Tips & Strategies
You got a solid 7 seconds before they enter the stratosphere so shoot fast
On fjordur don’t go to the lake in redwoods because there is a chance you will find none or just one. Instead go to the telporters and go to the one that says Asgard, then if you find this little portal that says hati and skoll go around that area and you will find a ton of them.
This is the most underrated tame on ark for any level player. Extremely fast in air. High jumper. Can carry and raise babies. Can stay underwater without air AND is fast in water. Can pump weight for fast uhaul tame. Can pump stamina for a scout tame. Can quickly get out of danger. Semi hover/parachute drop ability for looking at things from high up. All in all it’s honestly OP and reallly slept on.
A 130 level took three tranq darts. It ko'd underwater but does not have oxygen so will survive. Feed mutton for quick tame!
Tamed a 116 and it only took about 5 tranqs
I had forgotten that they spawn in Asgard, this is so people don’t suffer by going into the redwood’s.
You can find Maewings all over Asgard!! I've had some problems trying to find and tame one in the red woods on Fjordur, but after I found them in Asgard it became super easy to get a high level one, because it is a much friendlier region than the red woods. UP so nobody has to go through the pain of dying in the red woods for a Maewing ever again :)
Easy to tame and can be found at the 55 75 area of lost island. They’re the fastest way to travel, have a decent carry weight and can also be used to harvest berries/fiber/silk/flower/mushrooms. They have a good jump, a fast glide, they don’t have an oxygen bar and they’re awesome swimmers. Using a bite attack in combination with the “belly flop” will cause an area attack that harvests all the bushes immediately around you for super quick farming. Use a harpoon and net to trap and tranq, then look for the Ovis that spawns in all the same areas and feed it the mutton. They act as a feeding trough for any dinos that aren’t fully matured, and have a greater feeding range after leveling nursing ability. The maewing also helps stretch your food as the babies don’t consume as much as if they were feeding from a normal trough. Their saddle can hold up to 4 maturing passengers all the way until they are fully matured (which saves tons of space when raising rex’s in a small base). Their third “attack” picks up any babies close by, including enemy babies which claims them as your own. They lay different quality of eggs that can make different kibbles. Though they can’t pick up any ocean dinos or nurse underwater, they can still act as a trough as long as it’s standing on land and the baby is in feeding range. Add a stack of preserving salt and slot cap the maewing with cooked meat or the type of food your babies require before logging off for peace of mind that they’ll be fine for more than 8 hrs
Thought that they would suck at PVE you THOUGHT WRONG. These things are great travel mounts, not just good for stealing enemy babies.
I think they might be omnivores.
Even though it does not say Maewings spawn on Fjordour they do I saw one at 23;83 by the structures
So I found out that these guys can’t get knocked out by headshots. It’s as if they weren’t hit in the first place. Lost a 145 Mae cause of it not taking torpor from headshots. Just wanna make it known
These are too fast if you jump off a mountain. they are also super easy to tame with BASIC kibble. You heard me. BASIC. They also ko super quick, even at high levels. Saddle is reasonably cheap, and this thing makes breeding and taming super easy, as it lays every egg size and can feed and carry up to 4 babies around in its saddle. They’re found in plains usually. Put 4 billboards tightly around them to trap, then tranq it. After it’s tamed with the super cheap kibble, you’ve got yourself the fastest creature in the game who can also handle babies for you, too.
