Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a quetzal? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a quetzal.
You will need:
3 dodo arrows (to Argo it on you)
500 biotoxin (if taming without balm) and 100 if using a balm.
4 dinosaur gates
A lot of raw meat
About 100 tranq arrows
First of all, set up 3 dinosaur gates in a square shape.
Now, find your quetzal, and hit it with 1 dodo arrow until it chases you. When it starts to chase you, quickly lead your quetzal to the trap and trap it. As soon as your quetzal is trapped, put the last dinosaur gate right behind the quetzal, to stop it from moving quickly. Now, knock it out.
Very easy to tame if you can get yourself a griffin
While I’ve never managed to tame one personally despite my efforts, I think I have a general idea of how these guys are tamed. The Quetzal taming process is divided into sections called “Stages”. I am doing this to make it easier to understand.
Stage 1: “The Prep Period”
As it’s name suggests, during Stage 1 you will be making preparations for the initial taming procedure. These preparations are no easy feat, so be careful. You will want to do the following:
-Gather biotoxin to keep the Quetzal asleep (ideally with a Spino for melee damage and for luring Cnidaria to shore easily)
-Gather meat (and prime meat, if possible) for the actual taming procedure.
-Ensure you have tranq darts and their respective weapon (Longneck Rifle I think? Correct me if I’m wrong). If you do not
Taming:
Get any level of lymantria (saddle not needed)
Whistle the lil limmy in the air and grapple it
Whistle it aggressive on the quetzal (they don’t do damage, and their moth poison slows the quetzal down significantly)
Tranq out the quetzal
Put spikes round it and give it its kibble mutton or prime
Enjoy your new skybase (level weight stamina and health)
I don’t know why they say it’s hard I killed my (on accident) and then used a reviving platform with a thach structure around it and had it enclosed on top and then Knocked it out and tamed it
Okay so if you see that they spawn near the obelisk don’t get me wrong but that’s not the only place the other place is in the mountain near the redwoods. I have 5 now since that I started doing that. It became so much easier I have 3 griffins, 5 quetzals, 2 mosasaurus, and 1 plesiosaur I used to have 3 gigas but I killed them. Also one last thing, make shocking tranq darts it’s much easier with a griffin.
Just find a quez at red obelisk 🔺
Or at green🟩
Kill It 🗡
Don’t harvest it⛏
Take its implant💠
Have about 25-30 amber🔸
Build an 8’8 box 📦
Revive it 😇
Knock it out 💤
Use Rex kibble or exceptional kibble or prime meat 🥩
Put its saddle on and ride it 🦖
Love it till it dies 🥰=😵
Thanks to the flyer nerf that wildcard spat in our faces with , the chain bola is now useful again , if you have a quetzal already you can slap a ballista on its back , lure the high lvl over land and then boom , chain bola it out of the sky and tame yaself a q worth using
Owning my first Queztal makes life substantially easier in Ark. I use my Queztal for multipurposes like:
1. Transportation for general use.
2. Using as a dropship while extracting a recently tamed dino from a hostile area/ hot zone.
3. Using it as a platform while farming and gathering resources.
4. Using it as a Queztal taming cage to obtain another one.
5. Giving friends rides, or extracts with no flying dinos.
6. Buidling an almost universal structure on its platform helps you if you're short on resources, or at times, lazy like me when I do not feel like producing structures.
7. Best stamina dino while traversing long distances, or taking your kids on a family road- trip on Ark.
8. Almost forgot to mentioned, it is good for construction, especially for high elevated structures. You can also work while flying it,or work on its back.
Overall, the best dino in terms of usefulness, and fun I've ever had. Queztal is love, Queztal is life.
Knock a 150 out w a ascendant slingshot. There some be prestige levels for that.
101 how to tame a quetzal without a quetzal step 1. Get a friend that you ride or pick up with a rape or Argo get beat the quetz then shoot when it's down build a wall around it so no Carlos e.g. can kill it also get a red for meat and take slot of narcotics.
Off to get metal now are where there yet no ok! Are we there yet no!!! Oh wait got land Stam ok are we there yet no flyer nerf is bad!
Although it does spawn in by the red obi..a few also spawn by the blue obilisk as well. One did spawn by the south west part of the snowy or the blue obilisk area
Useless, flyer nerf ruined them! Take a bronto instead
I didn't know this when I first started taming or playing the game but if you knock out the quetzal (or any wild flying type in general) and they fall from a great night they won't take any damage. But it is a good idea to plant spikes in a half circle (if low on resources) you can guard the enter and exit spot to access it's inventory and guard it's sides from other hostile wilds without being right there. Happy taming, yes use kibble!
Best way to take these is to use a club or a frog, bola them use ur frog or club
To solo tame, get a fast argentavis and a scorpion. Then put the scorpion on Aggressive and pick it up with the argy. Find a low level quetz and let the scorpion stab it. After you knock out and tame that quetz make it into a quetzal catcher to get a higher level one.
Just her a friend on a taperjara and fire everithing in. it
If you are thinking of doing the traditional 2 player argy pickup method then this will help you. Instead of a argy use a high level ptera with at least 2k stamina and make sure it's weight is below half while holding the other person. Pteras are way faster and much better. Me and my friend knocked a lvl 25 quetz out within about 60 seconds using this method and tranq darts.
If taming with a two man tapajera team, make sure your tapajera has LOTS of stamina. You will have to speed to follow the quetz around. Make sure to have a good point man too, they will fly through forests and be next to impossible to see without a good eye. And always make sure to bring extra supplies!
