Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a dunkleosteus? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a dunkleosteus.
Don't aim for head I suggest trapping it in a sea cave or you could shoot above the point in which it swims
Don't hit the head it does less torpor (just like the pachy) so hit the body.
Found in the really deep sea…….
While taming watch out for other deep sea creatures like Electrophorus.
Tuso’s ignore their armor and knock them within 20 minutes, highly recommend using one if you don’t want to waste resources
I dont know why the dododex consider dunkles torpor drain as high, just keep hitting it with tranq just like regular tame, it drops pretty slow compared to other tames that classified as high torpor drain. You didn't even need narcotics to tame it. But maybe it classifies as high torp whenever you miss your tranq arrow, because it is dropping fast.
Ride on the back of a good sarco and you can shoot at these dudes from it and easily keep up with them. 600% crossbow and it took about 40 tranqs for a 140. Great find
If you’re taming a 150+ bring about 4 crossbows, 400 tranq arrows, an ichty, kibble or mutton and a lot of patience.
They receive ruduced damage on both their head and their body so it doesn't matter where you are shooting them.
He will flee as soon as any torpor is dealt, which means you can trap him against a underwater cliff to tame him. He takes superior or snake kibble on mobile, and can break stone and gets tons of oil when tamed.
Took approx 300 spears to knock out a 150 x dunk, used 3 ramshackle harpoon launchers. When tranqing, keep your distance and it won't attack the trap. Which is useful bc they break stone.
I don't know if there was an update or what, but the 150 dunk I tranqed took 40 arrows less than dododex told me, and I had my exact weapon damage inputted.
Build a 3x3 trap on a plesio patform standing on pillars as far back and high as you can go.
Dunkleo and sharks won't be able to attack plesio from inside. Trank risk free. Swim away when it fell asleep. Similar to quetz, just no need to have back wall removed/placed to catch it, the will swim thru the wall if you move. Once inside , just stop moving and it's trapped.
Want to knock it out easy grab it with a squid and walk away when you come back it will be knocked out.
Instead of writing tips comparing the in-game creature to the real life animal and begging the devs to unbalance the in-game creature to make it more realistically resemble the real life animal, here's an actual helpful tip to tame the dunkleosteus:
Recommended items: scuba tank, compound bow, crossbows in case one breaks, couple stacks of tranq arrows, compound bow, 25 metal arrows
Recommended level: level 81 (this is just the level where the scuba tank engram unlocks since every tip just says to tranq the dunkleosteus but never how long it takes before you risk drowning)
1. Get an ichthy, a scuba tank, and at least 200 tranq arrows if you're knocking out a 150 since this thing has armor all over its body so it takes 60% less damage from ranged attacks
2. Find a dunkleosteus and using the compound bow kill all aggressives in the area minus the dunkleosteus
3. Using the crossbow shoot the dunkleosteus while facing away from the edge of the map, this should make the dunkleosteus start fleeing away from you and towards the terrain which if you're lucky enough this will force the dunkleosteus to start swimming to the surface.
4. If somehow your dunkleosteus manages to swim all the way to the surface while attempting to flee from you (this seems to happen with higher level dunkles) keep tranqing it while staying behind it as since it is in shallow water it will stop moving.
5. After a long time your dunkleosteus will finally be knocked out and you can use raw meat to tame if you're on singleplayer and it won't wake up before its tamed or if you're on multiplayer using raw meat will take too long and it will wake up so you have to use raw prime meat.
6. You now have a tamed dunkleosteus that hits like a truck, can harvest rocks that are underwater (pretty much only oily rocks as regular rocks only spawn underwater in certain places like herbivore island), and has really bad stamina so you will run out of stamina trying to swim between oily rocks plus its slower than a megalodon.
Good melee damage when maxed and really fast when tamed
I tamed a lvl 40 Dunkle with around 60 tranq arrows and 10 toxicant ones. Insta tamed it with titanoboa kibble (using 10x soothing balm boost). It's pretty hard to knockout and takes quite some time in my experience at least.
This thing is tough and you will see this on the deepest water on ark but this thing is slow and sometimes passive sometimes aggressive you can tame this but you need to trap this but be careful the bite of this is like a Rex but you can use this as Rock farmer
For Fjordur: actually very common spawns, but only at the bottom of sea trenches. When prepping to tame, be sure to clear out any sea scorpions or Megs nearby, or you'll be making drunk fish food.
X-Dunkys took me a lot more tranq arrows than Dododex would suggest, especially considering my 745% crossbow - that still took around 30 shots. Body shots are ideal, since the head is heavily armored.
Be careful starve taming! They don't wake up fast, but they eat very slowly, and mine wouldn't eat the last kibble piece when I dropped in all the ones dododexs calculator said. Let it starve an extra hundred or so food to avoid that happening to you!
DO BE CAUTIOUS WITH TRANQ ARROWS!!! I was with my sarco lookin for one of these and I found one (😃) so I went to town with the arrows, when an angeler came outta nowhere. I bit it once and it died. I also bit the dunky, a few arrows latter it just… died. (😱) so use a harpoon instead!
