Tips & Strategies

What are tips for thylacoleo? Tips and strategies for thylacoleo in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Found out the hard way that these ARE in Ultimate Mobile Edition... flying will not save you, they cling high up on trees. Keep turrets on your platform base and avoid redwoods at night, don't make the mistake I did
The redwoods are now basically a no fly zone, I lost a quetz, and a pter to these b******s. They jump out of the tree, rip you off your mount, and then pin you and your mastercraft armor to the ground and murder you.
My hate for these guys is immeasurable
It all started when I played ark for the first time, I had managed to tame a high level tapejara and absolutely love him. I named him Barry and we set off on many adventure exploring the island. On day I was just flying through the redwoods and usual taunting the carnivores below me for not being able to touch me. BAM the thylacolia jumped out the trees and ripped me off Barry. Barry was whistled on nuetral and as he came down to aid me a desperately tried to get him on passive, but I was panicking, my screen shook as I was terrified as this was my first encounter of one. I tried to punch it but I inevitably died. I respawned and immediately got on my pteradon but just as I got on the saw the message in big red letters that Barry had fallen to the thylacoleo.
My Barry rest in peace
You can't even run from these. Just accept your quick and painful death.
"The Day ARK Punished Me for Wanting a High level Thylacoleo"
I don’t even know where to start, but I’m writing this so no one else has to go through what I did.
I spent hours searching the Redwoods for a Thylacoleo.
Not exaggerating 3 hours straight, nothing.
So I did what any sane ARK player would do: I stopped hunting and prepared properly.
I built:
a trap
campfires
a preserving bin
a bed
I even cooked around 50 prime meat on campfires and stored it in the preserving bin, just so I wouldn’t lose effectiveness when the tame finally happened.
To make it even safer, I tamed a Parasaur and set it on turret mode and carried it with argy so that I could find a thyla.
Everything was ready so that when I found a Thyla, nothing could go wrong.
Then I searched again.
2 more hours. Nothing.
At this point I was frustrated, so I brought my already-tamed Thyla and started clearing the Redwoods, killing everything to force respawns. I did this for another 2 hours.
That’s when something started killing me on the ground.
I turned around…
A level 150 Thylacoleo
Perfect colors
3920 HP
Just randomly walking on the ground like it wanted to mock me.
I somehow survived, dragged it toward my trap, but realized I needed my Argentavis to pick it properly. So I parked my tamed Thyla far away and went back with my Argy.
Big mistake.
The wild Thyla almost killed my Argy level 250, around 10k HP, nearly died multiple times. I spent one full hour trying to:
pick it up
save my Argy
reposition the Thyla
not die
Finally, finally, it was almost inside the trap.
Then a few Raptors spawned.
They aggroed my tamed Thyla.
Before I could react, my own Thylacoleo attacked the wild one.
I tried everything:
whistling passive
picking up dinos
separating them
Nothing worked.
My tamed Thyla killed the perfect level 150 Thylacoleo.
After hours of searching, preparing, cooking prime meat, setting up alarms, and fighting the game itself it died by my own hand without me touching it.
I rage quit.
I uninstalled the game.
If you’re reading this:
Never bring a tamed Thylacoleo while hunting a wild one.
ARK will find a way to punish you.
Learn from my pain.
Trust me..ALWAYS AMKE A TRAP AND BRING NARCOS)only if it’s decently high level BUT BRING A TRAP)
pro tip: if you can't find a thyla but are too afraid to risk your flier, just park the bird at a safe spot, give it all your stuff, plop down a sleeping bag and run naked through the woods until you get assaulted by the flying murder marsupial. ezpz
They prefer cooked meat over raw. Don't waste your precious raw mutton, better cook it, as it tames faster and with higher efficiency.
Thylacoleo has a bleed effect that does % of hp damage over a small amount of time. i killed my first titanosaur with my thyla but attacking and running when it agro’d BUT you can’t let the bleeding deal the finishing blow. This just happened and my thyla and I didn’t get the xp.
Hit the sky button so people don’t make my mistake and miss out on heaps of xp 🤥
Yall this ain’t a kitten it’s a koala on steroids
I was upset the app doesn't have it listed in Fjördur, but Thylas are actually on the map. Let's try to get it updated!
Set a parasaur on turret mode and fly over redwoods carrying it with a flyer. Any of these things will get marked.
Thylacoleo are capable of pinning down flyers in mid-flight (anything but the Quetz and Wyvern, I believe), other Thylacoleo, and even Therizinos. You can also jump from object to object by holding down the jump button while pouncing from a tree or cliff (have to hit it at the right angle, however).
It's basically the Randy Orton of Ark.
It just RKOS's you outta nowhere...
These cats always perfectly land on your back.
(We love you Cole! :D)
You can use a snow owl's heat vision ablitiy to see thylas in trees!
Once you find the desired Thylacoleo, youre gonna build a 2×2×2 trap (a boy with 2 high walls) made from stone doorways. Then, let the thylacoleo pounce on you (wear armor, otherwise youre dead), punch it with fists, so you dont damage it. Once its not pounced on you, get on an argentavis, pick it up, carry it into the trap. From there, knock it out. You should use a crossbow and tranq arrow minimum. But a longneck and tranq darts are better. Beware! Once unconscious, the creature loses torpor fast, so if its a high level, make sure you feed it narcotics, so it stays asleep. Raw prime meat or extraordinary kibble is what you should use to tame it. You get the saddle at level 51, costs 18 engram points, and you need 290 hide, 155 fiber, and 20 metal ingot. These creatures are very good for caves. They deal bleed damage, meaning alongside with normal damage, the bitten creature loses 5% of its health in the matter of a few seconds. I hope this answers most of your questions about the Thylacoleo. Good luck taming, Survivors!
Fly around on an argie while holding a parasaur on turret mode, the parasaur will sense it but make sure the thylacoleo can't reach you by flying high above so it hits the parasaur rather than you.
They will jump on you and murder you even if you're on a fricking wyvern. You are not safe from them no matter what animal you have. Just accept your slow and tender death. I learned it the hard way lmao. Scared the fckng hell out of me
Wanna find one? Simply mind your own business flying through the redwoods and they'll find you! Just make sure you can take some fall damage and that your tame is set to passive so it doesnt kill the thyla. (I know this seems like a joke but this is legit the only way I know how to find them.)
