Tips & Strategies

What are tips for quetzal? Tips and strategies for quetzal in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Have a friend pick you up with an argy or use a grappling hook for solo tame and use tranq darts or tranq arrows and follow the quetzal till it's knocked out.
Don't drop your friend while following him 😀
If you don't own a quetzal or a tapejara already. This will be tricky. I suggest asking for some help on your server. However, if you do own a quetzal and want another one, here's some tips. You need to build a trap on your current quetzal's platform saddle. It needs to be 3 high and 3 long. You can use thatch. Make it 3 wide/long using thatch foundations. Make it 3 high using thatch door frames. Then add thatch ceilings. Leave where you're siting open. Don't cover that with door frames just yet. When you're flying at the quetzal make sure you're going at it head first. Once it's flying in place in your trap stand up and put the thatch door frames behind where you're sitting, connecting it to the foundations to the ceilings. Then start tranqing wait every 10 seconds while shooting it so you don't kill it. Good luck.
Put a ballista on a mobile base and chain bola it then knock it out. This way you won't have to worry about it running
If you already have a quetz you can build a Contraption on the back of the quetz platform saddle. If you do not have a quest already and easy it is to use the tapejara, other than that use a ptera or a argy and follow it everywhere and tranq it down make sure you have spikes and narcotics ready, fast torpor!
Solo taming on servers is hard because of rubberbarding (lag) so it's idea to get another person to help rather than the grappling techique
For the Center Quetz tend to head to jungle north after being attacked and get stuck in the tall rock pillars this makes for an easy KO but sometimes they get stuck in the rock and u either need a friend with a quetz w/ platform to hover right below it or use grappling hooks for you to access the inventory
Once you get your first, I would suggest using a platform design to easily trap and tame wild quetzal. Many designs can be found online.
All you need is 4 foundations on a quetzal platform, 8 fence foundations, and 4 Dino gates (no doors) fly into the quetzal and dismount this will catch the wild quetzal if it's between the gates then just tranq and tame. Give it's long tame time be sure if you are going to have to move your quetzal then there's a safe area below and wall it in with thatch or wood walls to keep predators away from it. Or if you got time to sit around just stay in the air for low level ones.
If you don't have another quetzal to lend a hand then just use any bird and either have a buddy carry you while you shoot it down or run it into a mountain side as they get stuck easily. If it falls and is still on the mountain then have some pillars and make a makeshift landing pad off the mountain side so you can fit an argie or something on it to keep giving it narcs.
When trying to tame a quetzal it is hard to do it alone so grab a small amount of gear like a bow with tranq arrows and fly over it. After flying over it try and drop on it. ( this might take a few try's) once getting on the back shoot it with your tranq arrows. This will allow u to tame it if your alone. ( this method is hard)
Easiest way to tame a quetz is to have a quetz with a cage built on it.(assuming you or our tribe already had one) Trap the wild quetz with the quetzal cage being sure to put down your walls at the front of the quetzal cage to lock it in. Hop off your quetz and shoot the recommended amount of arrows into it until it drops. Its at this point you have two options, you can either tame it in the air or have your tribe mates clear the ground area of any agressive dinos below it so that you can the drop the wild quetz on the ground where your not as restricted to what your able to do during the taming process. Be sure to put double spikes around the wild quetz on the ground because some dino such as dilos and carnos can attack through the spikes. This is the easiest tamin method to date once you already have a quetz established.
There are two best ways to tame a quetz.
With your friend. Carry them and let them shoot it.
Without your friend. Grapple onto your bird and have button bound to passive and attack this target. Whistle attack this target to get close and Whistle passive to make sure your Dino doesn't attack it.
Wait for them to fly over your base and trap them in trapper then let them drop in your base and walaaa! Ive solo tamed 6 like this.
Get a grapple hook and shoot it while it is flying low or dismount off of your bird and shoot it while you fall then draw yourself to it pull out your other crossbow and fill it with tranks no matter where it goes you fallow and make sure you bring a parachute because you will need it when it falls good luck
If you are struggling to solo tame your first Quetz, just wait for v.248. In this update, we'll be able to equip weapons while mounted. If we can equip a rifle or crossbow with tranq darts or tranq arrows, this KO will be simple provided you have a decent stamina Ptero or Argent.
Build a trap on your quetz if you are flying it the wild one can fly through the walls if you jump of while the wild one is inside the walls will become solid and trap it now air.
I would use a grappling hook and grapple on to its behind so it can not attack you then use tranq darts or arrows and fire then when it get nocked out detach the grappling hook and use a parachute
You don't need an other person you can do it by yourself.

Solo knockout - You need an Argentavis - (Preferably a decent level) Step 1. Grapple hook onto the Argentavis. Then, shoot it with your tranquilizer darts or arrows, until it flies too far away. Step 3. Whistle your Argentavis to aggressive and then passive before it attacks the quetzal. Repeat the process until it goes down. Step 4. Use the information from DodoDex to tame the creature when it's down. I recommend putting spike walls around it to protect it when it's down. A chair and some war drums are also a good addition, but not mandatory.
For Taming a quetzal you should use high lvl ptera or an argy using Rex kibble is the fastest and easiest way to tame
