I definitely recommend getting this water lion, It is amazing and so good for leveling, It’s taming feature is interesting but easy, You need several fish baskets, You need to find pretty big fish I recommend sabertooth salmon, You catch the fish then I recommend a flyer like an argy, Then find the shadowmane(s) you want, Then separate them from the rest, Then net the with a harpoon launcher, Then you want to build walls around them and run away, Don’t forget to wear ghillie, Then you want to wait for them to break from the net, Then slowly approach behind them, You feed them the fish then you slowly back away and wait for another feed and repeat, Enjoy ur Water Lion(s)!!

I play single player so I don't know if that changes much (besides being unable to pick up wild dinos) but if you want to tame one of these and don't want it to run away I found a useful way. For this to work you will need a net gun (and net), three stone dino gates and two dino doors. First, find the Shadow mane that you want. Try and separate it from others if possible. Once separated, net the shadowmane from above it. Once netted, quickly jump down and place three stone dino gateways and two doors (similar to trapping argys) in a way that doesn't allow the shadowmane to slip through. From there, back away so that you are far enough away from it when it is free of the net. Whalaa~ you now should hopefully have a trapped Shadow mane. From here, the shadowmane shouldn't be able to escape and this allows you to grab as many fish baskets as you need. This trap also allows for the shadowman to sleep and walk around without it running everywhere. Now you can safely approach the shadowmane, feed it, and back away without the shadowmane running off. (Again, I don't know if this work with different settings, I'm still kinda noobish so I play single player easy, but if it does work, yay)

So here’s something helpful I found on catching the fish for a Shadowmane, you can use a wooden cage to stop the fish from moving to easily place it in a basket. Gather fish above 1.5, approach it’s tail or back (NOT the front) as accidentally waking a Shadowmane up without feeding resets taming progress.

6 foundations , 10 double doorframes . 6 hatchframes, 20 walls , 8 ramps and 4 pillars..( all in stone except for ramp and pillar which can be done with wood ) ....best shadowmane trap ever .✌️

Fungal wood can be harvested from the little blue balls where the shadowmanes are (on Fjordur). If you wake them up by walking to fast their taming resets. And use the tracker!

Stay crouched the whole Time I have seen so many people not do this.

If you are trying to tame one, they only sleep at day time. And if you feed them fish that are 2.1 and above they dont loose any levels or efficiency .

Shadowmanes can't knock you of your mount if you're on a deinonychus with their stun/teleport attack(it stuns the deinonychus though)!!! It makes it easy to lure them into a trap(make sure your deinonychus has a Lotta health)

PLEASE lookup Phlinger Phoo’s video about these on YouTube, his trap makes these SO much easier to tame.

So here is my advice to taming these and establishing a base in asguard on fjordur. Use Realm Teleport and go to Asguard East. You’ll spawn on the cliff overlooking the shadow manes and a fungal forest, build a bed and whatever else you’d like at this cliff and either tame a Desmodus or use a zip line to explore the forest and hunt for shadow mane. The short round blue plants give fungal wood for fish traps. An easy way to get fish is at the shallow water in the aberration cave right next to the Monkey boss spawn, the fastest way to get there is teleport to South, South East in realm teleportation. Btw two bonus tips:1 Release the fish and cryo pod it to make it last longer. 2 mammoths get fungal wood and the drum buff protects Dino’s from shadow manes dismount.

You can get corrupted wood for fish baskets by using a hatchet on the corals in the ocean.

For people searching for fungal wood, the underwater mushrooms in the sea give it.

You can get fungal wood from these weird blue plants in the shadowmane forest in Asgard

I find big fish and put a tent on them so they are trapped then place your fish basket down beside it

The type of fish does matter piranha's will give more taming percentage

So last night my I was taming a 145 Shadow and it glitched. Stuck at 80%. It's done this before but I figured out how to fix it. Fly through the gate back to the right side of the map. Then return and voila. Should lay down again. OFC it has to be day.

A trap will consist of 8 fence foundations and 8-16 doorframes (stone)

net gun the shadowmane then finally cirle the shadowmane in the fence foundations and make a wall using doorframes around one layer should work but two helps

Use 1.5 fish or higher to get 100% taming effectiveness

I would only take fisch with min 1.2x and some with higher stat like 1.5x. I had one 2.0x, 4 1.3x and 3 1.2x and i got a 150 lvl with 4x taming speed
