Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a wyvern? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a wyvern.
This is the strat on single player…
1) First you tame any expendable flier of any level (for me it was a lvl 44 lymantria)
2) fly to the edge of the wyvern trench, far enough away as to avoid aggravating any belligerent wyvern. There you will place down a sleeping bag and a storage box for food, clothing, weapons, and a cryopod containing an escape dinosaur (for me I used my lvl 120 Argent.)
3) find egg, fly out of the trench and over to the opposite side of where you put your sleeping bag and storage box.
4) let the wyverns kill you and let your sacrificial flier become a martyr for humanity
5) respawn at sleeping bag near the wyvern trench and un-cryo your Argent.
6) once the wyverns that followed and killed you and your sacrifice have dispersed, retrieve your item cache that you dropped when you died and obtain your egg.
7) Fly back to your base and hatch/raise your wyvern, with either wyvern milk or the daedon strategy.
If you use daedon strategy, prepare a truckload of food for your daedon beforehand so that it can heal your baby wyvern.
If you use wyvern milk, either go back to the trench and find a lone female wyvern, grab its attention and shoot it with a net projectile and tranq the freak out of it until it is unconscious. Grab milk and leave. If you are lucky you may find the occasional lone wyvern that spawns outside the trench. Use same strategy here as you did at the trench. The best thing about finding a lone wyvern outside the trench is if you remember where it is, you can come back and repeat the same process.
Thanks to this strategy I now have a lvl 76 female poison wyvern named Petra. Now others can see a relatively easy way to obtain a wyvern egg
I just hatched a fire wyvern, and it’s super cool looking… completely white with wings that start out light orange and deepen into red toward the tips! Kinda looks like an alpha without the glow😆
I noticed Dododex recommended “ideal temperature” when hatching Wyvern eggs is inflated! I believe it says 176-194 •F. I’m using 7 A/C units and the temperature is 94 •F
There's a way to raise baby wyvern without milk: must tam a snow owl or daedon and keep healing the baby until its fully grown. Your wyvern won't die trust me bro 😀. I would recommend tam a daedon for auto healing than snow owl, guess nobody want to take care a baby only.
To hatch an egg I do 35 campfires in a U-ish shape
If trapping isn’t working out for you, go hunting for alpha Wyverns which drop 50 milk each - keep that in a preserving bin with salt and you should be set for a good portion of the tame.
Do not try to hatch an egg near the wyvern trench. when u drop the egg the wyverns will come out and try to kill u. But the wyverns that come out are only females you can use this to ur advantage to get milk.
To find out when it needs to be feed I set a times for how long it takes the wyvern to lose 1 point in food and times that with how much food it has then divide that by 60 then divide that number by 60 and that’s how many hours you have to feed (more if out of render)
Example: Wyvern has 1234/4699 it take 10 seconds to lose 1 point .
1234 x 10 = 12,340 seconds
12,340 divided by 60 = 205.66 minutes
205.66 divided by 60 = 3.4 hours !
This time also increase because food drain gets slower as it grows and render also plays apart. So this is the safest time to check on the baby !!
Make a zeppelin and build a box on top of it. Next get a oviraptor on follow just behind you inside said box. Fly over to a nest and land on the nest and stop driving the zeppelin. Turn around and take egg from oviraptor without aggroing wyverns then fly and repeat.
Wyverns may occasionally still aggro but they don't stop after awhile your zeppelin can take the hits and hopefully get close to wild dinos to get wyvern to aggro on them.
Aside from that only risk is if oviraptor clips through zeppelin if not careful.
IF YOU HAVE BOBS TALES, the barrel is extremely useful and can preserve milk in a sealed barrel for like 18 hrs also with the help of some preserving salts
Yall are gonna think I’m totally lame for some of this, but it’s good for everyone to know how other people go about taming these things.
First, I’m on mobile, and when getting a wyvern proved wayyy too hard on scorched earth, I bought ragnarok specifically to tame one of these. I ground xp, found a good ptero and found the world scar in rag, ventured in and got brutally murdered, even though I had my player resistance up to max so I was “untouchable”, then I met a poison wyvern. Turns out they kill you a different way than the others.
So, I die, thinking it’s all hopeless and sad and I’ll never get a wyvern, so I start to build a teeny little base, then I find out about the crystal cavern… a heavenly place supposedly filled to the brim with wyvern eggs.
I venture in timidly with my only tame(a lvl 212 ptero) and I go searching. Nothing. I narrowly avoid the wyverns in there and I get out alive to try again another day.
Finally, I go again. This time, I hit it! A lvl 55 lightning wyvern egg! Not the level I wanted, but definitely the element I wanted. So I yoink it and leave, barely escaping the clutches of the angry wyverns on my tail.
I set up 16 camp fires and get the egg incubating… now I need to knock a female for milk, cause I can’t use cryopods… not enough keys.
I venture out with my ptero to go find a female… well, they spawn like crazy in front of the crystal cavern as well as inside of it, so I start by leaving my ptero somewhere safe while I go with a standard bow and tranqs to go see if I can knock a female. Well, I get killed by a poison wyvern again, and so does my ptero.
Misery and sadness, and fifteen minutes left on my incubation timer. I go back out with a standard bow in lvl 85 ptero to find an alpha wyvern!!!
I decide I’m going to cheat for this one since I need the milk, and I turn the Dino resistance down to 400000x damage and I use my ptero to knock it out of the sky, killing the ptero in the process. I get my milk, and I literally run all the way back home 1 and a half minutes before my wyvern hatches.
I crafted a preserving bin and now I’ve got 45 milk for my lil baby!
Mind, I cheated slightly,(a lot) just due to wanting one to try it out. I don’t have god console, but I mess with the settings to benefit my player and tames if I need to.
I ground to lvl 100 and i have the most basic tools: stone hatchets and picks and good ole bow and arrow.
I hope you guys enjoy my story. I’m not a regular cheater, mind. I’ve built a very powerful stronghold from scratch before, have tamed gigas and carches the hard way several times, rhynios, you name it. This is my first wyvern!
If you’re having issues finding eggs, the crystal cavern is the only place I’ve found them so far, so try it out. But watch out, wyverns are extremely strong and scary. If I’d been doing it the hard hard way, (the easy way is still realllly hard) it would’ve taken so much longer. These beasts do not get trifled with for no reason.
Good luck, fellow players!!!
You need at least 15 standing torches to incubate an egg.
1.kill some penguin to get polymer
2.tame pteranodon (don't forget to whistle passive)
3.place beds nearby the wyvern nest (but far enough not to aggro wyvern)
4.sneak and grab the egg
5.fly away near the bed
6.eat polymer
7.died and wait a moment before respawn at bed
8.go collect your corpse and ptera then repeat these steps again
I not sure why but when I kill myself, the wyvern didn't attack my ptera anymore. I use 1 ptera to sneak in and repeat this trick >>> I got 3 wyvern eggs
If you live near an obelisk you can store milk, prime meat (or really anything) indefinite inside on a single player world by taking the iteam out in a different world than you originally got it than putting it back into the obelisk and than accessing that obelisk in the original world.
on ragnarok if you approach the wyvern canyon from the beach to the north you can enter through a small cave where often there is eggs but no wyverns protecting them. take the eggs and often the wyverns wont even agro. I got 5 eggs from one trip with an argy, without even seeing a wyvern.
This Is my guess/hypothesis if you leave a wyvern egg sitting on its nest for a long time and you get it after so long you have a big chance of getting triplets. Trust me I did it my first wyvern egg and I got triplets.
To get a wyvern:
1 Find a wyvern cave
2: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FAST BIRD
3: Make sure there are NOO dragons close
3: If you spot a EGG fly in snatch it then fly OUT if you do all this YAY! You got a egg
4: Drop the egg at base AND put it in a fridge
5: Go back to the cave Ko a wyvern GIRL open her inventory grab the milk FLY OUT
6: Put the the 🥚 in 15 torches in a circle then wait
7: feed it raw meat and it will ask for wyvern milk so the milk spoils FAST and I ran out so put the milk in the frig. Hopefully that helped!
See you next time!
I have an adult lightning now, after a crap ton of tribulation and continuous deaths, and a lot of patience.
I’ve decided to just use incredibly high level pteros with levels pumped into speed and health so that I can go into the wyvern cavern by just speeding through the wyverns guarding the entrance, dodging them and getting inside the cave. Then, I carefully look around for an egg.
Last run I got a lvl 100 fire wyvern egg, but the adult was right next to it, so I landed right next to the wyvern and its egg, grabbed the egg and jumped right off the cliff and swam back home, since they don’t aggro you in water.
RIP lvl 260 ptero. Useful suicide birds.
Guys, if you're on a BOOSTED server, and you're raising a high level wyvern (180-185 for example) you WON'T need any wyvern milk, my wyvern is currently at 93.3% growth, and she still has 400 points of food left. It's because as they get older, they'll start losing hunger much slower. But remember, this is only because of the maturation boost, so don't do it if your wyvern takes days to grow. Support me so people won't waste their time getting precious wyvern milk.
Milk female wyverns.. not the males.. Make sure before you gotta target ok?
