Tips & Strategies

What are tips for thylacoleo? Tips and strategies for thylacoleo in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
The simplest and (almost) safest way to tame a thylacoleo:
1. You will need the best crossbow you can get, some tranq arrows, and be wearing flak armor. Also, very important, a harpoon launcher loaded with net projectiles;
2. Then, wield your harpoon, mount your flyer, and go around flying low in the redwoods showing off the thyla bait (that would be you, btw);
3. When you inevitably get jumped on and are in the middle of a fanged hug on the ground, just shoot your net at the thyla, then pepper it with tranqs on the head before it gets free to murder you;
4. Afterwards, just guard your thyla until tamed and pray no nasties come out: a cryopoded Rex does wonders for emergencies. Good luck!
One the best ground mounts in the game(in my opinion) especially with a fully imprinted one. There is little lake in the redwoods where two can spawn if they aren't any there just clear the area. Oh yeah, Purlovia can spawn there as well.
You can fly in on a quick Dino and pick it up and bring it to a near by taming pen and then do the old fashion knock out and feed.
Don’t fly below the big fat trees because they cling to a tree and will jump on you and push you of
Thylacoleo can be found in the redwoods of the island. Be wary though they can lunge at you from the trees and dismount you from your tame so be alert.
They are not as scary as they seem. They will always stand out on the low-middle part of the tree without leaves. Just be careful if you're moving through any packed tree clusters because it could be waiting just out of view on the other side, circle the area at a distance if you want to be absolutely sure. I've played since 2017 and only ever been dismounted once. If anything, their aggro range when you're on foot is pretty far
They will Not only jump you Off Flyers , one ripped me of my own thyla!
Don't mistake these guys for beehives like i did. R.I.P Chris D'Elia, my favorite argent, and your mastercraft saddle.
Thylacoleos can be found in a redwoods area of the map that you are on. But if you are playing extinction they can be found in the wasteland or sometimes the desert.
I tried trapping one of these guys and every time I got them in the trap, it somehow got out. Maybe I made the trap wrong. I really wanted one of these big cats, then I got an idea! I used the Beelzebufo to knock it out! I put cooked prime meat in its inventory, and a LOT of narcotics. And BOOM!
i live in the redwoods just have a good ape around to pound the fucker
I was planning out my new base I was planning to build neiboring the swamp and redwoods. and well... curiosity killed the cat. if that thing kills my argy, I won't be the only thing curiosity kills.
Was coming back from volcano with 3 new argies and stopped for a minute to get stamina. We were right beside the redwoods and we’re about to leave when a thyla leaped off the tree far behind me and dismounted me. Luckily 3 argies and 2 pterodactyls were too much for it and it was killed easily. Also didn’t lose any dinos. That trip was hectic. We ended up on the opposite side of the map from our base and it too 45 minutes to get home from the volcano. Very dangerous, those redwoods.
Be careful when flying through the trees in the Redwood! They will jump from the trees and snatch you off of your mount.
You'll find them both in the trees and on the ground. If in a tree, shot it down from a distance and once it's on the ground, wait for it to unaggro before chasing it with a bola.
Extremely useful creatures! They can climb player-made structures! I'm not 100% sure if they can climb metal, though.
NEVER EVER land a fliers on the ground
How I tamed two of these bad boys (actually one after another: one female and one male) is that I just encountered them running after some prey, got on high ground with an argentavis and shot one with tranq darts and tranq arrows; it went quickly unconscious but its torpor was draining pretty fast so I had to feed it narcotics (around 30 for an 8 lvl) or even bio toxin; the taming process was stupidly long for both of them, I used a lot of raw prime meat and regular raw meat but apparently they prefer cooked meat from what I've heard?
As I'm writing this, Thylacoleos are probably my favorite tames because of their versatility. I tried to somehow climb a huge redwood tree once I rode this beast and oh boy, it works so good.
Murder Mittens. That is all. These things will knock you off anything. Just stay aware.
Super deadly mounts I have two of them. They’re pretty easy to tame compared to how many times you die to them. You just have to build a trap and you can leave gaps between each wall of the trap because they can’t fit through it, which makes it easier for you to shoot them down with train Trank arrows also it only takes 4 to 5 arrows and if you feed them cooked prime meat, you only need five the best way to do. It is to lower them in the trap and they’ll try to break it but they’ll stick their heads through an accident because they can get that through and then they don’t actually damage the trap and you can reuse it over and over. Make sure to have a bell moth Dino gate or a normal one either one works because they’re not that big but once you tame them, they will be the best one in the game. They can kill an Alpha raptor, no problem. Also, if you want to escape them in amount just fly above the trees and if you’re in the trees, minimum height would be 2/3 of the way up because they can’t climb the rest of the way but when you tame them, they can.
