Encountering Tips

How do I kill a thylacoleo? thylacoleo battling strategies in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Redwood on Fjordur is a FLY ZONE, Thlyas only spawn on the ground, not on the trees!!!!
Honestly When I was flying low on the island with my pteradon for it to land. A thyla came outa no where scaring the crap outa me. And knock me off but the best way to escape is either. Get back to your flying mount quickly to escape. Or tame it.
If you wanna find them easily just tame a parasaur and use an arge to carry it into the red woods. Have the parasaur on turret mode so it can tell you where the thyla is. It may take a while but I see this as the safest way to find them. You just have to move slowly through.
When a Dire Wolf meets a Sabertooth and they raise it like a monkey.
They’ll hit you through your shield when you’re pinned so don’t even bother putting it up. Your best bet which has worked wonders for me is immediately switching to your machete and start swinging the moment you get knocked out of your flyer
Just fly over the trees and only land in openings when going over redwoods. Learned this lesson the hard way but I only let it happen once!
Say good bye to your life basically
These guys are amazing. So far only found them in redwoods. Found 1 in a tree the other fighting on ground.
You want to explore the red woods?
Tough
These guys obviously don’t want you to. Fortunately there is a way to avoid being ripped of your mount and ripped to shreds. Thylacoleos never attack Megatheriums. I was riding through the redwoods on my megatherium and I ran into one. Like I actually walked into it and didn’t even seem to notice me. I checked the level and it was a 145 so I shot while I rode my sloth and tamed it. Like this tip if you found this tip helpful and so others won’t get eaten.
P.S this is very helpful for taming.
Literally a decent crossbow, sword, or spear will get you out of this situation under lvl 90. Just attack when you get hit don't sit there and die.
These guys are literally the Kapros of the trees 😭Though I hate them less because I adore them as tames
Dispite how effective these things ambush is, it abides by a few simple rules that allows you to dodge a thylacoleo attack.
1. Wild thylos in ambush position have no gravity. When a wild thylo jumps at you it can go forever at a constant speed and can even jump at things flying above it. When a thylo is tamed it cannot do this and will eventually fall to the ground. Flying away in the same direction that the thylo is jumping is not an option as this zero gravity affect will last until you are out of range of the thylo.
2. Thylacoleos lead their targets. If you are moving fast through a thylo's targeting range it will jump ahead of you to compensate for the time it takes for them to get to you.
3. Thylacoleos cannot change speed or direction of a jump. The only movement a thylo can make while airborn is a rotation. Since it leads targets, stopping as soon as you hear a thylo causes it to miss as it plummets to the location it thought you would go to. This wont work if your tame is slow.
4. Thylacoleos prioritize the closest prey in this order: player/small wild dino, small tamed dino, passenger. Sitting in the passenger seat of a dino won't usually help as the thylo can rip the mount from under you and target it instead.
5. Thylacoleos can share trees. It is rare but thylacoleos can be in the same tree or in adjacent trees. This is the worst thing to happen to you in a redwood forrest as both thylos can jump at you, one snagging you and the other grabbing your tame. That being said, if one jumps at you don't relax because there could be another one close by.
6. Thylacoleos will only be in ambush position on the bark parts of large redwood trees. You will never see a thylacoleo climb a tree or ambush you from the leaves of a tree. They will also only climb a tree when out of render distance.
With these rules in mind: if you have a slower tame, a thylo will not lead enough where you can dodge it. Have your flyer on passive and come back to collect it. If your tame is relatively fast you can dodge it by flying out of its path (under, over, strafe). Make sure to not fly directly at trees so that they don't have a straight shot to you. Any land based tames have on neutral and be sure they can kill a thylo in two hits or so.
Stay safe.
If you're ever strolling through redwoods, make sure you're dinosaur is on aggressive so they can attack the Thyla. And if your emotionally attached to your shoulder mount like I was, make sure it's on passive flee to it can run away.
So after hearing about things in the redwoods that take you off your mount I went flying about for literally days with no issue what so ever, I’m thinking what’s the big deal? I start hunting for some prime meat and hide to take back to base in time for imprinting and suddenly out of nowhere I’m flying backwards off my argent and am chomped by this guy, lvl 10, I fight back and get released, I am lvl 98, tho I’m quickly killed before I can draw my mastercraft crossbow. My only imprinted bird and my xbow are now with my corpse near the edge of the redwood. My lvl 220 spino munched the tree hugger and I got my bird back after a second trip back to search. Moral of the story, these guys are legit savage and need be tamed ASAP
they are too op I killed 2 lvl 35-100 bronto and my thyla was ok did not even get bloody I named him jumpy but while I was afk on multi-player this mother****ker killed him. 1 like 1 rip to jumpy
Thylo is in Fjordur! Be aware!
If you want to escape this you can. Cuz these things fly these things can knock you off your dinos and then they literally violate them
If you ever go to the redwood Forest, watch out for these things they fly
One of the best dinos in the game! They are really hard to tame but once you get one of these that’s a high level you will be able to do anything!
Tamed a high level while on a stego. Just keep your stego in hardened plate mode feel free to roam around the redwoods without worrying about microraptors and thylas knocking you off. Yeah stegos are so slow but keeps you safe.
