Tips & Strategies

So far I've only seen people suggesting knock out methods that either don't often work or just take more resources and time than is necessary....
I tamed a lv 270 Trike with my method and it was super easy and afterwards it was lv 400+ and is the main Dino I take with me when I wander and I put ALL stats into HP, and Attack. Putting some into stamina til you have around 1k stamina isn't a bad idea as that allows you to last through long fights that require you to rapid attack the entire time.
Easy and high lv Trike method that works on ALL lv Trikes.
Step 1. Craft around 200 tranq arrows to allow for mistakes.
Step 2. Bring 1 crossbow and 2 bows just in case something unexpected happens.
Step 3. Stand as far away as possible while still being able to land a shot so you can get a head start.
Step 4, shoot and run while not looking back for like 7 seconds, then turn around and fire your bow while walking backwards, the bow allows for faster firing but provides less Torpor than the Crossbow unless it's an ascendant bow. When it gets within say 10 feet of you turn around and run. Rinse and repeat til knocked out. Takes like 2 minutes.
The slow, hard, time consuming method..... Only effectively works for low lv Trikes between lv 1and lv 30 due to the large amount of stones needed. For Reference you will want around 250-300 stone and 3-5 slingshots for a lv 40.
Step 1. Make your house out of wood or stone, wood is easier to do early on.
Step 2. Leave 1 wall off so that you can fire your slingshot from inside the safety of your home.
Step 3. Find a low lv Trike no higher than lv 40 if you want an effective tame that doesn't take all day in game to knock out.
Step 4. Stand at max range from Trike since you are likely a super low lv and very slow with limited stamina.
Step 5. Land 1 shot with the slingshot, turn and run full speed towards your house. Only look back at your own risk if you think he or she is no longer chasing you or is somehow stuck. Don't attempt to climb rocks as any rock you can jump onto from the ground lv they are able run straight up and over.
Step 6. Remember that wall I told you to leave off your house?? Run straight towards it and jump to enter your house through that.
Step 7. Stand close enough that it stays aggro to you but far enough back where it can't attack you.
Step 8. Dinos are sneaky in ARK. It will act like it's getting close to unconscious several times, do not think it's running away and leave the safety of your house unless it just keeps going the other way without turning around at you. To prevent it from aggroing onto something else or not coming back just step into the door like area without dropping to the ground while firing off shots at its "retreating form" unless close to unconscious it will turn back and charge at you.
Basically the only good garunteed way to tame a Trike before you get Tranq arrows and a bow.
More Triceratops Taming & KO Tips
This is what’s you’ll need to tame it:narco berries narcotics tranq arrows and some wood structures. Step one: make a taming trap. Make it big Enough so the trike can’t get out make a ramp into the trap and a small door for a survivor to fit in. Step two: Hit the trike run into the trap and go through the small door. Step three get on top of the ramp and start shooting it with Tranq arrows. Also DON’T SHOOT AT THE HEAD THEY HAVE EXTRA PROTECTION THERE.step four:once it’s knocked out put your narco berries and narcotics in the trike and wait for it to be tamed.
I don’t know why I should be telling you this but I just tamed my first trike. I’m overjoyed. It was very hard for me and I almost died, but I tamed him. Ignore this if you want.
First, for low levels, I suggest finding one that is stuck in between two trees which is surprisingly common. I used a crossbow, but you could just use a bow. Craft tranq arrows. Shoot at the belly, and try to do it quickly before it can get free. I suggest 4-6 tranq arrows, maybe more for a higher level. I brought a few narcotics just in case, but I didn’t use any so you don’t necessarily have to. Bring about 20-40 berries, probably more, and you’ll most likely have extra. Put it in the triceratops’s inventory and wait (in my experience it went up by 2%, so make sure you’re ready for a wait). If you leave it’s side the taming will still go up. After it is tamed, name it!
Extra: bolas will NOT work, if you use them they will start to attack.
Uses: they can be extremely strong (I have seen a group of 2-3 trikes kill a sarco, which is a much more high-level tame). Once a saddle is crafted, they are not very fast but they do collect thatch easily from trees as well as short amounts of wood. They get much more berries from a single bush than you can. They do not jump when you’re riding.
Thanks for reading! Sorry it was so long. Please up for the noobs to see! And of course, have a nice day.
Ok so you make a trap using wood 4 foundations 1 doorway w no door 7 walls and a ramp you hit the trike go up the ramp and trap it then tranq arrow the body
In Soviet Russia trike tame u
Never slingshot or shoot tranq arrows at the trike’s head. They have extra protection there. aim for the body instead.
It's not as hard as I thought to Knock it out I did it with a wooden club (definitely dint die like 4 times)it was only a level 4 but it's cool (boost this so low level beginners can see).
I think trikes give you more berries.up if you think to
How to tame easy:shoot it with tranq arrows and run then shoot and do that and lead it into the water away from the shore then go to shore and keep shooting it and then feed it berries
I remember the day when I tamed my first trike on hardcore mode. I tamed a 145 using a few tranq arrows. I rode it around the beaches of the southern islets collecting berries.
It was on the trike that I spent my first weeks on the island. Back in the day, the ark felt so huge, so vast, it was impossible to fully explore.
It was also on my trike that I encountered the first dangers of the island. When i was building my hut, a carno charged out of the woods, coming towards us. I was sure I was dead, and then, my trike came into view. One strike, two strikes, and the carno fell off the cliff. Gravely wounded, the carno lost interest.
In the first month or so on the island, the trike was the most useful tame I had. Countless times it saved me from hungry raptors, rexes, and more. It helped me through the toughest early days, collecting thatch, wood, and berries.
When I was about to enter the tek cave, I said goodbye to most of my tames. I remembered the early days with me and my trike, exploring the wild jungles and unforgiving northern peaks, and how I built all from scratch, to the army of theris and Rexes I had now.
My trike would stay on the island, but as the overseer sent me towards the sands of scorched earth, I was one step closer to bringing the arks home.
