Chapter 33: The Obelisk

Part 3/5

The trip to the Green Obelisk was very uneventful, surprisingly enough. Goofy very easily took care of any Raptors that attempted to attack them, and even the occasional Carnotaurus was dismissed as nothing more than a pest.

“Having these beasts is very important,” Samuel thought, “Clearly, they are the key to survival here. But will they be the key to escape?”

Samuel knew that they were only part of the equation. Making allies with others was just one variable. So was domesticating the dinosaurs here on this island. But where are there other variables?

“Maybe knowledge is one of them,” Samuel thought as he stared at Rick. He was squinting his eyes at his own book, flipping back and forth as if one of the pages were missing. He had a shard of flint in his hands. It looked like he was taking notes.

“I know Rick knows something the others don’t. Maybe I should talk to him some other time,” Samuel thought as he looked ahead. At this point the Green Obelisk was just a hundred more feet away or so. Soon they would finally arrive and see what all of the fuss was about.

Suddenly, someone bumped into Samuel. He looked to his right to see Aurora walking alongside him, and she was staring right at him.

“What’s wrong? You look like you’re deep in thought,” Aurora gently asked. Samuel turned away, annoyance striking his face.

“Nothing. Just thinking. About the next step,” Samuel replied.

“Okay, okay,” Aurora said, closing her eyes gently. Samuel couldn’t help but huff in annoyance. He didn’t know what to do with her. He knew that she probably liked him, but what would happen if he rejected her? Would things be the same? What could the consequences be? And what if she didn’t really like him?

“I’ll just wait, for now,” Samuel thought as the forest began to clear away.

And soon enough, the Obelisk was there, in all of its glory. Samuel had never seen it up close, but one thing he knew was it was pretty damn ominous. It was made out of some sort of metal, and a light green beam poured from the obelisk and down onto the ground. The Obelisk was like some floating, metal tower. The top of the tower eerily resembled the implants the others had, down to the last minute detail.

“This is definitely by design,” Samuel muttered, “It’s leading me to believe that this was all planned by somebody.”

Skyler pointed ahead at a metal platform that hung on an island beneath the beam of green light.

“Right over there. We have to get there. That’s where we’ll attain its power.”

Unfortunately, the island was surrounded by water, and there was only one pathway to get there. And that pathway was blocked by a giant, sleeping Brontosaurus. The gentle giant swung its tail back and forth gently. Everyone groaned at the sight.

“Ugh. Great. That fatty is blocking the way,” Paige scoffed, tapping her club against the grass.

“What are we gonna do now?” Neddy asked, looking around, “I mean. There’s gotta be another way, right?”

“We could jump the gap,” Ruby confidently claimed.

“No. We’re not doing that,” Paige snorted.

“We need to lead the Bronto out of here,” Sunny decided. Everyone turned to her.

“And how are we supposed to do that?”

Sunny hopped onto Stream’s back, tugging at the reins tightly.

“I’ll attack it, and it’ll move away that way.”

“What?!” Skyler burst out, “That is far too dangerous! There must be another solution!”

“It’s fine. That thing is big and slow. It’ll never catch up to me. Besides, I can lead it to the river. That’ll slow it down even more,” Sunny claimed, “Just, let’s just meet up later, kay? Back here at the Obelisk. It’ll be quick.”

Skyler let out a sigh, waving at Stream.

“Fine. Go for it… and good luck.”

Sunny grinned, tugged on the reins, and Stream was off. The group closely followed behind, and Stream was approaching the giant closer and closer. Rick was gritting his teeth, clenching his knife tightly.

“Hiyah!” Sunny cried out as Stream jumped forward and latched onto the Brontosaurus. Stream began to dig its claws into it and tore a chunk of its flesh off. The Brontosaurus’ tail moved around uncomfortably, whipping and snapping at the air. With a slam, it caused a chunk of the earth to fall into the abyss of water below the Obelisk.

KASPLASH!

A stream of water rose into the air, and the Brontosaurus slowly made its way up onto its feet. At this point Sunny and Stream were on the run. Sunny tugged on the reins once more, and Stream lunged away toward the riverbanks. The Brontosaurus’ neck moved around, and after spotting its attacker it slowly began to march away. Its steps caused the ground to tremor, and Samuel closed his ears at the sound. It was almost as if earthquakes were shaking the island.
