After you manage to find one of these (usually high in the air, above quetzals. I've had the most luck around 50, 50) you'll want to make a trap. A Trapejara. Make a 3x3 cage out of doorways and put a ceiling on it.

Find your victim.

Fly level to it, using the back center doorway to line it up. Now for the chase, you'll want a quetzal with... a lot of movement speed. Mine is 211 and I struggle sometimes. Fly straight for the Tapejara, and once it clips into the structure, GET OFF OF THE QUETZAL. Your new buddy is trapped and afraid.

If you fail, let it fly out of render distance and try again. It won't be aggro'd anymore and it'll be flying normally do you have another shot.

If you just want to keep chasing it, wait about 15 seconds and it'll re-aggro, pausing for a second to do an animation. This is when I usually catch them.

They are easy to find at gen 2. They spawn commonly at the top left of the map.

Just run at it like crazy and when it does the animation before it flies bola it then shoot it in the head with any bow with tranq arrows

When flying and useing in PvP do not try to pick or bite your target (Argi,quetz,Tera,jara) instead use the maneuverability to doge attacks and wait for the player to run out of stamina then when they land go for the pick but do not hold them for long periods of time seeing how you'll have low health try dropping them in a base with turrets or off a cliff if not available then carry a small distance drop them and use that time to flee to safety or for a tribe mate to get there to assist-add on Xbox HARDCORE PANDA7

It’s a pterosaur. Not a bird, or a rhamporhynch. It’s also not a dinosaur. So why do people keep calling them that? Maybe they don’t do much research on dinos.

It has semi low health but and a bit slower than a pteradon but since it is very manuverable it is an ok mount. Mine died 1 day after taming it because i got too close to a big base 😂

1.Get like 5 bolas ready

2.Make lots of tranq arrows (100-150 idk) or like 50-30 tranq darts (also depending on the level, you can decide if you want)

3.Get some meat ready (doesn't really matter what tipe exept if its fish,never tame normal creatures with fish)

4.Get some rare flowers

5.Locate a Tapejara and get near it

6.Eat rare flower and get the Tapejara in the trap (with a roof and all possible exits covered so the Tape doesn't leave when the rare flower effect goes away)

7.Knockout,tame, enjoy!

If you play on mobile you should tame a one before unlocking the saddle and put a lystraues next to it I can’t spell it bot it looks like a fat rat dog and pet it it will give your creature Xp trust me it works and then you can level it up

Plan A: slowly approach the back of the Tapejara with the bola already winded up. As soon as you get close enough to throw the bola or it does its scared animation, bola it. Proceed to tranq it out and feed it meat/kibble, and be sure the area is clear. Just like that, you have a tamed Tapejara. (Gillie is optional, it just makes the tapejara less likely to spot you)

Plan B: If you miss the bola or the Tapejara was previously scared away by another creature, don’t sweat it, just follow these steps. Craft 4 wood (or better) Dino gateways and 2 gate doors. Go to a tall natural pillar or rock structure where non flying Dino’s can’t reach. Layer each gate infront of eachother with just enough space inbetween them for your human to fit through. Place a gate door on the front and back gateway. This is a birdcage trap. [Open one of the doors and take a flier to where the Tapejara is. Eat a rare flower next to it and it will agro on your flier. Make it follow you to the trap eating rare flowers along the way to keep its attention. This will also attract other fliers too, so do not do this anywhere near a wyvern or argy spawn. You don’t have to worry about pteranodons because they loose interest very quickly. As soon as you get to the trap, fly directly into it and jump off your flier. The Tapejara will follow it in so close the door behind it. You will now have an aggro’d tapejara and your tamed flier trapped in the bird cage. Dw about the trap or your flier’s health because Tapejara have very weak bites, and as soon as the rare flower wears off, it will stop attacking everything and attempt to fly away. Knock it out, and take your flier out of the trap. Periodically feed and it will be tamed.] With this method you don’t have to worry about babysitting it while it’s knocked out either. The trap is reusable so you can repeat all of the steps in the “[]” to tame another.

To those who can use revival stands, it only takes 9 ancient amber to revive a low level Tapejara! I got mine by making a box around the revival thingy, then after it was revived it was stuck in the box so it was easy to KO and tame it. And it’s a lot easier to kill one and take the tech thingy than it is to take one down and tame it there. It takes a lot of resources, but it’s very worth it because you can get some good Dino’s this way. (I got an Argent using the same tactic
