These guys are my go to wood gatherer for my single player simply because they are carnivores. They will only gather wood and thatch when harvesting trees and not pick up a metric ton of berries like other wood gatherer tames. It's not super hard to empty your dinos inventory of clutter but still nice not to. Also has the added bonus of healing faster because it eats meat.
I don't play with the SP boosted stats checked so in a fight it can take out low to mid level trash especially with back peddling and it's bite attack. Vs. pack creatures and larger tames like Rexes I would definitely recommend you bring other tames as protection.
Pick it up with an argent, let it do some damage as you fly it to a trap. Drop it in. Hide behind a rock and shoot it with tranq arrows. Got a 145 doing this.
Tame one they are so cute like a big bearded dragon
They have about theri aggro range and their first attack is pretty much always spikes so use this to your advantage. Pump up stamina, health and damage for the best thorny dragon. Also drink a stimulant or take stimberrys just to be safe. Their also quite slow but still proceed with caution cus once your knocked out your dead.
These are my favorite mounts. They're the beaver of Scorched Earth. They gather wood very well. The initial carry weight isn't too bad& neither is the health for small fights. So they're also decent battle mounts if leveled properly. One of their biggest assets is their ranged quill attack. In addition to a small amount of damage, it also deals torpor. Not a lot, but could be helpful in aiding knocking dinos out. Overall, they're a great mount in my opinion. They're biggest downside is their slow movement speed. Getting from A to B can take a while. Leveling in Health, Melee, & Movement Speed is highly recommended.
When I was playing I got scared of taming this guy because they always killed me constantly but then I got on a rock and tranqed him and finally got him don’t be afraid to take this guy
Sit on a small ledge so they can't get up, then use a boomerang ( for lower level players), or a bow to kill or tame. When taming, take time between shots to allow torpor to rise, and to avoid spikes.
The sounds it makes... Awww! *scrumch* *grrr* *some weird af sound*
Thorny dragons have a low Aggro radius, so if you don't want to fight one, running past it is simple!
The thorny dragon can be rather a pain to tame as it throws quills at you and the quills end up poisoning you. So I found it easiest to build a 6 by 6 trap 4 walls high all the way around and place a ceiling to stand on so you can look down on it.. you can then use an argy to go pick one up and drop it down into your trap.. once their trapped they can’t whip their tail around anymore so you now have the full advantage… it will poison your argy on the way to the trap so make sure that your trap ain’t to far it doesn’t do much damage to your Argy as long as your quick
They shoot poison. Just be careful. Me and my friend tamed one, and it got killed to fast.
This is the easiest of the wood gatherers to obtain. I'm a solo player on ragnorak. They don't wake up as fast as beavers and don't take as long as mammoths. It's a bit of a distance, but if you have a ptera I'd say find the highest level Thorny Dragon that you can find so it doesn't wake up too fast, then fly to the highlands and kill a sheep or two and mutton tame it.
Use a chain bola and then shoot it from a distance with traq darts
Surround It With Pillars So When It Shoots The Thorns It Is Less Likely To Hit you
I saw a t Rex looking dino attacking weird things, and killed them. I saw the name, it was 2 thorny dragons that died. The dino was actually a carntosaurus, and I was next on its bait.
Try taming them at level 50 or 60 because they are one shots
