it will now cause severe ecological threats to the fragile environment we live in. The Wyverns are the Apex of this environment, and with all three kinds living within the Scar means all three must be eliminated. Which would cause detrimental results to this Ark.” Power said as he glared at Fate. Fate looked at Power with both disinterest and disgust.
“I have taken this into account with this Lord of Power, and as we all know, the system through which we have gained our knowledge will always maintain the balance of the environment no matter what occurs. If all wyverns are eliminated, the system will replace the colony with new wyverns. Wyverns with no knowledge of the Order. Wyverns, with new traditions.” Fate retorted. Power sneered more.
“I think we have enough here to continue onto the next stage. Lord of Action, what is your decision?” Fate continued. “Now hold on, we should discuss this further.—” Power shouted.
“My decision is to press forward with an assault on the Scar for both the fugitives, and the wyverns. What is the Fate of these poor souls my lord?” Action announced. Pushing his question to lead the next decision to be made by The Lord of Fate. “NOW HOLD IT.—”
“The fate of both the fugitives and the wyverns has been weighed in the balance of The Order, and their fate has been chosen as death.” Fate announced. “And since the final verdict goes through me, I have decided not to permit the power of our forces to go along with such a reckless action. Not only is there the risk of our forces failing in this assault, which yet again proves this is a risk to The Order if this occurs. But, there is the chance this entire Ark will be compromised for the Order: As there would be no way of hiding our strength and the potential of The Order’s existence being revealed. So no Power will be permitted. That is my decision.” Power declared. Both the Lords of Action and Fate looked down upon the Lord of Power in this moment with discontent. They whispered into each other’s ears for a moment. The scout watched as The Lord of Power narrowed his gaze upon the two. As if wondering what they were plotting.
“Then, I propose we submit the idea again this time though. The assault will be covert. Not directly done by the Order. Instead, action will be committed by the enemies of the wyverns. Both the Argentavises and Mantises. Both of which only need inspiration or to be bought off to commit the act of the assault. For this, we would only need to use our scouts to propose the invasion and to bring payment to these creatures. Does the Fate change my lord?” Action proposed as he stood his ground. The Lord of Power seemed shocked at this.
“The fates of both have been weighed and found to be judged as equally before. Their fates are DEATH. The Lord of Power will then no longer be needed. As the action will not need the force of The Order of Scorched Earth.” Fate answered. The Lord of Power was furious.
“This is unacceptable!!! You can’t do this!!! The balance of Fate, Power, and Action must always be held.” He shouted. The Lord of Fate scowled, her eyes like piercing rays of light.
“We can do it. And we will do so unless it is shown to be dangerous to The Order. Because, it seems that for any such votings in the past for the eradication of the wyverns have always been thwarted by the Lords of Power. But such actions will not be tolerated any longer; As such actions show that The Lords of Power may NOT be adequate for the needs of The Order of Scorched Earth. So either comply with what we have now and have The Lord of Power continue to be adequate for The Order, or be accused of treason. Which we both know what the fate of that is.” Fate answered as she stood tall over the Lord of Power. The Lord of Power stood there for a moment with his teeth bared in anger. Then, in a moment he withdrew his baring teeth and remained silent. The Lord of Fate smirked in triumph.
“Good, now scout.” Fate started as she stared down the scout. The scout lowered his head as she spoke to him. “Gather ten or so more scouts and divide yourselves into two groups to go and persuade the Mantises and the Argentavises into our operation.” Fate commanded. The Troodon stood and looked at The Lord of Fate in the face as he said, “It will be done my lord.”. Then as quickly as he said it. He ran off to gather the scouts that were requested of him to gather.

Day 11 of Aberration
Around noon
It had been a few days since the Elemental Vault descent. With each passing day, Dorack grew slightly more nervous. He and Sodden had gone out on a taming spree to collect some Megalosauruses. Dorack stood outside the main base, in a medium sized barn, with some dino gates on its front. Inside was a large room, with air conditioners on the left side, along with a feeding trough. There was a refrigerator, cooking pot, and grill to the right of the building. There were some baby Megalosauruses screeching as they walked through the barn, jumping at the grill and trying to bite it. Dorack was putting more meat in the trough then turned to the Megalosauruses.
“Hey, guys. Can y’all chill? Let’s not wreck the place, okay?” Dorack said as he chuckled and walked to the baby creatures. Dorack then picked up three of the five and moved them to the small pen that sat on the corner of the hatchery. Dorack then moved the creatures into the pen and walked towards the door. As he reached for the door, a thought struck him.
“Hmm. We do have a lot of stuff. We could… we could just go now.” Dorack whispered to himself. He sighed and walked out of the door. Sodden was inside the base, crafting some grappling hooks and ziplines. He was making two extra sets of hazard suits, so that he and Dorack would have spares. Sodden stitched fiber and hide together, and added red gems to enhance the protection. He continued to craft it while Dorack sat in the hatchery. They were slowly but surely building up an army, but Dorack remained uncertain if it would be enough. He wanted to meet with Sylveevee soon. Dorack sighed and walked out of the hatchery, closing the gates behind him. The adult Megalosauruses to the bottom right corner of the hatchery were in a pen and had breeding on, and beneath them was a few air conditioners, along with a generator a few feet from the pen, against the wall. Dorack walked to the base and opened the front door. Dorack then sighed and walked to his bed and looked down at Sodden’s bag.
“Only five days left… okay. We… we should go. I think we’re ready.” Dorack whispered as he gripped tightly on Sodden’s bag. Sodden then walked downstairs, holding the two sets of hazard suits in his hands. Dorack gasped and turned around, then let go and stood up from the bed. Sodden turned to Dorack.
“Did you check on the Megalosauruses?” Sodden asked. Dorack nodded.
“Of course. They should have enough food for a while. Anyway… why don’t we just go to the Rock Drake trench? Like, right now? We have all the ziplines and supplies we need.” Dorack asked. Sodden gasped and walked to his bag, and shoved all the items he had crafted into the bag, then Sodden closed it and put it on his back. He then turned back around to Dorack.
“Okay. Fine. Go ahead. But here’s the thing. Remember what Sylveevee said to us. You gotta be careful there. There’s going to be a lot of Rock Drakes there. We gotta be careful.” Sodden said. Dorack gasped and nodded.
“Okay.” Dorack said. He turned around, then Sodden put his hand on Dorack’s shoulder.
“Hold on. Please stay away from Dread’s base. I don’t want to see you doing anything funny.” Sodden said sternly. Dorack sighed and nodded.
“Of course.” Dorack said. Dorack wanted to do both: go to the trench and to Dread’s base. But if he wanted to do the latter, he would need Sylveevee’s help. Sodden and Dorack sighed and walked towards the front door, and Dorack opened it, and both survivors walked out the door. Sodden closed it then reached into his bag and pulled out a cryopod.
“Thank god Reaper’s all healed now.” Dorack said in relief. Sodden nodded in agreement. Sodden then threw the cryopod at the ground and Reaper came out of the cryopod. She then growled softly and looked up at Dorack and Sodden. Sodden and Dorack nodded and got onto Reaper, then Reaper roared as Sodden led her to run out of the green zone, far south to the Red Zone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After around two hours, Sodden and Dorack approached a large cliff on the south end of the Blue Zone. Right down a path to the side was the path towards the Rock Drake trench, deep in the Red Zone. Sodden and Dorack already had their hazard suits on, and they had spares in their bag, so they were all set. Sodden hopped off Reaper before they went down to the Red Zone. Sodden then put his bag onto the ground and looked into it.
“Okay. Reaper needs protection from the radiation. She’s not a aberrant. Uh… I made something.” Sodden explained as he stood up and took something out of the bag. It looked like a hazard suit, but there were strange shapes on the sleeves, that seemed to match the shapes of a raptor.
“Dorack, could you get off?” Sodden asked. Dorack nodded and hopped off of Reaper. Then Sodden took the raptor-shaped hazard suit, and Reaper growled softly as Sodden put the tail-shaped rump ending around Reaper’s tail, then put it along her legs, claws, then putting the mask on her face. The hazard suit would protect her body nicely, but it wouldn’t last forever, so they had to be quick, as Sodden only had time to make one single outfit for Reaper. The middle back of the suit was connected to the saddle, so Sodden picked his bag back up, and he and Dorack got on Reaper, and they continued down into the Red Zone.
They continued down the path, entering the radiation-filled Red Zone. The path went to the east, speckled with bright red and pink mushrooms, red rocks across the path, and towering pillars of natural cave rocks occasionally appearing along the way. Strangely, there were no creatures anywhere. No Reapers, no carnos, no purlovias, not even a single seeker. Dorack looked around and squinted his eyes, then hummed in confusion.
“There’s basically nothing here.” Dorack said. Sodden nodded as he looked around.
“Yeah. That’s good, but also very weird. Usually there’s a lot of creatures here. Unless someone recently killed everything here.” Dorack said. Sodden nodded.
“Yeah. In that case, we should be careful. It could be anyone.” Sodden warned. Dorack nodded in agreement. They kept going down the path, looking around the place. Dorack had his shotgun out and on his lap in case something happened. As they continued down, they heard a quiet squeak. Dorack gasped and looked to the east, holding his shotgun out. He aimed it at where he heard the noise, then he heard deep footsteps. The footsteps got closer. Then something appeared in front of him. There was a large magenta-colored Rock Drake tht had just became visible in front of him. Dorack gasped and put his shotgun away. Sodden turned around and gasped. The Rock Drake growled softly and then glowed brightly. She then shrunk down to human size, her tail retracting into her body, her claws retracting and her arms and feathers shrinking. She then walked to Dorack and sighed.
“What’re you doing here?” Sylveevee said. Dorack gasped.
“We’re… we’re here to get Rock Drakes.” Dorack said. Sodden nodded.
“Yeah. We’re going to the trench right now.” Sodden explained. Syl nodded.
“Okay. Well… there’s no creatures here, so that means Dread and his tribe was here recently. I wouldn’t suggest going to get the Rock Drake.” Syl said. Sodden gasped and looked down.
“Well, okay. We’ll just go in there and get some eggs.” Dorack said. Sodden gasped and shot his eyes towards Dorack, then put his hands on his shoulder.
“No. It’s too risky. She said Dread was there recently.” Sodden gasped. Dorack sighed.
“I refuse to not take this risk. Like… we need to get supplies for our plan!” Dorack yelled.
“Listen. Dread isn’t your average survivor. You were very lucky to have escaped him the other day. He could’ve easily killed all of us. Did Serenity tell you his attribute?” Syl asked. Dorack shook his head, and so did Sodden.
“I think it’s only that armor bounces off of armor. Or something, I don’t know.” Dorack said. Syl groaned.
“If that was the case, Dread would’ve died when Terad was here! There were so many instances where he could’ve died. He survived and barely on the edge. Dread has a implant attribute that’s extremely complex. His survivor level can go all the way up to 250. He’s not all that fast, and doesn’t have a lot of weight. But he’s extremely tanky, and has insane damage stats. I don’t know exactly what his stats are, but I do know that he is very powerful.” Syl said. Dorack nodded slowly in affirmation.
“Okay… and what else can he do?” Dorack said. Syl shrugged.
“I don’t know the other abilities he has. That’s all I know. But what I do know is that you need to be careful here if you really want Rock Drakes.” Sylveevee said. Dorack nodded.
“Okay. Got that.” Dorack said. Sodden nodded and looked ahead, and Reaper continued down. Dorack turned to Sodden and sighed softly. Syl smiled softly and turned away, then morphed back into a Rock Drake and flew back to her base.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sodden and Dorack arrived at a large, long and rocky valley an hour later. Strangely, there were no rock drakes in sight. But there were many eggs speckled across multiple cavesides. There were eggs hung on cliffs, rocks, and even slopes. Sodden sighed and got off Reaper, and so did Dorack.
“Okay. Dorack, you’ll take the left side. I’ll do the right. Keep watch for anything.” Sodden explained. Dorack nodded. They then looked into their bags, getting crossbows, grappling hooks, and ziplines. Sodden turned back to Reaper after he got the equipment out.
“Reaper, find somewhere safe to hide, okay?” Sodden said. Reaper growled in affirmation and ran towards a big rock on the wall, that had a gap behind it. Sodden and Dorack were ready to go.
Sodden was out on the right side of the wall, grappling up to walls and slopes, picking up the eggs, and then using a zipline to get down. Dorack was on the left wall, but he wasn’t getting eggs. He climbed all the way up to the top of the wall, out of Sodden’s sight. Dorack sighed and walked away from the trench. And sure enough, around half a kilometer south of the trench, Dorack saw a large, metal and tek castle, with large, metal walls surrounding the perimeter. There were metal spikes lining the base of the walls, along with a dinosaur gate, guarded by two Reaper Queens, both on alternating sides of the gate.. Dorack gasped and looked up at the ceiling.
“Okay… let’s see-” Dorack said, then he was interrupted by a angry voice.
“Dorack! What’re you doing here!” The voice yelled. Dorack then looked to the right of him, and Syl was walking towards him.
“I… I need to get in there and-” Dorack said. Syl interrupted him just then.
“For what? What is this even about!? Like… why do you even want to get in there now?!” Syl yelled, then Dorack interrupted.
“Look. I need to find Nal. I need to. I could use your camouflage to get in there and-” Dorack explained, then Syl yelled at him to interrupt. She was about to say something else when they felt the ground shake a little bit. They gasped and shot their heads towards the gate. The Reapers were screeching and running right at them. Syl growled quietly.
“Get on my back now.” Syl said sternly. Dorack ran to her as Syl quickly morphed into a Rock Drake. Dorack hopped onto her back and they took off just as the Reapers were arriving. One leaped up and opened its mouth, reaching for the tail of the Rock Drake, but barely missed Syl’s tail. Syl glided down to the trench, as Sodden was collecting eggs. He had put the fourth egg in his bag and was ziplining down to ground level when he looked up and gasped in fear. Dorack and Syl were going towards Sodden, and Syl grabbed Sodden with her claws, then flew back to Reaper the raptor. Syl dropped Sodden and growled at him.
“Get Reaper. Now..” Syl said. Sodden stammered and tried to say something, then he saw the Reaper Queens on the top of the cliff, roaring down at them. Sodden gasped and turned to his raptor, took a cryopod from his bag, then put Reaper in it. Sodden put the cryopod back in hhis bag as the Reapers leaped down to the trench. Sodden got back onto the Rock Drake, and they glided out of there as fast as possible. The Reaper Queens roared as the Rock Drake flew away. Rod was mounted on one of the Reapers, sneering and chuckling.
“It’s about time we strike. Creatures, back to base!” Rod yelled. The Reapers roared loudly, turned around, and went to the slope to leave the trench and return to the base.
~~~~~~~~~
Later that day…
Syl landed onto the ground near the base, then Sodden growled as he leaped off and grabbed Dorack’s arm and yanked him off the Rock Drake. Syl then morphed back into a human.
“Dorack, we need to talk.” Sodden said sternly. Dorack nodded. Sodden stormed towards the base front doors, pulling Dorack along with him. Syl sighed and followed the two as Sodden burst open the door and threw Dorack onto a bed. Dorack fell onto his back and sat up. Syl walked into the base and Sodden sat down at a bed sitting across Dorack’s bed. Sodden looked at Dorack and sighed in disappointment. He looked down and put his hand to his forehead.
“Dorack… explain what you were thinking at the trench.” Sodden stated loudly. Dorack sighed.
“I wanted to have Sylveevee sneak me into the base and -” Dorack explained, then Sodden looked up and interrupted, putting his hand down.
“Oh, okay. I see what this is. You’re abusing royality to put us at risk. Yeah. Yeah. Makes perfect sense!” Sodden yelled sarcastically, as he leaped up. Dorack growled deeply and stood up.
“That’s not what I want to do! I wanted to go in there and get Nal back in disguise. Syl could just morph into something like a Giga or a Titanosaur and annihilate the whole place!” Dorack yelled. Sodden was silent. He couldn’t even believe what Dorack said.
“Dread is extremely powerful. And must I remind you that the amount of mass in a Titanosaur would kill Syl relatively quickly? Yeah! And not even mentioning what happens if she falls. The weight means that she falling in that form means instant death. And a Giga alone is no match for, oh, I don’t know… like, a whole bunch of Reapers and Rock Drakes!” Sodden yelled. Dorack groaned loudly in exhaustion.
“I can’t do this anymore. I was trying to help save our friends! Syl could help us in doing that!” Dorack yelled. Sodden then snapped.
“What?! Our friends?! Can you just shut up? I refuse to let any one of you go near that base, especially not in front of Dread or Rod or anyone else! Who knows what Dread could do to Serenity if he saw you screwing over near his base! Oh, god. STAY AWAY FROM THE BASE! Or else I’m gonna lose my only best friend!” Sodden yelled in anger. He then gasped and put his hands to his mouth. Dorack’s jaw dropped, he was bamboozled and speechless. Syl was shocked too. She couldn’t even say anything. She just gasped softly and sat down on Nal’s bed.
“You… you love her. You never cared about me.” Dorack gasped. Sodden stammered.
“That wasn’t… that wasn’t what I meant!” Sodden stammered. Dorack sighed, slightly saddened.
“Yeah, but you said it. You said the words yourself. You don’t care about me or Nal.” Dorack said. He turned away. Sodden groaned.
“That’s not even what I meant! I… I was upset at you and I lacked judgement. I… I never even bothered to go back and ponder what I was gonna say to you.” Sodden said apologetically. Dorack then turned around quickly, stood up, and growled.
“Yeah, yeah. Then explain all the times you constantly flirted with her!” Dorack yelled. Sodden gasped and stood up.
“Go ahead. Say it. One more time. I dare you.” Sodden sneered. Dorack huffed and growled deeply.
“I understand if you don’t care about me or Nal. Or anyone else, for that matter.” Dorack said, with some distraught in his voice. Sodden growled.
“That isn’t even what I said!” Sodden yelled. Dorack then shoved him out of the way, and he fell over onto the floor.
“Yeah, but you said it! It’s true. You… you never cared!” Dorack yelled. Sodden gasped and stood up.
“Okay, fine. Fine! That’s how you wanna do things, huh?” Sodden yelled in anger, and he slapped Dorack in the face. Dorack yelled loudly and lunged at Sodden, and Sodden grabbed his shoulder and beat Dorack over and over on it. Dorack kicked Sodden in the leg repeatedly, and they fell on the ground, throwing punches and kicks to each other. Syl gasped in fear and nervousness and leaped up, then she tried to grab Dorack’s arms and pull him away from Sodden. Syl then shouted as she got launched backwards, into a storage box. She groaned as she stood up. Dorack and Sodden were getting bloody. Syl growled. She then glowed bright pink, magenta-like, and she roared as she morphed into a Therizinosaur, a smaller one, at that. She then screeched and ran at the two survivors, then used her claws to push Dorack and Sodden apart, holding them in seperate claws.
“You two need to chill out! We won’t advance if we’re just gonna fight!” Syl yelled. Sodden looked up at Syl and growled as he turned to Dorack. Dorack huffed and turned his head away.
“Fine. But I’m not talking to Sodden for the rest of this.” Dorack stated. Sodden growled in agreement.
“Fine with me.” Sodden said loudly. Syl sighed in relief and released her grip on the two survivors, then she morphed back into human form.
“Okay. You two need to at least compromise and get your army ready. We can’t afford to wait any longer. I’m gonna go back to the Aberration Kingdom and I pray that you two will be nice to each other. This is what Rod wants. For you two to become enemies. We can’t let that happen.” Syl stated sternly. Sodden and Dorack huffed and nodded. Syl then walked to the door, which remained open the entire time. Syl then walked out and closed the door. Meanwhile, Sodden and Dorack were looking through their bags.
“We need to hatch the Rock Drakes and Megalosauruses. We need more creatures.” Dorack said. Sodden nodded in agreement, focused on the bag and not making eye contact with Dorack.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, someone had been watching the whole thing unfold from a distance. Near a tall mushroom tree stood a man, draped in black flak armor and with a gas mask on his face. He had a spyglass in his left hand. He watched the entire fight unfold and to say he was pleased would be a understatement.
“Hee, hee, hee. Yes. They’re becoming enemies now. Phase two is complete! Time to begin phase three!” The man sneered. This was Rod, who had snuck behind the base, and he had begun the beginning of the end.

The Riddles of The Phoenixes
The Lost world
Chapter two: Caught.
Captain Paul dragged Cedric along toward the castle. “Cedric.” His father said, sighing exasperated. “What did you do this time?” Cedric’s mother rushed to his side, and father followed her. Cedric yanked away from Captain Paul and glared at him. “I think you stretched my ear.” Cedric complained. Captain Paul smirked. “It might help you listen more, to your parents.” Cedric only scowled.
Cyra put her hands on her son’s shoulders. “What happened?” She asked. “Prince Cedric burned the statues in the city.” She said. Jack’s face went dark and Mother’s hands tightened around Cedric’s shoulders. “What do you have to say for yourself, this time?” Jack asked Cedric.
Cedric shrugged. “I would say, I’m thirsty. All that running tired me out.” He said. Jack hid a smile. “You may leave.” Cyra told the captain. Paul bowed his way out. Cedric held my head high as he looked at his parents. “Why did you ACTUALLY do this?” His father asked. Cedric frowned. “Well, it was either set them on fire or draw mustaches on their faces. But…considering that wouldn’t be as fun i set them on fire…accidentally of course. I only lit up one statue, and then seconds later the others were on fire. You should be happy, they were rather ugly anyway.” Jack hid another smile. “Cedric!” Cyra scolded.
Cedric tossed his hair carelessly. Cyra and Jack exchanged knowing looks. Cyra went and stood by Jack. “Son, you are sixteen…” Jack began. “And how old are you?” Cedric asked. “Cedric!!” Cyra scolded. Cedric grinned. “Sorry. I’ve always wondered.” He said. They began to talk to him about “self discipline”, “growing up”, “responsibly”, and all that another nonsense,(Or at least Cedric thought it was) but Cedric stopped listening. He stared blankly at them, their words muffled like he was underwater.
Cyra was making furious gestures as she talked and Jack was nodding along. Cedric began to listen as they discussed his “punishment”. “You have to grow up. It’s time you learned that. You have two choices. Stay here and be grounded for a year or go to the Phoenix school. They teach you how to control your powers and stuff.” Cyra said. Their son’s mouth dropped open. “WHAT?!” Cedric cried. “You want me to go to some stupid school?!” He shouted. “Either that or you get grounded for a year.” Jack said. Cedric thought about it for a moment. At least at school he’d have time to do…other things and not be stuck in the castle for a year. Cedric turned to look at his parents, a gloomy expression on his face. “Fine. I’ll go to that dumb school.” He said. “Good. It’s about time that you started listening to your tutors anyway.” Cyra said. “Tomorrow is when the first day starts, there will be other new kids. We’ll head there tomorrow morning.” Cedric only scowled darkly.
He didn’t want to go to that school but it seemed he didn’t have a choice. This would be quite a adventure and he was sure he wouldn’t enjoy it. Or so he thought….
