Tips & Strategies

The Maewing is the best breeding dino in Ark! Hands down! It doesn’t matter what level of Maewing you get! Just pop a saddle on the Platypus, put some food in its inventory, enable feeding and boom! You don't need to worry about your Babies starving anymore! Also as an added bonus although the Maewing is Genderless, you can still somehow breed it! (Don’t ask me how that works because i have no clue.) and when you do breed Maewings, you get double the eggs! Also the Maewing has very fast mobility and is super easy to tame being the only Genesis Part 2 exclusive creature needing a classic tranq tame! 10/10 best breeding dino in Ark.

There’s a reason to why these can glide better than rock drakes. I’m an expert on squirrels myself and know Flying squirrels irl live in North America mainly and can glide 150 feet to even 500. They don’t fly, they glide. They glide by using the flaps of skin stretching between their legs and hands to catch the air. The flaps of skin are called Patagium. They use their tail to be a rudder to steer in the air to escape predators and have large eyes to see at night as they are nocturnal. Also, a prehistoric Flying squirrel named Maio patagium is a spitting image of a flying squirrel we have today. As both sail through the sky’s one in the Jurassic and one in the night of North America. Also, I believe a rock drake would be heavier than a flying squirrel. Anyways I didn’t just now search this up. I know TONS about squirrels and dinosaurs. Hehe not to brag or anything! So to you surprised about maewings flying better, id say it’s because of the reasons above. Ok that’s your daily brain pop! Phew sorry bout my info spree. I like squirrels and dinosaurs. “WE GET IT!”

When taming these, tame high levels because you want a high weight stat so they can carry more berries or meat, then level all points into "nursing effectiveness" which extends the range of how far the "trough" effect will reach. BEFORE putting babies in their care, turn on "enable nursing or baby feeding trough" it's in the radial wheel and IS NOT enabled automatically. Then make sure the trough icon appears above the baby's name. Fill the maewing's inventory with appropriate baby food as you would fill a normal trough for the baby (meat for meat eaters, berries for berry eaters, Wyvern milk for Wyverns, ambergris for Magmasaurs, etc) because the code makes the maewing itself act as a trough for the baby so fill it like a trough.
When mating maewings together, both act as female and drop eggs from each other. The mating cool down timer only means it won't drop another egg until the timer runs out, but that maewing can still act as a male and breed with other maewings that are ready to mate. The maewing that no longer has the cool down timer will drop an egg.
It's tricky to breed them all at once in a large group because they will all automatically breed to each other randomly. You must pair them up together alone to guarantee a 50/50 chance at a certain stat if you are breeding for stats.
Pro tip: pre fill the maewing with baby's food and enable nursing on it and take the maewing up to the egg incubator. When you hatch your eggs, imprint them and then use the maewing to scoop them up into the baskets for easy transport.
