The cowboy and the gunslinger

Chapter two

Alan woke up, his whole body aching as he slowly came to his feet. As he looked around, all he saw were the steep, rocky walls of the ravine. As his headache subsided, he began to panic as he wondered how long he had been out and how close Alan was as a result. Adam began walking down the ravine, looking for a way out. But no matter how far he walked, there seemed to be no way of escaping the ravine other than climbing. The bullet wound in his arm had mostly stopped bleeding, but a small trickle of blood still seeped out. Adam couldn’t tell if he was lucky or not that the bullet had passed right through his shoulder. Eventually, the ravine began to have an upward slope. When Adam got to the top, it was getting chilly, and he could see the sun was close to setting, casting an array of yellows and oranges and purples across the sky, blending together like watercolor. Adam knew he had to find a place to start a fire, or he would freeze. Eventually, he came across a small cave, but it was to dark to to start a fire, so he just curled up in a corner of the cave and hoped for the best.
