Hello! Here is an overview of the griffin (Old Ark mobile players go to the Royal Griffin page). I recommend trapping them, but it is possible to take a griffin without a trap, but it can be difficult. Griffins are known to be very hard to trap. (Not to advertise, but I recommend Captainfatdog’s griffin trap on YouTube.) You will likely need a lot of biotoxin/narcoberries/narcotics. When tamed, they are the fastest fliers in the game. They can strafe (move freely) in all directions, glide, and you can use weapons on their back. You can only breed griffins on Ascended, and you can breed Royal Griffins on Old Mobile. Their glide can make them move at incredible speeds. In order to glide, you must not be holding anything in your hand (even maps and spyglasses) and look down. It takes them a couple of seconds of nose diving to reach terminal velocity (max speed). If you dived correctly, you will see wind effects near your griffin’s wings and you will hear a loud wind noise. You also must be sprint flying to glide. The glide speed still affects you when you land so you will run very fast. Griffins are the only flier you can use weapons on. You can also stand on their backs but sometimes it will glitch and you fall through so keep a parachute with you if you are going to dismount in the air. They have 3 different attacks; normal, dive bomb, and dive swipe. You can use the dive bomb attack by diving straight down onto a creature/player. The dive swipe is the strongest attack. You use it by diving at a creature but instead of just diving, you attack while you are still going down. You do not need a saddle to fly a griffin. You do not need a saddle to ride a griffin. The Griffin's turning radius is so big that if you position yourself correctly you can stand still and the Griffin will go in cirles around you forever.

You need to use TRANQ DARTS after the griffin nerf.

i’m a lazy guy, and i don’t usually use traps when i tame things, other than BIG things like a reaper queen or a giga, but THIS IS THE EXCEPTION. unless your dad is apollo, it is impossible to knock one of these guys out without using a trap, for my case anyway. they are ridiculously fast, and they will circle you and attack you. however, the griffin is worth the trouble. it’s one of the fastest fliers, does devastating damage compared to other fliers, other than your typical high-level argy, doesnt need a saddle to ride, can fit two people, and not to mention it looks amazing. however, it can’t pick up many things, it can only pick up smaller creatures. if you carry cryopods around with you though, this shouldn’t be a problem. -J

Just a tip, don't let your careless and cocky tribemates ride it in the first 5 minutes of it being tamed

You CAN tame them with a crossbow.

Wait 5-7 seconds between shots and there is no way you will kill it. Torpor raises over time, arrows/darts are not instant.

You do not "have to have" tanq darts.

There I was, staring into the face of death. I pointed my mighty crossbow at the beast head. And was eaten by a saber tooth. Make sure you clear out the area before taking the griffin on.
