If you have a Tapi that will not land, drive it towards a mountain. It seems they must be within a certain distance from the ground in order to land. This can be a very long (the first time took me 2 hours), frustrating, and rather dangerous process (bring a parachute), so I only recommend it for a Tapi you REALLY want. Good luck and I hope this helps other solo players!
I had been searching for this guy for a whole week. Finally came across one. Bola, Tranq, unconscious. My last Bola finally worked and I put some spiked walls around this dude bc I was NOT about to loose him. I got bored whilst waited and killed a few raptors for more meat and tamed a pachy. Then flew on my pteranodon to look for a stego for prime meat. Saw one pretty close to my tapejara. Then I saw 3 allos….. went back to my tapejara ready to fight and they came at me. I shot them and killed all 3…but my tapejara didn’t make it. 1 up=1 prayer for my tapejara:(
I was looking for a Tapejara and I have been for the past five days and I came across one. Then all the sudden I look to my right and I see a Alpha Carno charging at me. R.I.P my poor Pterodactyl whom I had just tamed that day. Never got the Tapejara any tips for my terrible luck? 1 like= One prayer for me.
1 full ghillie suit, they can be made from the polymer dropped by penguins
Tranq weapon of choice
20-50 raw meat (preferably with some prime meat too)
About 20 narcotics, just to be safe
I. The easiest way I found to tame them is to look at the spawn map in the Dododex to determine the best area to find one. Anywhere southeast of the green obelisk is a good are for the island map. Once you've found where you want to look, put on your ghillie suit and head over there. IMPORTANT! DO NOT RIDE A MOUNT, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH UNNOTICED
1. Walk around a bit until you find one.
2. Once you've found one, crouch to get closer. Once you start getting very close go prone (you are nearly invisible while prone in a ghillie suit).
3. Once you think you have a good shot throw a bola at it. Don't worry if you miss, it won't notice you unless you get up. If it gets away and doesn't notice you, repeat step 3 (Once it starts flying you still have a chance at hitting it before it gets too far)
4. Once it's stuck on the ground, knock it out. Try to aim for the head to conserve your ammo.
5. Put some meat in its inventory, if you start running out you can hunt in the area to get more. Check up on it every few minutes to give it some narcotics so it stays asleep.
You now have a tapejara, feel free to put a saddle on it and ride it back home. Up if helpful
To tame a Tapejara is actually, pretty easy, first things first, you will need:
-A saddled flying creature
-At least 3 bolas, in case you miss bolas in him(if you are feeling lucky, you can make only one, but I don't recommend it at all)
-Some Rare Flowers
-Club, Bow or crossbow(with tranq arrows, or else you will kill it)
-A lot of Meat(like, 20-40, only to tame eat, you probably will want more as he will get hungry after tamed), or at least 4-7 Prime Meat
-Narcotics(optional, in case of the Tapejara taking too long to tame, good having some as a backup)
How to do it: when you spot the Tapejara, use the rare flowers and make it aggro you. After that, get to land, exit your mount(recommend to put it to Passive, or your Tapejara will get killed), and bola it. After that, shoot/hit it with tour weapon of choice until you knock it out. Give it the food of choice(recommend also protecting it, as it has a low health and can easily be killed by raptors), and wait until tamed. CONGRATULATIONS, Now you have a Tapejara !! Hope this guide helped
To the person that said tapejaras are the only way to solo-tame quetzals, you’re wrong. Argentavis can be utilized by jumping off of it midair, grappling onto the argy and using a parachute and whistling for the argy to target the wild quetzal. Another plus method for ragnarok and mobile players is just to use a griffin, as you can use weaponry whilst riding them.
